@@BARelement But at 10.0 the main threat is APFSDS, which means Object 292 is better at tanking hits from other tanks and even at destroying them with its 152mm gun, while T-80B is better to withstand HEAT and ATGMs but worst at facing other tanks, not ideal.
The structural steel was meant to simulate the weight of the intended added composite, or rather a new turret with better protection (which was never added to the Object 292). It’s not meant to protect the Object 292. Only to simulate weight.
That counterweights to see how the T-80U turret would peform with the 152mm gun they choose the T-80B turret and just simulated the extra armor weight of the T-80U
the stack of structural steel on the roof does make it kind of immune to tow2b funnily enough more effective than actual era on a t80 roof for some reason

But Kontact 1 is useless against APFSDS, Object 292 cheeks have 40 mm more KE protection than T-80B with Kontact 1 which is more usefull over 10.0 BR

Those plates are used for imitating the weight on that T-80 turret because the ERA is gone, therefore they added those steel blocks
