    So helpful! I signed up for an outside double for the SAS FA20 voyage and even though it's shortened I couldn't be more excited! I wasn't able to save enough for a full voyage so I'm partly glad this is shortened. Much love! ♥️

      Katie Wilson THATS GREAT!! Despite it being Shortened I love all the countries fa20 is going to. There’s a lot of similar countries between my voyage (fa19) and fa20, and I loved every country I went to. You’re going to have the experience of a lifetime, and if you have any questions please ask!!

    I’m 14 y/o now and in 3 years I will be finished with high school... So I’ll be 18. But I live in the Netherlands so our school system is different... If I do a gap year, does my choice in courses effect my courses in college? Because I haven’t really seen courses I’m super interested in but idc bc I wanna do SAS :)
    Ik this is not about courses but this question is going to haunt me for 3 years

    • @CamrynHaby
      @CamrynHaby  4 года назад +1

      Hi! Nope! The courses you take on SAS will be counted as college credit, but ultimately it's up to the university you end up going to that will decide if they count the courses towards your degree plan. I had some friends that took classes, but knew the credit wouldn't transfer back. Did that answer your question?

    Are there rooms which are not displayed... And do you know the cost of those rooms and how do they look from inside?

    • @CamrynHaby
      @CamrynHaby  4 года назад +1

      Tanu Bhan Hi! For my voyage there was what was called saver cabins that weren’t displayed. However, I believe now the display them on the website as the “Adventure Double Bunk”. On the website it says they are $26,599 (this includes tuition, room and board, etc.). If you want to see what it looks like inside you can google “Semester at Sea Adventure Double Bunk Cabin Photos” and you should find a link that will take you to the page!

    How is the payment schedule? Do you have to pay it all before the voyage ends? I know you pay the tuition up front but for the costs that occur at sea, how does that work?

    • @CamrynHaby
      @CamrynHaby  3 года назад

      so for costs at sea, you put a credit card on file for what’s called your “shipboard account” and they recommend you use a credit card that you don’t have on you, so you can still access your shipboard if you lose your credit card. Each month your credit card will get charged for how ever much you spent on the ship, and you will also get a print out of how much/what you spent that month so you know how much was charged

    Hello! I have a question about the scholarships. I know that there are many application scholarships through SAS as well as academic scholarships from SAS. When does one find out if they receive an academic scholarship from SAS? Thank you! Love the video!

    • @CamrynHaby
      @CamrynHaby  4 года назад

      Hi! so SAS has one scholarship, that I remember, that is based solely on academics, and it's called the Merit based scholarship. for that one you typically find out within 1-2 weeks of submitting your application. for the rest of the scholarships listed on the SAS website I think you find out around 3-4 weeks after the scholarship applications close

    What kind of jobs are there on the ship?

    • @CamrynHaby
      @CamrynHaby  4 года назад +3

      There are a lot of different jobs. Some are for the social media team, dependent child caretaker, writing center, library, helping with IT, etc. I believe you can find a list of the student job positions and what they do if you google "semester at sea student jobs"

    Hi Camryn!!
    I saw where you said you have to have a credit card on file. I do not currently have a credit card so my question would be if I could have a debit card instead. Also how did you handle buying things in port with different currencies? Thank you so much!!

      Also, where do I find the field programs for the voyage of Spring 2023

    • @CamrynHaby
      @CamrynHaby  3 года назад +1

      Hi!! Yes, you can have a debit card on file too! I know if you place a debit card on file they recommend making sure you always have at least $100 in the account to prevent overcharge fees or anything like that. Buying things in port wasn't too hard. Before leaving I made sure to get some money in every currency for the ports that I could that way I wouldn't have to immediately go to an ATM. I did pay for everything in cash while in port because I felt more comfortable doing that, and it made me more responsible with my money lol. For the Spring 2023 voyage, they probably have not posted the field programs yet! I think they posted them for the fall 2019 voyage around 3-4 months before we embarked. Hope all this helped!!

    How did you save??

    • @CamrynHaby
      @CamrynHaby  3 года назад

      hi! I saved money by working a part time job, and then by also just choosing to stay in some nights instead of going out with friends. my friends are also amazing and so instead of planning things that would cost money, we started to look at free things to do that way I didn't have to give up my social life completely lol
      I recommend seeing what all you currently spend money on, and then look to see what things you can maybe cut back spending money on to save!

  • @f41th5

    do you have any tips for talking to your parents about it, especially the cost part! I'm 15 right now, would you recommend to start saving for it now?

    • @CamrynHaby
      @CamrynHaby  3 года назад +1

      For me I just kept bringing it up too my parents and talking about how much I wanted to go on it, and how it could benefit me. For the cost part, I told my parents that I would cover all the costs of me traveling while on SAS and paying for everything (tuition, books, etc) either through my own money, scholarships, or loans. My parents were extremely nice though and helped cover part of the tuition. If you know that you really want to go on this, I would recommend to start saving now, but also still enjoy your teen years and have fun with friends. There are so many options you can look into to fund SAS when it becomes closer to the time of you actually setting sail!
