Totally support close embrace for dancing, and the initial 'hug' approach and then taking leader left/follower right (and there's a whole lot about that hand connection as well). However, there are many reasons why some don't want close hold - cultural, personal, partner. Certainly in the UK a 'hug' isn't always well regarded as in Latin countries. And maybe not in some other Anglophone countries. As a lead I find an acceptable compromise, which you touched on ~3:20, is to take leader left/follower right first, and then place my right arm around. This gives the follower the opportunity to adjust the distance they prefer with their left arm/hand - and close hold is an option. But you have to be able to do close hold first.
You could also address the position and shape of the leader's right hand! Do you want 'the spider'?
Also bodies come in all shapes and sizes. You don't want that right hand round too far on a slim follower! And then, of course, there are larger followers where even close can be distant.
Good video! I'm sure you'll cover all these aspects on your courses😊

from your comment I've understood you have lots of experience in leading. Can you please tell me, a leader-beginner, whay so many followers have a heavy right hand? I even developed a pain in my left shoulder. I can not understand whose mistake it is.

Pablo after 3:20 touched very sensitive matter. I observed that if lady put too much stress on right men's arm by her arm pit, he automatically clutch the arm and press her towards his chest. Lightweight arms on men's shoulder, means no men's clutch
The other story is ladies hanging on men's arms. That eliminate lightweight dancing and resemble more wrestling than dancing :)

Can you also show us how to change or whether it is necessary to change our embrace for figures like paradas, ocho cortados, sacadas etc. I especially have a hard time to go into corridor, that is, the one in 6:27. Most of the time, my legs collapse into those of the follower when I try going forward and since I am taller I have hard time balancing my body weight while bending onto follower. Doesn't matter how much I tried, I end up losing my balance and faltering on my feet.

I think it is easier to follow in close embrace.

Oh, wow this magical video is probably one of your best ever. Any leader will be loved for leading a sensual and comfortable abrazo cerrado together with a constant presence during the walk. Not much more is needed. Technically with less options to cheat, you need some more tension in your core/back and a bit more dissociation too. Your fabulous Anne & Pablo

Yes. I need to be able to dance better, though in the open embrace without my dance partners misstepping ir losing her balance frequently, and saying multiple times during a tanda....
    Oops
    My mistake.
    Sorry.
I know it is me. I do not see the ladies dancing with other dancers doing more complex dance moves and not making those mistakes....

One thing is close embrace (cercano) a very different one is CLOSED embrace (cerrado), meaning LOCKED. Una coja es con guitarra, otra es con violín.

Okay for the technical part but more than the half of my vision is gone in close embrace which is stressful in crowded milongas 😅 I realized that I cannot persevere closed embrace more than 10-15 steps since I need to see around for the rondo traffic frequently 🙈

You can even lose that visibility with a taller follower. And dancing with an Amazon gives even more vision and close hold issues! My answer is to lead some rotating step, e.g. giro, to give me an all round view.
I also take off my spectacles for a tanda, so other dancers in the ronda are a blur.
More concerning can be the hair style!

100% it gets very hot in close embrace and it is very restrictive only allowing you to do limited moves so it is better to change from close to open when required
