Sandra, when stitching with a thicker thread than standard serger thread (Tex 27 or Tex 30), it is recommended to use a larger needle such as a #90/14. This is especially helpful when using decorative threads, such as Fantastico, through the needle.
+Karen Derbes The foam bases are included with the Baby Lock Ovation. An alternate method is to get a small paper cup, poke a hole in the bottom so the guide pin from the serger can fit inside the cup and spool of thread. This allows the thread to unwind without jumping around.

I used a piece of left over foam from sewing a bag. I cut a circle like a coaster and made a central hole for the spindle.
What brand of thread is that? I've been looking for larger cones and cant find any.
