One of the nice things about living in the South is that air & water is mostly clean & it's mostly warm.As an Arkansan, there is a saying, If you don't like the weather here, wait two or three days.

Bama is not too bad if you’re upper middle class. I grew up in Bama. I was stationed at two Army bases in Alabama. They were the best Army bases during my military career. My future wife was attending Jax State University, Jacksonville, Alabama. We have been married for 39 years. I never worked in the civilian sector. I retired from Army after 20 years and taught Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps for 25.5 years. I couldn’t abandon my mother and father who had aged when I retired from the Army. I love myself some south. I have lived all over America and the world. However, there’s no place I rather be than the south.

PREACH!!!! You have said more than a mouthful. Sometimes you have to take a stand. It's just a matter of whether or not the bully is willing to pay the price. I think more of us are.

Ive lived in Alabama for 15 yrs in a very small Caucasian town and haven't had a problem at all. I love small town living and my family and i mind our own business. We are one of only 4 families that are black and our neighbors are pretty decent and helpful.

My family’s from Alabama… we’ve always stayed in the south… tx, la, ga… the ones who moved to big cities or heavy blue states always find their way back… racism is all around the country… you can go up north or far west and experience more racism than you would in the south…

Great points here. One thing is for sure, they can cook down south. You're right Lady Boule, we have and will probably have to take a stand. I think about Booker T. Washington. There were very few resources, but he raised the funding, built a college, and prepared his people for the world they were living in. They learned and were taught SKILLS that translated to real world work and employment. I'd love to have met him. The south was a "tough row to hoe", but the people stand up under a lot. They're not mentally weak people. I'm from Mississippi and I saw that in them. I love the fact that you say, "The people took a stand and weren't going to be run into the ground." This racism foolishness is getting old. We have one chance to live and whatever life you live, it's what you go into eternity with.

Great point LB!!! No place is perfect. My Black Creole grandma and great grandma emigrated from Louisiana (Shreveport) for a better life here in California. But people in general move to the South-Alabama included-because the cost of living is much reasonable than California or New York

Lady Boule, often your commentary and analyses are on point, just as the commentary and analyses by those that came before us. The problem seems that too many with ears REFUSE, yesterday and today, to hear then work at doing the right thing!

Good Review and good observation, but the listed 4 so-called towns. Are truly justified major cities in Alabama. For Ex. B'ham metro is like over a milllion people. Not as big as Atlanta, but big enough. Yes the black population in Alabama is growing because the Blacks descendants are returning to the south and Alabama. I am from Montgomery and speak it sister!

Yeah, you’re not speaking about the clan population to try to speak that black people resilient we know we are resilient. Who are you trying to prove this to when we know what the state of America is and the state of Texas has shown us many different times that they prefer brown people that to the line and speak their tune rather than black people that are trying to be pro black people.
