I don’t know if people noticed, but just as another RUclipsr pointed out. T-Stops, the 14mm 2.8 is brighter at the same exposure settings. Look at the peak of the mountain on the top left corner on both images. He also mentioned that the 10-24mm also lets in more light at the same f-stops.
Ariel Glaze I saw the same video you are referring to. I agree that the 14 is brighter but in my testing for sharpness I found these lenses pretty much the same. On a side note though I find myself leaving the 8-16mm at home in place of the 14mm more often lately on long hikes due to its weight. Thanks for the great observation and comment.
thanks for this Gabriel, I was weighing up between the two. I will go with the 14mm prime as I also think it will be great for video work on a gimbal + double up as an UWA for landscape photography
Great video and excellent presentation. Clear and calm. Thanks. Your work, amongst others, makes me think about getting in the fuji system. I really like the X-T3 especially. Can you recommend some good lenses to cover most of my needs for landscape, street and architecture photography?
Thank you very much. I appreciate you taking the time to watch. My recommendations for landscapes are zooms. I used to always use primes for my landscapes but gradually switched over zooms for their convenience and as illustrated in this video, their excellent image quality. I will say that for my landscapes my go to and most used lens is the 16-55mm f2.8. I would be lost without this lens. It is amazing at all focal lengths and apertures, also produces amazing sun stars, is weather sealed and built like a tank. I also use it for street sometimes but do prefer primes for street. I would recommend the 55-200 for landscapes as the image quality is right on par with them more expensive 50-140 which is the lens I use because of its weather sealing but often want the 55-200 for its extra reach. Finally on the wide end, well the 8-16 may be fuji's best built xf lens but it comes at a price. The 10-24 f4 is an excellent lens and also great with video. I chose the 8-16 for its superb image quality but its not for everyone due to its size and lack of filter threads. As for street I love fuji's f2 lineup of lenses. The 35mm f2 is my favorite (probably due to the fact that I started shooting photos with a 50mm f1.4 Pentax) but the 23mm f2 is amazing and the 50mm f2 could be one of fuji's sharpest lenses that has amazing micro contrast. The auto focus is excellent on all three. And these lenses are weather sealed and so small you can just put them in your pocket and go. For architecture well I wouldn't recommend the 10-24 (too much distortion) the 8-16mm is by far and away one of the best lenses for architecture of any camera system and number one for sure on the Fuji system. I recently shot some images in Las Vegas that were amazing in terms of non distortion, sharpness and micro contrast rendering. The 14mm prime is also excellent for this genre but not quite wide enough sometimes. I also own the 56mm f1.2 which is lovely but probably my most under used lens of all, due to the fact that I don't do much portraiture. I started with canon cameras, switched to a Sony A7R and then sold everything two and a half years ago to buy all Fuji. I don't miss the others and never find myself craving another system, well except the Fuji GFX system of course. The Fuji camera system as a soul to it that I haven't found or connected to with other systems. Hope this long winded explanation helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Thanks again.
@@GabrielOakPhotography Hi Gabriel, thank you so much for your clear and elaborate reply! A lot to consider for me. I will take the time to let it all sink in. Have a nice day and keep up the great work you are putting out there. You deserve a big audience, I think.
Thank you so much. I appreciate it. I just watched some of your videos. I subbed you as well. I am really glad I can watch these as I am in the process of learning Italian. I teach and am bilingual in Spanish so it isn't crazy difficult to understand you. I look forward to watching more.
@@GabrielOakPhotography you're welcome and I am happy you can get the meaning of what I tell about. Maybe Italian scripts could help you a little more. I've got some English speaking friends but unfortunately the can't understand me. See you soon... Meanwhile I will take a look to your past vids. Ciao for now
Thanks I like that shot as well. I have no regrets either. The more I use the lens the more I see what it truly has to offer. I don't know about you but people say many of the fuji lenses have a certain magic to them like the 23mm 1.4 and 35 1.4. I feel that this is one of those lenses. It has a magic and a way of rendering images that other lenses lack.
@@GabrielOakPhotography I agree, there's just something about it even when I've tilted the horizontal plane, the lens distortion lends itself to a creative angle. The 16m f/1.4 is another gem too. Now you've given me another reason to hike that trail andshoot Zion, as if it needed a reason
8-16mm f2.8 I bought today for $1600 inc tax. Lock down price maybe? Seems like it is more representative of value at this price would you agree.? I use 16 1.4, 23 f2, kit lens and 55-200 on an XT3.; Thanks for uploading and your thoughts on the 2 lens. You are a good photographer. Thanks
Elias Pap honestly neither one of the lenses has a lot of distortion at 14 mm. The 8 to 16 mm does astonishing well with distortion from anywhere from 8 to 14.
The 8-16 lens is so tempting with that ultra-wide 8mm reach, 16mm 1.4 is my widest right now. Have been considering getting 10-24 but the lack of WR on that lens is a much bigger issue than the lack of easy filter solution on 8-16. Your videos with this lens have me thinking. :D
Both lens are excellent performance on Fuji's line up. I'm a traveler and amateur photographer, with these two lens, I must choose XF14 2.8, light weight is most important, and the price. :))
Thank you so much for this comparison and for the beautiful images! I was looking for a comparison between these two lenses and this helped tremendously. I also loved the shots using the different focal lengths with the 8-16mm. That 8mm shot was exceptional - I love the way that the field of view really brought my eye into the scene.
Adele Buttolph Thanks so much. I am glad you found the comparison useful. I certainly wasn’t expecting the zoom to beat the prime in almost every category. I have shot the 14mm for years and it has been my favorite landscape lens for so long until now. I also liked the 8mm perspective, it gives quite a different look. I will be showcasing the 8-16mm in my next two videos as well. Stay tuned. Thanks again.
Thank you for those helpful conclusions. I'm sort of happy with 10-24mm - & owning the 16m1.4 as well 3 other Exceptional Red Label Fuji's - that 4th Red is Very-Very-Temping.. Cheers fum AU on Fire. ;^D
Yes, the beast is on my H1 for 75% of the time! It is a greating lens if you take all the time all kind of foto's with it. It's take stunning toto's even portret. I love it. Tsanks for your interested video. I sell 16- 1.4 and 23- 1,4 for the beast, not for a moment disapointed!!!!!! Manygoodmoments end pictures and tsanksss fot jour good video....Roel
I was lusting after this lens before getting my GFX. Who knows? One day I may go back to the smaller system and get it along with the rumoured 16-80...
An intro is an intro to set the scene and feeling of the video for the audience Nothing more. If you don’t like it skip forward to where you want to watch. That takes less than10 seconds. I’m sure you can handle that.
Gabriel Oak Photography well I’m the one of 380 ppl who watched this and I find that in 20 min video having almost 1.30 min intro that’s not related to the topic is awful. Just my opinion no offense
Leed That’s what opinions are for. On a different note, I hope you found the comparison useful. It was truly an enlightening experience to see a zoom compete so well against an excellent prime.

Insightful! Thank you!
Any thoughts on how the 8-16mm stacks up against the 16mm 1.4? To me the 16mm 1.4 is fuji's best lens.
Very sharp lens indeed, but doesn’t do Astrophotography as well as one might think. Coma

Nice ultra wide i use my 18-55mm
On my x-t3 and do panorama in portrait mode.
