    Well I cannot agree more on every single aspect of this car. This is my wife's car which we bought on 13/03/2019 with 4 mils on the clock hence the newest of the new. And in only 8 days we did 700 mls, the average juice requirements were 24 mpg, which in my humble opinion is phenomenal. This included some very heavy traffic and some energetic trips; no too energetic since this car is still very new.
    After all you cannot push this car to its limits in daily use unless you insist on killing yourself and many others in that process.
    And it drives!!!!! It is a shear joy to drive it!!!. The previous car in the family was Golf R estate, nicely appointed with all but the sunroof bought also new on 31/03/2016 with a dynamic chassis control indeed. And we felt the Golf was one of the best cars one can own and drive until this car arrived; this car is so much better in every single respect and in particular the way it drives; needles to say much, much faster than the Golf but the handling/steering/braking far, far, far better compared with the Golf and a shear pleasure and joy to drive, with all my due respect to the Golf. Not infrequent you have to control yourself not to use the longest roads in order to find an excuse to drive this care for more and longer!
    Now some facts: the same daily routine I do in a very effortless and sedate way and yet the Google Maps regularly reports: you have reached your destination 4 or so minute quicker than your usual time. So much better if not the best this car is!
    ADDICTIVE!!!
    Thanks Ped great video

    I have a Stelvio Quadrifoglio Rosso Tri-competizione. I can relate to everything said in the video. I find myself slowing down and creating space (several car lengths), put in Race mode, Switch to manual, drop it to 2nd and punch it and feel what Falcon X might feel like launching as I click the paddles just for the fun(feel) of it!!! Awesome! A true "meccanica della emozioni"...

    I shouldn't tease myself by watching these vids on the Stelvio Quadrifoglio, but I can't help it. That said, I have yet to see a reviewer not have a broad smile on their face while driving it, and it generally happens around the first time they push it. Must be something about the sound and the handling as they're doing it that automatically generates that sensation. Anyways, nice review and thanks for posting.

    I really like this car and think it's a really tempting proposition, far more so than the Giulia, which isn't practical enough for me. Sure it drinks a bit of SUL but let's face it a Cayenne Turbo S isn't famed for its economy either.

    As I assumed it would be you have done a great job with this review. I also appreciate that you always allow the engine to get to temperature before you start with the fun stuff. I have taken a close look at the Giulia Quadrifoglio, but when the Stelvio Quadrifoglio was mentioned that became my vehicle of interest. I am looking and waiting for the right one to come along, and the practicality of an SUV wrapped around a racing engine just makes it more appealing to me.
    I have owned a perfect C63 AMG, which was really great, but stupidity had me go into a Shelby GT350, which as great as that car was, did not compare to the AMG in daily driving for me. Prior to that was a 2012 Boss 302 which was probably my favorite car. Way back in the day it was an older 911, but it was ran over by a huge truck at a stop light, so that ended that. Due to work and traveling I have made some really idiotic decisions with my vehicles, and now I am in a 2018 Edge Sport, which as fun as it is to drive, it just isn't the Alfa. So I'm not on the search and will let you know how it goes. But my next vehicle will be an Alfa with a Q somewhere in the name. Thanks for doing such a great job with your reviews.

    10 hrs driving without stop except refueling. On the end fill fresh, relaxed. Can tell sits and suspension are stiff, but for me for sure not boring. And as I said after 10 hrs relaxed. So I think it is good enough. Only my one remark about built in infoteinment system. The subwoofer is getting not enough power for it. The final sound therefore is flat without the depth of it. Hej FCA - there is small job, reprogramm power disribution for the speakers please. And of course, the best sound is emited by the muflers. But I like music like opera too.

I was initially planning to buy a Giulia Q. Your information about fuel consumption is relevant. Not everyone buying a car like this is made of money, or devoid of environmental consciousness. I come from a manual Giulia Quadrifoglio, so recognise a lot of the positive and negatives. My biggest criticism of the Giulia was not the fuel economy, 11 l/100 km over 10.000 km, which is quite good for the performance but that the size of the fuel tank was far too small at 57 litres, the exact same size as a 150 bhp diesel Giulia. Think the Stelvio has a slightly larger 62 litres fuel tank, but it still means that the range is less than 400 km on a tank of fuel on run. A 75 litre tank would have made much more sense!

    I'm only 11 minutes into the video (which has been great so far btw)....A question has sprung to mind, I have a Giulia QV, love it btw, however, one thing I found out after buying it is, the engine has to come out to do a belt change every 30k miles, is it the same for the Stelvio ? The mileage issue is something you have to learn to live with, if they Stelvio is anything like the Giulia, well l;ets put it this way, there are cars that are made to run to the shops etc, the Giulia is made to stretch it's legs, to make you get out of the car smiling, even when you are picking up speeding tickets....For economy, pick up a Tesla....

    Nice review Pete, like the new logo (guess the new tops are on their way?)
    One criticism, a very common youtubers error in my humble opinion (from my favourite couch whilst sucking on a potatoe) please remember to show the engine. OK most of them are covered in panels and the like but it does add to the viewing experience if your sat at home on ur arse and you like your cars..Jay and Harry they know...Harry always goes straight to the engine first few minutes. BUT your approachable and they're not, and that counts for a lot..
    A quick suggestion if i may, maybe do a bike test also? - can you put a bike in without the front wheel? Love my cycling, be good to know that.:). Thanks Pete.

    Great review, can't quibble with your comments (other than the bit about Carplay/Android Auto - I believe they all have it, albeit wired connection only on earlier cars like the one you drove).
    However, as an owner (lucky me!!) I fear you missed one other significant fly in the ointment - servicing costs. Mine is 4 years old and has only 22k miles on the clock (possibly as a result of the fuel economy you mentioned causing previous owners to keep the mileage down...). At 4 years (or 38k miles, whichever comes first) these cars require a belt service in addition to the oil/filters/plugs etc. A franchised Alfa Romeo dealer will want around £2k to do this service!!! Even going to an independent specialist will still leave your wallet £1400-£1600 lighter. The main reason being that unlike pretty much any other car on the planet, where auxiliary drive belt replacement requires only a little bit of dismantling, the design of the Alfa V6 requires essentially the whole front end of the car to be removed: Bumper, radiators, A/C, intercoolers, induction system, alternator, you name it, it has to come off. Local independent tells me it's a full two days' work to do it all...
    And don't get me started on the price of brakes (front discs £300+ *each* for the steel ones, heaven only knows how much if you opt for the carbon ceramics!). Yes, yes, I know you don't expect cars with this sort of performance to be cheap to run, but £2k+ for a service? It's a family SUV, not a flippin' Ferrari!

  • @sergiuswai9514
    @sergiuswai9514 5 лет назад +1

    How's the IBS braking with steel. Not a single review on youtube really goes into the brake by wire system. I read many horror stories about the brake by wire system and some say it's impossible to drive smoothly in stop and go traffic, for me that would be a total deal breaker. Can you shed any light on that?

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  5 лет назад

      You honestly wouldn’t know it was BBW on the steels. Nice feel at slow speeds and effective when you push hard. The carbons were just a bit soft and lacking in feel at slow speed but again amazing when really needed 👍

    • @comdutch
      @comdutch 5 лет назад +1

      I can shed some light on that: i've driven my Stelvio Q4 (Misano Blue) for some 13.000 miles by now.... in the beginning the bbw was total horror: couldn't make a 'taxi-stop' at all... forget about taking your gran for a trip ... ;-)) but..... you learn to live with it.... and getting better in using the brakes in the proces. In heavy city traffic: just use the adaptive cruise control: that works just fine. But there are some other quirky things that were not mentioned: This very expensive car has got no front fog-lights .... come again?? There is no interval switch on the back window wiper: so I always forget to stop the bloody thing..... and there are a few other ergonomic flaws......... one remedy : put the pedal to the metal and the smile appears on your face like the ones in the vid.... ;-))

    • @sergiuswai9514
      @sergiuswai9514 5 лет назад

      Alexander Commandeur Man, learning how to use the brakes again shouldn’t belong to such an expensive SUV...I will have to test drive it and decide.

      @@sergiuswai9514 Be warned !! If you've got the money to buy it ...... you will after a testdrive !! It happened to me .... I thought '' I'll get over the quirky things " and I did. This car is a real joy to drive ;-)

    Do i take that you would take the Stelvio over the Giulia? The latter with an estate body and 4 wheel drive would be the real choice, but they don't seem to want to do that. Would take the fight to the avants, have the space and be more aerodynamic.

    • @PetrolPed

  • @gregwallace9980
    @gregwallace9980 5 лет назад +1

    So I'm wondering why you got the Mini over the Stelvio? The Stelvio is much more of a Swiss army knife type vehicle isn't it?? BTW, the base model Ti Sport gives performance similar to an E46 M3 with much better gas mileage than the QV...it's working out great for me! Mine is racing green, which looks fantastic especially with blacked out trim.

    Little update: my Stelvio Quadrifoglio (5-2018) made 21,2 miles per gallon on average the last 25.000 miles (50% in R / 25% in D / 25% in N and A) with Euro 95 Octane unleaded as described in the manual. That's very 'thirsty' but you forget about that as soon as you use the car and are lucky enough to not have to worry about that.... ;-))

    29th comment. Beats my last one by 11. So I must be improving? :-)...
    Have a word with your "photo bombing" neighbour. @4:17 into the video, there he is again popping his head up to do the bins again. Me thinks he's planning this to the nth degree. everytime you're in a car doing your interior chat, he pops up. Regular as clockwork :-)...
    I'm waiting to see his comment. "Did you see me in Pete's video again? Awesome timing. Eh?"
    Great to see Petrol Pooch and Pup making their appearance again. Though I do notice that Pooch is still the very dominant one. "I'm sitting on dads knee and that's final!"
    My only criticism (If it can be classed as a criticism.) was @16:25 when you said, "...just using it for the weekend..." (Because of its thirst for petrol.). Who would buy a SUV just to use at the weekend? Weekend cars are supposed to be sports cars. Something like an E-Type or an AC Cobra. Not a SUV.
    See you tomorrow. :-)...
