    Tom,
Do LCD, plasma, or tube TV's contain harmful gases/chemicals that we should worry about when taking them apart? I want to tear some apart but I heard they can contain mercury.

Mercury was stopped being used in household consumer electronics around 1991. You can look up all of the parts for each TV through the manufacturers websites.

Smart TVs don't have all the radioactive crap that will hurt you like the CRTs will the metals can be recycled the plastics can go in your plastic recycle bin at home for to be picked up on trash day in your recycle bin. All the electronics boards cords and everything else is yours to sort to take to your local recycle yard and steel I actually found a local yard in my town that actually pays 15 cents per pound for any type of broadcast screen computers plasmas LCDs RCT CRTs. And tried to give it in like that I didn't take anything out of it I just took it apart. You had the back side with the LEDs in it backlight lamps and the bored part of it it's actually comes in three pieces you got your back and then you have your peace with the LEDs in it and then you have a metal type of there's a board that holds all the electronic stuff and then you have separation of screens the HV screens are super cool to hold on to and I really need for a variety of reasons that you can find examples on RUclips by other creators if you're into doing that kind of stuff . Designed to keep it from I guess shattering into a billion pieces so if you crack it you can safely fold it up and throw it in the bin with no problem. What's cool about scrapping is inside these electronics and other gizmos that make things work in our everyday lives can be used and repurposed for other things to make our lives easier better or even cheaper some of the creators miss that and buy things to make their gizmos work. So next time you scrap a microwave or any type of motor or anything that spins or lights up think about the holiday seasons coming up and what affects you could create hold on to a few and take the rest of the yard😅😅😂

Most of my scrap is the by product of my ewaste. If you're going to show ewaste scrap you might think about a basic pc

As I believ I had mentioned in our ewaste podcast you should not open up those screens under any circumstance. LCD ones are full of mercury gas and should go to a proper recycler. Plasma and LED do not and don't waste your time taking those ones apart, right into light iron those go. most flatscreens really arent worth your time especially newer ones as the boards are smaller and contain less precious metals.

Mercury was outlawed in 1991 for TV production and manufacturing.
