    I just love the way you demonstrate the MODX. Maybe because I am also an "80's guy" like you. I played keyboards in bands those days and sold records in the 80's, and I grew up with the DX7 and bands & artists like Dire Straits, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Eagles, Guns & Roses, Supertramp, Genesis, Queen, Tina Turner, Bruce Hornsby, Bryan Adams, Huey Lewis etc.
    You are doing such a great job and I am enjoying your videos a lot! All thumbs up!

    Those guitar and bass sounds on keyboards are extremly useful as additional elements. You could play the second rhythm guitar or the second bass guitar for example.

    I don't understand some of the comments here and elsewhere: the thing has what, 1000 preset patches or more? Some are going to be "classic" and some "trendy new stuff". Some people seem to take an instant dislike to the board because the 10 or 15 patches previewed out of 100s and 100s aren't exactly their cup of tea. And we haven't even dug into editing yet... What?!?
    Trolls gonna troll, I guess.

    The guitar and bass on the Montage are excellent, but I always thought that guitar sounds were one of the biggest strengths of the Motif XF. In fact, I still use some of the Motif sounds on the Montage sounds over the newer ones. I love the Motif 80's electric guitar with chorus...

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  6 лет назад

      i heard you can load the motif sounds on the montage, wonder if all the sample waveforms from the motif are onboard. have you tried that yourself?

    • @geoffk777
      @geoffk777 6 лет назад

      Yes to both questions. I've loaded some of the Motif samples (like their CS-80 library) into the Montage and they all worked fine. And every sound from the Motif XF/MOXF, along with all of the required samples, is built into the base sample ROM of the Montage. If you have a favorite Motif XF sound, it will be available on the Montage/MODX in basically unchanged form. Since the Montage has a 5.1 Gb sample ROM, fitting in the 768 Mb ROM of the Motif was no problem.

    • @geoffk777
      @geoffk777 6 лет назад

      It occurs to me that there's a video suggestion hiding in these comments. You have a MOXF and now an MODX. You could line both of them up and do a side-by-side comparison of identical patches on both instruments to see if there is really any audible difference. I'd watch it...

    Those guitar sounds are pretty good. I was also very impressed by the jazz drums. Such a realistic brush action, as if you’re hearing a live jazz performance! This keyboard is destined to be classic (oops, old Korg advertising buzzword) but you get the idea. This thing could become The M1 of the 2020’s. It definitly has the M1’s versitility, the DX7’s sharp sounds and the Wavestations experimentalness all in one package. But it is possible to turn the superknob’s flashing light off? My dad does not like the constant flashing of it.

    This machine is absolutely awesome. The user can bring it to a party or some concerts easily because of a light weight, but tons of effective sounds and functions.
    The acoustic guitar sounds shown in the beginning of this clip are excellent - I am relaxed to hear that , definitely not like the harpsichord which has some other unique characteristics of sounds. I really enjoy with you, Woody.

    I've watched all the videos I could find on it, and I'm smiling. The 61 gives me the smallish, hi tech, not too pricey, legitimate synth I've been after. I hated that they went away from the "work station", but with the software, it essentially does have a sequencer, which I hate to admit, makes sense with so many "controllers" out there..it's just..kinda obsolete in a keyboard. I love it! Just what I wanted Yamaha! Finally.

    Can't believe Yamaha are still packing in those 90's sounding electro/hiphop backing tracks into this board. They are about as far removed from current music as one can get. They are in my Motif XF too, every time I switch it on I'm greeted by this awful "chilltronic" backing track. Don't get me wrong, there are a tonne of great sounds on these boards but it's high time Yamaha had a complete clean out of their VERY tired old backing tracks, they don't do the machine justice.

      there is a certain style going on here that i recognise from the motif, i wonder if they are composing backing styles that blend in to the background so you can improvise and jam over the top. i've got nothing against them, they sound nice, even though they aren't cutting edge or super modern. they certainly are quite distinctive, i'll explore more of them in the future, i'm sure there are some fresher styles in this board somewhere.

    Yamaha has had by far the best acoustic and electric guitar and electric bass sounds in a keyboard since they released the Motif ES series workstations in 2003. Roland is second best but Korg can honestly hide their head in shame when it comes to their guitar and bass sounds, even in their multi gigabyte Kronos and Nautilus ROM. My 1995 Trinity has better guitar sounds than the 2021 Kronos and Nautilus that has only 24MB of waveform ROM, not several gigabytes!

    Motif ES was released in 2003 having 1GB of user memory . Montage is released in 2018 having only 2GB of user memory over ES. Strange right ? . With a 100$ cheap personal computer you can have 16 GB of memory if you want . But with this 4000$ synth you can't put more user memory space even if you want that .
    I think Yamaha are afraid to put more user memory because in such case they won't sell future products . That's why they expand only the factory library space of new products and the user memory remains limited to 1gb since Motif ES that was released in 2003 . What a tricky conspiracy to rip our money .
    16 years have passed and they don't want the user to have more memory
    So they avoid putting 2 ram slots (user option if he want to buy 32gb of ram or flash or not over the 1gb of factory flash) and instead they promote their new products saying that the factory sample memory was expanded from 700mb to 5 GB...etc etc . So they always maintain user memory as low as possible because they promote their new products using the factory sample memory size as marketing tactic .
    This way some users will buy the new flagships because they are tired of the factory sounds and only 1gb of flash user memory is a joke ...marketing tactics folks . Is not practical to load erase and reload sound banks by staying limited in 1gb....I have 50 Motif XS sound banks . But I can load only 3 or 4 and if I want to load a new one I need to erase the ones that are stored so you can have 100 banks but will be a pain to load reload for different projects ..
    Now I use a PC and I can have as much memory I need ...
