In-depth look at an Antique Japanese Regulator Wall Clock

Here we have this really worn down Antique Japanese Regulator Wall clock. The clock does run but it is very worn down and has a few notable problems. Such as the fact the glass case that covers the clock face has a bad screw in it that doesn't want to tighten. Other than that, this is still a nice clock.

I tried to do a request for that, and unfortunately it was declined. There are already videos for the inside of the Colonial. He could take off the clock face, but that's a lot of work. The only way to see the inside of that clock is to take out the panels, rather than doing work by removing the clock face.

The movement looks very American. I love the way the word regulator has been applied here. Gorgeous clock yes. Regulator - no. The movement has none of the features to warrant that title, I`m afraid. But I do love old clocks and that one is really great. Plenty of swing on that pendulum!

This is not a' regulator ''. A proper regulator has a ''deadbeat'' escapement with associated Harrison's maintaining power whereas this has a normal recoil escapement with backwards facing teeth on the escapement wheel. The teeth on a deadbeat escapement wheel face forwards .
Ideally, a regulator should have a metre long seconds beating pendulum and be weight driven. Purists hold a regulator should not chime or strike the hours as this is supposed to affect accuracy .
A genuine regulator was an expensive thing to make . Mass producers, particularly in the U.S.A , sometimes emblazoned the word as a selling point on something which was nothing of the kind .

This is an old clock in the style of a regulator, unlike the modern schoolhouse regulator clocks we see to this day. It's from the early 1900's, so it's one of the oldest clocks he has.
