This film was originally much longer. There were incredible scenes featuring some of the greatest names in the Rabbinical world who shared some of the greatest Divrei Torah and Chizuk about the importance of doing everything possible to free Agunot. And at the last minute, these Rabbanim backed out because they were uncomfortable with how it could affect their public perception.
I look around me and I feel so lucky to be part of such a great community with some of the most amazing, earnest, and hard-working members and organizations. But I can't shake this feeling that our leadership is failing us. Imagine if there was an Agunah Asifa like the Internet Asifa, where Rabbanim of all walks of life had an urgent meeting to establish Halachic precedent and protocols to free Agunot. Will that day ever come?
The rabbinical statements in this video will go a long way but we need more. Our sisters in chains can not wait another day.

They are not "agunahs" it is a misappropriation of the word.

Though the rabbis accepted one witness to prevent agunah that is because a woman is expected to thoroughly search out the matter before she remarries, and because she did not do so in this instance, she is penalized. Mishnah Yevamot 10.
SEARCH OUT THE MATTER meaning that she has to want him and ask around to make sure he is not alive.
1:49 It's a little dishonest because it's not always about money; him saying that makes men sound greedy. People also do it because of kids. Once the man gives a gett, he has no leverage with regards to his ex to get custody of his kids and to raise them with the religious standard he values. He can go to court, but that will cost between five hundred thousand to two million. I am not saying it's morally right to use a gett as leverage, but I can sympathize with a man who hasn't seen his kids in 4 years. The tears of a man who cries at night because he hasn't seen his kids are not less important than that of a woman who cries because she wants a gett. I believe both tears are equally valid and heartbreaking.

I feel like not personally trying to track down her "claimed get" makes poor reporting. While my heart bleeds for any aguna, we have a responsibility to check I to this before sharing.

@@newportmesa8864 good question. Its like a jewish divorce...cant remarry without getting divorced.... God gave people free will and the ability to choose to do good or bad. I believe most people are good, but this guy is definately a rare outlier.
