The absolute best video I’ve ever watched even with the length it was the most informative detailed video ever. Awesome job sir really appreciate your time
Wow, thanks!
Hey "Big Boy"...just finished watching this video over 3 sessions. The U.S. English option and changing the assistant's voice (1 hour 25 minutes) BLEW MY MIND. I already had continued voice, but the option of different accents is wonderful.
This works in Australia and worked immediately. Thank you Brian.
Oh you know that trick works for more than accents hey? You'll get more features too!
@@AutomateYourLife I look forward to rediscovering Google Home all over again.
Brian, this was a great video, dude. I really enjoyed the format 👍🏻
Oh very glad!😃
Nice and great review for the Google Nest Hub.👍
Thanks Lany! 👍
Wow, this is a hell of a resource! You should get some kind of medal!
Thank you so much :) I hope they are giving out medals soon!
Great video to set up my new nest, thanks.
Glad to help!
You put a lot of hard work into video for google hub gen 2 well done brian
Thanks Fred! Tons of work, but I'm glad it's working for folks like you!
This video is extremely informative - thanks for taking the time putting it together. I'm transitioning from Alexa and this video is very helpful
Thanks Gary! Good luck with the move across!
I have a new home renovation and I will use this platform for it. I hope to do a few more home renovations and add other home automation platforms. The detail in this video is great.
Best of luck!
I just bought a Google Nest Hub over Black Friday and this really helped when setting it up. I just wish it had more clock face choices
Glad it helped!
Loving the Mass Effect Easter Egg!
Love that shirt...I wear it whenever I can!
Please make an updated version of this! Cheers
Thank you very much!
You're welcome!
Thanks Brian. Wow, long video.
You bet! Thank you sir.
wow.. 3 hours to setup the Nest Hub? Thank you but I don't think I have 3 hours but this is so complete. Thank you so much for putting this up.
Just use the timecodes for what you need!😃
It's not just about the Nest Hub, but also a comprehensive instructional for the Google Home app. If you live in or outside of the U.S.A., check out 1 hour 25 minutes 38 seconds for access to different accents for all your Google smart speakers.
You don't need 3 hours to set it up. You can have it set-up with the basics within 15 minutes or so. Most of the stuff you already have set-up on your home app, as automations, devices and permissions, will automatically reflect on your Nest Hub provided you use the same account and network to connect.
Great but lengthy video. Need to come back to finish watching it. Just recently all my Chromecast and Home Mini stopped working on my guest wifi. Will this work on guest wifi?
Yeah! The idea is you come back when you need it Erik.
They should all work on Guest WiFi, but I've noticed both Amazon and Google speakers of late requesting to be on base WiFi networks. Not sure what's going on there yet.
😍😍😍 amazing video
Thanks 🤗
Hi Brian !
I really like your videos.
Your videos very kind and followable.
Just keep going. :)
I'm before a decision. Help me!
Nest Hub 2nd gen or Nest Hub max?
My favorite the Nest Hub Max because of the camera.
Could you have information the Nest Hub Max 2nd gen is also nearly appear? Or a compare test video?
I want the new features, except the sleep sensoring.
Have a nice!
Nest Hub Max! Every single time. I don't believe we'll have a new one this year, but May 18th is a possible announcement date for lots of devices, so maybe wait till then and then watch our videos about that event!
Wow Brian, a full setup video! Well done. You put so much work into this!
Thanks a ton sir :)
This was fantastic to check if I didn't know anything. Thank you!
EDIT: Loads I didn't know. Lol.
One thing I'd like to see is being able to view a timer set on one display on another display. Very useful when cooking.
I'd like to be able to see that too! Haven't seen that just yet Ian, but I'm glad you got a lot out of this video!
What's the best in this video is your t-shirt commander!
😃😃😃
Hi there. Great video.... Do you know why I don't get the Sleep Sensing under settings on the 2nd generation nest hub?
No, that's odd! It should be there, but maybe if you didn't accept some of the personal results settings?
I'm having the same issue. Is it possible to do sleep sensing on two different hubs at the same time? I'm trying to set up a second hub and not getting the sleep option.
Phenomenal video. Can't believe it's free! I'm hoping you can answer a question that will save me hours of pain learning to configuring homebridge to connect their thermostat to homekit. My parents have the nest thermostat (the pricier model) and want to be able to turn off the air conditioning when they leave the house. The thermostat is in their closet and they use nest temperature sensors in the rest of the house. The caveat is that they are iPhone users. If they install the Google home app on their iPhones can the nest hub use their phone's location to surmise their presence or absence to control the thermostat? Thank you in advance.
Yeah it'll work within the Google Home app if they allow location and Bluetooth as a permission. I think that's all the permissions they'd need. They have to turn on that feature in the Nest app if they still have a Nest account and I believe the Google Home app if they've moved over.
This is a great resource for anyone wanting to get the most out of their Google Home setup. Google doesn't advertise how to setup a lot of the extra features outside of just the basic setup, leaving one searching for the way to do it. I wonder if this is be design so more people will "Google" how to use the Google/Nest Home features, thus bringing in ad revenue from the Google search engine.
Thank you Brendan! I'm gonna send it to the Googlers to see if they want to use it for some of their support pages. Let's see! ;)
You are correct. Even echo has books you can buy for their device. Google help is full of one-liners. If you need to find info on out of the box settings good luck. Brian should write and sell a google nest how to book on Amazon Books. I bet it would be a hit.

Thank you! Cheers!
Hey man, what are you using to project your phone and device on screen in the video? Love, love this format! Thanks!
I believe I cast my phone screen onto the hub
Awesome videos sorry I’m sooo late
You're never late Thomas! It's when you need it. :)
I watched it all, Brian. At 2x speed. :) Now let's see Paul do 3 hours!
Ohhhh, you're so good to me Dave!
PS. If Paul did 3 hours...I feel like he'd be some kinda tired. That guy's high energy and I was beat!
This was the video I was looking for! (All inclusive) 24:48 is specifically what I wanted, but it doesn't work for me. Banner notifications is on 'HIDE' but calendar events and reminders still show on screen. What else could it be?
long hold on anything on your dashboard and you may/should get a dismiss option
Thank you for this. I know this is an old video and you seem very smart. I am looking for smart home devices that dont require you to be connected to the manufactures servers for it to work. Only via my local lan/wifi. Are there any manufactures that make smart home devices like this? Wall plug/light sockets and so forth. I have the sonoff but it requires always online to work. If i loose my internet connection then it wont work. I am very bad at soldering so modifations will be messy for me
I think you should start to look at Hubitat as a smart home hub. Just about anything you connect to that hub will be locally controlled, so don't require internet. Some require WiFi, but that's usually more reliable than internet. :)
SmartThings is another hub you can look at for local control, but they're just getting that part of their system setup and it still requires internet to work sometimes.
No soldering needed for most stuff that goes into those hubs!
This is great, I just wish it was an Echo instead because I don’t use Google for my smart home :( maybe in the future you can do the same thing for the amazon ecosystem? Would be awesome
I will 100%! That's in the plans!
Tip for those people who don't live in the USA: not everything he says is possible in your countries.
But there is a trick that makes this possible!
Set your default language to US English and your 2nd language to your own language.
Menu is now in English but it listens to your own language and also answers in your language.
It is also not possible to choose a radio station in other countries, there is a trick for that too.
Just create a Routine, which acts like a shortcut.
Create new routine-starter (voice command) eg Radio 0 - choose what the routine should do - choose media play and control - choose radio - and enter the frequency in the transmitter eg 101.2 fm.
And finished.
Now you can start your favorite channel with a simple command.
Good tips and thanks! That first trick is exactly how I do it too since I'm in Canada!
Hi Brian, any idea how we get Ring Doorbell to speak to Google/Nest home hub? I guess there isnt any with it being an Amazon product, but wanted to ask the expert!
At this point you really can't! Nice of you to call me the expert, but I'll just take being part of the team!
@@AutomateYourLife Thought not, thanks. That'll teach me for buying a non google product. Everything else is google related. (home hub, nest mini, pixel phone, nest cameras, chromebook, chromecast and even nest smoke alarm! lol
hello man, u are incredible with this video, google should be grateful... u convinced me to buy this...work great, but, maybe i missed something, i cannot start a routine from another location with my voice, only play it from app. is that how it works ?!? thanks very much.
Hey there Daniel, you should be able to start routines anywhere. Right now there does seem to be an issue with some folks not able to start routines at all with their voice on phones/Google Assistant
Well Brian love the new google hub 2 gen
I will say, I do love that sleep tracking feature.
Since the Nest hub and max have CHIP/thread, how can you directly connect them to the hub? Specifically I would like to connect some open/close contact sensors directly to the Nest Hub Max can I do that without another hub and how?
Sadly you can't do that yet. Google's said they're holding off that until Matter is ready to go (new name for CHIP). So now that's 2022...at least.
Great video.... but I'm having a heck of a time removing "cards" and re-arranging the tiles on "my morning" and "afternoon". I do the long hold, and only option is to open, not dismiss. How can I rearrange these pages?
If it's not giving you the option, you can't remove it. Over time though, there will be things that will show up and you can reorganize a bit.
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks 👍
How do you customise the ‘your morning’ or ‘your afternoon’ pages? The example display on the box of the nest hub doesn’t seem possible in reality.
You can't directly customize it. Do things in the morning and in the afternoon and they will naturally show up there
Any good ideas for smart monitoring water tanks?
Check out Sinope :)
Can I use the nest hub to drive the chromecast thats plugged in to my TV? Say if i wanted to operate my chromecast to play netflix or youtube or whatever on my TV without having to use my phone
Yep!

oh I did a really good breakdown here: ruclips.net/video/dru1qHXIjGs/видео.html

Hey do you by any chance know why my phone doesn't show up in this 1:29:34 section like it does for you?
Sorry, it's just getting a bit old now. Might have to remake a few sections.
Wi-Fi a little bit overloaded was that comment pointed at someone says( Mike and Patti cakes) the Easter Bunny did a really nice job on the green screen did he take his ears down or did he paint his ears green. Happy Easter.. you've done a super job on that but I'm not going to watch 3 hours 9 minute I may have to make sure three shots this. Miss A is having a fit. She thinks she's getting replaced! LOL not likely but Google is getting better
ahhahahahaa, not pointed at you sir!!! Nor Miss Patti Cakes :)
@@AutomateYourLife I think I have about as much as you can possibly put on an internet system. LOL sometimes I think when everything comes on at one time I pulled the whole town into the condo
When connected to my tv, will it be able to turn it on and off?
Not on its own. You'll need something like a Google Chromecast or Android TV box that allows voice control
is there not anyway to watch or look thru your RUclips favorites on the nest hub? That's crazy! I just connected mine and I was trying to see about syncing all my favorites for you tube on the nest and no luck This is pretty limiting.
Sadly, the answer is no... :(
@@AutomateYourLife wow that is crazy. This thing is pretty useless for my use. Do you know ever they ever intend to incorporate that kind of feature that should be already there?
🤷🤷
Hi I know this is an old video but i just bought the nest hub 2nd gen and I'm not seeing any of my smart devices at all. In this video, you refer to using iHeart radio, how? I have been trying and boggling how, to no avail.... when i ask it to play iHeart radio, it pulls up the Google search and brings up the sites to download? Please advise!
Sometimes Google brings in and removes services. If it's not working for you now, it might not be available in your country or might not be available any longer. You could maybe check in the app to see if it's listed in the music services settings and if it is it should work. Otherwise........

I got it from someone who worked at bioware during initial development!
Can you access google drive and play mp3 from there?
Nope. Not that I've found. You could use Bluetooth to pipe it through from another source though

How do I turn off voice reader?
Not sure what that feature is exactly. :) Is it accessibility? Those are on the device settings if you swipe up
I want to know the steps in setting up the nest hub to make voice calls! When I tell google to call my phone number, it says it needs help with personal assistance results. Then it tells me go to settings to make the changes. I've tried on both the Hub and my phone.
I want the stupid nest hub to be able to call my phone. This is TWO DIFFERENT google accounts! My son's google account is what's on the Nest Hub. So I've tried going to Google HOME on my phone, then go to assistant settings and looking for the nest hub. I can't find either the hub or the google account I'm trying to connect with. I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me step by step how to do this. Not sure why I'm getting this message from google nest hub when I ask it to call my number?! Oh, I can initiate a duo call TO the nest hub from my phone, BUT a duo or meet call can NOT be initiated FROM the nest hub.
Personal results is part of the Google Assistant settings. You can go into settings in the app, and you can search for personal results and you'll find it.
In order to make phone calls, certain permissions have to be granted. This video has a section on personal results and once you do that, you'll find the phone call setup goes fine.
This video also has a setting on family and how to manage it for others too
@@AutomateYourLife This would have to be done from the nest hub I'm guessing? However, I can't find "HOME" in the settings on the nest hub and so this must be done on my phone which doesn't make any sense either since it's two different accounts. I'm really pissed off with this and now have to set through a 3 hour video trying to find this. Not your fault, you made a great video, I'm just pissed off as I've now spent several hours trying to figure this out. The idea of three more hours doesn't appeal to me.
Looking in the nest hub, I can not find anything that's close to what I'm seeing in the video. It's like a huge portion of the settings is missing in the nest hub. I will just throw it away and get him a tablet.
No settings in the Google home app
Almost everything for the hub is managed in the Google home app
I only have the hub.not other devices
What android phone do I need to set up my nest hub
