It’s times like that you really see what you’re made of. To not quit when everything in you wants to is some pretty badass sh*t! Well done both of you.
I finished running a half marathon after an asthma attack through sheer bloody mindedness ,well done for not quitting ,another experience to draw on for life and competition ,I wish you all the best
Its really showing confidence and strenght to show the weakness and Bad mood on the bike while racing Often u get to see only shiny moments an commentary. Thx for that it will encourage more people to go for their goals even if they hurt
Can I say how proud you should be supporting those with mental health issues, one of my colleagues who I worked with took his own life , which was hard to understand. We never know the pain that someone can be in until it’s too late. My own battle seems relentless with anxiety and depression and I feel for those who feel they have no other option but to choose death as it takes away all the pain.
Nice to see Manon from GCN giving you smiles at 6:45 😁
Juliet - Good effort. The mind can tryuly be a tricky ol' bastard, way to overcome those doubts.
Amy - fair play to you, getting your fitness back. Your presence in J's videos is always a nice upgrade
I remember passing you, riding solo also, said ‘hey’ you said ‘alright’..just! 😄 Tough one though for sure, relentless racing. Next year, faster stronger and more prepared I think! 👍
Love how you pushed thru and finished the race. You're amazing, Juliet. Love your channel. Keep the great work!
Thank you so much!
It’s funny I thought I saw you (JE) in the GCN vid for “Manon’s First Gravel Race” & then you have her (Manon) in a few frames of your vid 😅. Way to stay in it even though the mind didn’t 👍🏼
I watched you first and I thought it was Manon from GCN but then I thought ….no……right???? Glad to have the birdseye view! Keep the videos coming 😏
Exactly what I saw! 🤣👍
According to the results page you were 4th in your age group, only 20 seconds off third (and winning the sprint with the 5th placed rider at the end). So despite how it felt, and despite the course, that's a good result, congrats. :)
Plus you beat Manon Lloyd, so this vlog > GCN. :)
Yeah i mentioned on my Instagram post that I got a bit confused about who was in my category and that impacted my decision on how hard to keep pushing.
I don’t think I did beat her, she was at the finish line when I got there!
@@JulietElliottsChannel It wasn't clear on the video how the start worked - were there other groups that started before you?
@@JulietElliottsChannel You did beat her about two minutes. Her age group started 6 Minutes ahead of yours, so she was at the finish 4 minutes ahead of you.
You actually cameoed in GCN’s video of the race if you haven’t seen it yet.
@@scottwatson7844 how many minutes in please does she appear. I couldn't see her
Nice to see that you are in fact human, I enjoyed this side of you. Keep doing your best and having fun too. Racing is not your usual fun ride with cake in the middle. : ). I am remembering my first (and only) mountain bike race, starting uphill and feeling like throwing up while my heart is beating out of my chest. Then on the downhill people crashing left and right. At least I finished the race and was proud of myself. Fun times (in hindsight only).
Congratulations on your finish! A sufferfest like that is a learning experience at the very least. So very worthwhile in the end. And congrats to Amy on her effort as well!
Nearly gave up on the Dartmoor Classic one year when I reached the rest point because it was wet, cold and felt crap, but I felt so good when I ploughed on and finished back in Newton Abbot.
Good work!
Good job, ladies! 🙌🏻 Hope you’re having a lovely time at the cottage! 😊
Great job challenging yourself and pushing through it! Appreciate both of you enjoying and sharing the sport. Makes me want to ride even more. Thanks!
Congratulations, that looked like a really tough race. I'm glad you pushed on to the finish. And you came in ahead or Manon Loyd from the GCN RUclips channel. You should take this result as a personal victory!
I really enjoyed your in-race coverage! You should do more of this.
Thanks
Gotta say I've been following your adventures for about a year now and even though I just do mountain biking I still really enjoy all your different bike vids, gravel, road, MTB and adventures with all your freinds. Even if I don't get out a particular weekend watching your vids feels like I've been along for the ride. Weird I know. I've had some tough times the last 12 months all the covid shit and lost my mom last year to it too. But nice to come along on your ride adventures as an escape from the norm so to speak. Keep up the great work keeping everything bikes and the superb vids too. A big fan
Jase.
sorry to hear about your mum, that's tough. Thanks so much
So funny seeing myself in your video! Great meeting and chatting with you and Amy during the warm up. Yep, it was a tough one and I ate more dust than gels.! Until next time.
Super well done to you and Amy!! Never have I been so thoroughly entertained by your video of you not placing well in a race. What an epic video! Well done!!
Can we talk about Amy's mum's garden!! It is so gorgeous and so English cottage quaint.
You are super strong Juliet. That you could dig down and get your body to do it is really good. So many people (like me) could not no matter how badly they wanted to!
Very well done for toughing it out, a physically and mentally hard race. Enjoy a nice bit of rest, relaxation wine and a cake or two.😋
Well done guys!!!, racing around Suffolk is hard work, we're used to all the sand, dust and pace. Because we have no real hills we're all riding like we doing TT's the whole time lol. Flat out heart in throat efforts.
It was really nice to meet you just after you had finished, it was a tough full on pedal start to finish for sure, fun for me on a MTB as I could overtake/undertake in the corners :-) 100% needed to be in a pack though
Well done for carrying on it takes strong mental strength to do that for anyone 👍
Thank you
Yeah I had to pull 3 miles into the last lap couldn't shift a cramp gutted but enjoyed the buzz of been there thanks for the coverage ju x
Looks like you and Manon from the GCN channel were very close to one another during the race. Congrats on the finish!
well done for finishing
Thank you for expressing and explaining the highs and lows of your cycling. I feel it gives your audience a more invested connection. Also it enhances your authenticity in a medium of ‘perfection’. Thank you.
Great job! Super glad you finished the race.
That is called having a competitive spirit. Well done.
Just saw you on the gcn video, man you definitely gave it your all , well done.
Will have to watch it!
Bloody Fair Play Juliet n Amie Woop 🙌 woop 🙌
Fantastic ( Bostin). Loved this tent cycling cottage where was the cake 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍
Great vlog 👍👍😎
Well done to finish! Good practice for next year!
You gave your very best, nothing to worry about really ! Excellent effort, not only completed the race but hung in there until the very end 😃 And Amy too, hope she's up for some recovery adventure with them bikes just because I know the more you ride the more you want to ride whatever the purpose or conditions 🌝
Great video 🤙🏼 well done for completing it 👊🏼
when that dog started barking it set mine off too!!
Brava for hanging in there until the end 👏👍
that wine and curry was well earned! :) congrats on finishing!
Well done for carrying on when you really really wanted to stop. I should have been there with a few others from St.Neots CC-some racing, some doing the Fondo-but we are all male, and all over 65 so not in your bracket. I didn’t make it having broken my hip 9 weeks previously……there’s always next year…….
Well done you, for keeping going. My first race for a very long time as I said, next year I focus on winter so I will faster 😊 for 2022 Gravel races 😎 I have a few routes in the New forests, could get Stu out on his bike.
What a crazy start Juliet. Great race though hope you enjoyed it.
My last lap was about survival too 😖 Interesting your comment about ave HR.....mine was mega high for the whole thing as well. Glad we missed the rain on the course though huh 👊
amazing effort , most people would have jacked it in on throwing up. well earned rest deserved, lovely garden , you make the Vlogs so enjoyable
Amy is so cute and you two are great fun. Lovely video Juliet you are awesome
Aw thanks Michael
Wow, very well done. I kept shouting at you "Stop talking" LOL. Treading grass is never easy, enjoy the wine!
Congrats on a great effort Juliet, you showed great spirit, pushed through and didn't give up. Give yourself a pat on the back, you're inspiring. PS love the MX shirt. Do you ride?
Thank you!
Yeah, used to ride MX. Getting my full bike license next month, whoop!
@@JulietElliottsChannel Brilliant! I used to race moto and then switched to mountain biking. Good luck with your licence 👍.
Well done! It was indeed a hard race - glad I wasn’t the only one feeling it.
It was a ridiculously hard race, massive kudos for finishing in one piece!
Got some raw footage of a complete lap if anyone else wants to check out the course/pace (feat lots of heavy breathing 😂)
Love how competitive you are! Well done :D
Amazing effort ladies, well done!
Absolutely feel your pain. I think that sustained effort was one of the hardest i’ve ever done 😂
Family, friend, Mom time sounds refreshing! 😄
Well done for keeping going and to finish it! If I knew I could have spectated, I would have popped down. (You were very close to where I live) Yes, it is very flat here and I hate the sand too!
Well done to Amy also. Did she still get something for taking part?
Hope you come back to this part of England.
Moorrrning to you Juliet! Love your videos... and friends! I know what you did at Minute 7 (:-P). Take care girl ! Keep riding and posting!
Thetford Forrest? My wife and I would do our weekly long hikes out there. It’s Halloween in Doha Qatar and I’m catching up on your videos between visits from the trick or treaters. Keep the videos coming.
You know what they say,Be afraid and do it anyway !!
Cheers to both of you !! 🍻
❤️🧡💛💚💙
The joys of flatland racing. Its brutal
Biking... high heart rates, (Cameo from Manon in GCN) and curry... sounds pretty awesome!
mooooooornin! you took part in BBB? nice one - you're finally into continental events! keep your positivity! :)
Those look like fun trails!
Watching this made me think that I recognised Amy from from somewhere but couldn't place it. Then it struck me I shared a house in Wales with her at uni. Small world, hope all is well. Cool vid.
Don’t beat yourself up, it was a super hard race and I felt the same. Only so long you can wait for it to let up, only to realise it isn’t going to until the finish. Passed you at some point, and I I could manage way to Meow at you. Not the most original I’m sure but I was dying.
Recognized you from the GCN vid! Great race!
Think Dorie!!! Just keep swimming, swimming pedaling, pedaling......🙂
Watched GCN then this. Wondered if you beat Manon but I think I saw her already done at the end. Well done
If you think you had a bad day I was planning to go out on my MTB but alas my nice new rear tubeless Racing Ralph tyre is flat and making a nasty hissing noise when I inflate it so looks like tyre repairs rather than a ride! Well done all the same - treat it as a hard training session:)
Very inspiring-need to get back on the bike :)
Way to push through!
Well done Julles
Excellent job ladies
Oh I missed you damn I rode the ride on nelly event 100 miler was awesome
Good race for sure.
Even though you didn't win, I think that you are just lovely
Loved the video and honest appraisal of the race. Well done on a great result and hanging on in there. Do you think you went out too quick? How did your lap times compare?
Respect for pushing on through the pain and finishing! I would have hated that course - no hills or anything remotely techy, just flat out power. Not great for a National Gravel Champs IMO.
Cool event, nice GCN crossover at the end of the race there 🤣🤣
Always finish!
Manon and Alex from GCN! Ha ha! I watch too many of these videos.
Great Juliett. Did I saw Manon behind the Goals in the red Trikot?
I spy Manon Lloyd from GCN @ 7:01!
Lol, reminded me of every one of my gravel races this year😂
I wonder how much it will change now the UCI announced today that it will organise gravel championships in the future.
Looks like a blast!
Probably not much as the UCI Gravel championship is being organised by the same people who did this race (Golazo) who are the same people who organise the Tour of Cambridgeshire.
Manon from @GCN was there too.
a luxury yurt? i didnt know there was such a thing haha
Well done, both! Cameo by Manon and Alex of GCN. lol
Echoed your thoughts/feelings on the Fred Whitton on Sunday - See you there next year Juliet? ;-)
That darn giant reduction valve, the conscious mind, does seem to hold one back a lot. It’s funny, that when you tell it to shut up while you take a snapshot of how your body is actually doing, you find the latter is soldiering on seemingly without a care in the world, while you’ve been busy mentally arm wrestling your mental self. I read somewhere that the conscious mind is just an image projected by our unconscious mind, which is of course doing the massive work of keeping us alive (breathing, pumping blood, absorbing Clif Bars and so on). Somewhere, the Great Designer must be having quite a lot of fun watching all this drama.
Imagine a southwest gravel champs course you would kill it
Seen you collapsed in the background of Manon GCN's video... well done!
Made it onto your vid 😂. Well done for keeping going.
You can, you are. Absolutely 💯 true.
Importantly, how was the wine & curry?
Bloody lovely. Then we watched Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Top evening
@@JulietElliottsChannel wonderful. All is good in the world then.
16th and you beat GCN's Manon Lloyd...that's not bad !
How did you manage to miss the completely crazy bank of rain that seemed to sit over that part of Suffolk all that day ? Because yes it absolutely did chuck it down when it got going 🙂
I drove through it on the way to the cottage after the race. Biblical!
feel your pain sister.
You got to race Your fellow country mate, Pro Triathlete Ruth Astle, who won! That is pretty awesome! Slainte!
Whilst it's great that the organisers are having a go at creating a British champs I don't know that course / event is right for it...looked like a course for the watt-monsters (think it was a couple of til-athletes that won?), I reckon a gravel champs needs to be longer and more technical for sure...
First I’ve heard of the British Gravel Championships is there a series that leads up to this?
Maybe not but you'd think there would be.
No, it’s not really an official championship. It’s a UCI granfondo.
Fair play, isn’t it such a shit feeling when you just want to drop out! You smashed it though and that’s a hell of an effort keeping that heart rate for so long! 😳 you’re a beast 💪🏼
Thank you!
Good effort, whare did you come in the race🏁👍
Great job on a very tough event. Good on you finishing! On a slightly different point and one you may have covered...Why don't you wear gloves? I hate them also by the way
