He stood up to Dooku, Grievous, Maul, and Vader, and was integral in kicking Grand Admiral Thrawn (who at the time was also directly assisting Palpatine in his own investigation) off of the planet Lothal. The benefits of being a fast talking funny man like Hondo is that no one who's capable of it actually takes you serious enough to enact revenge. And they only learn to take you seriously once you've already gained the upper hand.
Your profile picture be giving me flashbacks. Force Unleashed is my childhood. It is the first game I have played before being introduced to other games, and now it's been over 9 years. Galen's story should have ended in Force Unleashed 1 or there should have been Force Unleashed 3 that would tie everything up.
@@goldedrag111 Most of Legends is Canon to me with bits of Canon added in like Clone Wars, Mandalorian, and Rebels which doesn't ruin the old Canon though I do avoid arcs and episodes in those shows because some of them mess up the old Canon like Grievous and Death Troopers.
Jim Cummings just brought such a charisma to the character. I really loved all of his moments, and it didn't hurt that as a kid I recognized the voice of both Tigger and Thanos playing him.
Hondo is that character who Lucas should have made Jar Jar to be in the Prequels and even in the Clone Wars. Hilarious. Ahmed Best and BJ Hughes did a great Jar Jar yet the character is annoying in both the Preqels and Clone Wars and I don't even know why Filoni would make episodes of him when he could have shown more character arcs. Whatever scene Hondo is in, I always burst out in laughter, receiving extremely odd looks from my family.
I will never see how Jar Jar is annoying. His slapstick humor was overdone perhaps, but the "goofy sidekick" was a popular trope in the 90s, and I guess it never bothered me that much. Besides, comparing him to Hondo is like comparing apples to oranges, because Hondo was created to serve an entirely different purpose than Jar Jar besides comic relief. A better comparison would be Chewie in the OT, or even Threepio. I personally find Threepio more annoying than Jar Jar, but his annoying nature was intentional and fit his snobbish, stick-in-the-mud personality. C-3PO works as comic relief as apposed to Jar Jar because it was not forced, and the writers of the OT knew when to tone him down in more serious moments. It was a perfect juxtaposition to Han's laid-back attitude and led to many genuinely funny moments.

Batuu is so baffling to me. Why they didn't even acknowledge anything that happens in the park (ie: picking up the Millenium Falcon from Hondo) is just a huge missed opportunity
@@KetsubanSolo What they could do is have an episode where Din goes to Batuu and meets Hondo and could even film it IN the park and have guests be extras (like in Saving Mr Banks if you've seen that film. They actually filmed part of it in Disneyland and guests were dressed up in 60s clothes that day and got to film with Tom Hanks) and MAYBE they could even have the Falcon in that episode and Mando and Hondo fly it together. Something like that, you know?
Possibly. However, as the clip in the video kinda suggests, I think a lot of the character just comes Jim Cummings doing his thing. I could be wrong, but I doubt Filoni and/or Lucas ever intended him to be quite as funny and over the top as he ended up.

Hondo is funny, and can tell jokes, without being a joke himself. Making a funny, consistently amusing character that is both not offensive, and not the butt end of the jokes all the time is surprisingly difficult to do.

As someone who had never watched CW, I had no idea who this character was. But after watching a “beat of” compilation, I can see why Hondo is a favorite!
Hondo actually did 1 completely altruistic act in all of his appearances. He helped in the liberation of Lothal. He was convinced for Ezra. He said he would do anything for that boy....
Now all I really want for Christmas is a one-shot live action crossover with Hondo and Jack Sparrow teaming up to find some lost Jedi temple full of kaiber crystals on an ocean world full of Quarren.
My favortie scene with Hando was when he was talking to Boba. It went something in the line of of "Boba let them go." "Why should I let them live?!" "Because your father was an honorable man." This always comes to mind when I think of Hando.

Funny that you put it in d&d terms considering the voice actor played the character Minsc in the computer version of The very popular Baldur's Gate, Shadows of Amn. Couldn't believe the first time I heard his character talking to Obi-Wan and I had to stop the program until I was done laughing. They made him much more of a reluctant good guy in rebels due to Ezra's honesty and charisma affecting him. You could tell there was genuine affection for the boy from day one coming from Hondo.
Eh. That doesn't really work. Palpatine is just a front, a facade. Hes just the mere surface of the character. Everything Palpatine does furthers Sidious' goals. Palpatine if he wasn't a Sith or just counting that part of his character is a c or maybe b tier character if hes lucky.

Jar Jar is a part of the story during that era. You take the good with the bad, that’s how it is.

My husband Jim’s favorite! Turns out he and Jim Cummings grew up around the same area in Youngstown, Ohio.
Hondo is just one of filoni’s favorites that feels like a joke that’s been played out for years.
