- Ibanez sits down with Norwegian metal legend Ihsahn during his recent tour of Japan. Hear him discuss his use of 7 and 8-string guitars in both live and studio settings and how they challenge him to come up with unique new musical ideas. Be sure to check out his new release 'Eremita' which will be available in June 2012!
Off topic a bit, but the thing I love most about Ihsahn is how genuine he is. Nothing about him strikes me as being theatrical, he isn't posing at all or putting on an air. He seems so comfortable with himself and just being who he is. I remember reading in Lords of Chaos about how he didn't like the posturing in Black Metal, in the sense that if he wanted to smile, he would smile, etc. It raises his music higher in my mind, because everything from him is REAL.
He never ceases to evolve.
THANK YOU!!! you explained that so well.. He could throw his guitar away and start playing the flute for all i care and id still respect the guy.. He has created to many masterpieces. People rip on his new stuff cause its not black metal.. but its still good and i can respect the talent and hear how well hes gotten at mastering the guitar.
People rip on his new stuff, because most of the BM pack are common idiots. They invade all forms of subjects. Dont worry. Its a choice between (at least) appreciating and listening vs festering in your own shit and misery. The situation could be worse. He could be dead or just dropped off the face of the music world completely. People wanna sh*t while they have em, but soon understand a void takes his place, they stand in the middle of it and think of him. MFrs need to grow up.
This guy is the reason, or at least the main reason), I have upgraded to 8 string.
The Barren Lands, from his album, After.
ihsahn rules. one of the bast damn musicians ever to swing an axe and shred some metal.
Pure awesome
song playing in the background?
Can you imagine him chankin' away with the Bosstones or Reel big fish? Lol on an 8 string no less?
Fredrik & Marten maybe influential, but Ihsahn will always be main reason why I converted to 8-string guitar.
the music is loud as fuck and then you can barely hear the guy talking...
The smile at the end is gold.. This man wrote some of the most dark music ive ever heard.. He really like his guitars
Yep, ironically "true" black metal fans are the biggest posers, if you ask me. I mean I can understand if a 14 year old kid is into the whole "true kvlt" shit, most people are not particularly bright at this age, but 20+ year olds? Come on.
And yeah, Ihsahn is a damn good composer, it would've been a huge shame if he never moved beyond the level of old Emperor demos. Ihsahn is one of the very few musicians in the metal genre who's being clever and creative with his music.
Dissection is really good, I'm actually quite a fan of Reinkaos, even though many "fans" hate on it.
Seriously. That is the funniest part about most Black Metal. All this talk about evil and darkness and being "true". The majority of it is theatrical bullshit, it's all posturing. People rip on Emperor and Ihsahn for "selling out", when in reality all he has ever been is true, not to our expectations or constructs, but to himself. That is worthy of respect.
Dissection was Jon lol and no one can replace him.
This man is the sole reason why my writing has changed for the better and why I play 7 and 8 strings. Thank you Ihsahn
The 12th fret inlay looks like the one on Rob Arnold from Chimaira's ESP.
Ihsahn is my favorite composer of all time.
Tuska Open Air Metal Festival ;)
Ihsahn is the shit
Try Dissection.
1:28 Caption: "Elise Farts".....Wow.
He looks like s schlager star :) I must say he's stylish.
You just didn't capitalize a genre. Please tell me it isn't true.
Never realized that Ihsahn sounded exactly like Skwissgar.
I absolutely adore the way he says "sharp" :D
Brutal. Ihsahn parece ser buen tipo.
Makes perfect sense to me.
Rob Chapman?
Meh, I know all about Mayhem, Dead, and Euronymous. Varg and Oystein had a tiff, someone got stabbed, not really anything impressive. And Dead needed psychological care. None of that impresses me in regards to the genre being "dark" or "evil". The only band that has ever convinced me of any sort of genuine darkness or malevolence is Deathspell Omega, that band is fucking spooky.
He even admits to that. I saw an interview with him some time back where he admits to being an Atheist and that whole Satanist thing was pretty dumb
I don't think you understood the interview or know what Satanism is.
You just didn't attempt to break my balls by nit picking minutiae, please tell me it isn't true.
