I agree Matt, they want to stay relevant & fresh, and to do that they have to change with the times. They are just as good as ever, just different, but every album has had a different sound from the last. FOB are changing and evolving with the times and some people will hate and others will embrace it and love it. While they might lose fans they are sure to gain new ones. Patricks voice has evolved over the years and I personally think it is fantastic!

Their first two albums were their most derivative work, but people don't admit that because some people liked the production style.

The thing about bands, especially ones like FOB or MCR(RIP T-T) is that as the members get older and the band progresses, their music evolves. While it may not be what you usually listen to or your favorite genre(the newer stuff), if the band is truly that good, the music will still be good. However, if it's not, you still have the old stuff. Don't let not liking the band's new music ruin your love and dedication to the band.
Nick Chowdrey and others complaining about FOB being dead, I agree. The old FOB is. This sounds nothing like their old album, but I think that their talent and lyrics make a song work that if by anyone else, wouldn't.
Also you have to admit, this songs not bad.(personally i love it)

It doesn't have to be the same, save rock and roll was a decent change for me, but it gave them mainstream success and this song is the result, a pretty generic pop song that ironically won't be remembered for a very long time.

i dont think ppl on youtube understand what the term "sellout" means. a bands sound changing over a couple of decades in relation with its members aging and changing does not a sellout make. dramatically changing a sound for monetary gain is the def of a sellout. FOB are not sellouts.

Is Centuries Fall Out Boy's best song? No, but it's still a good song compared to a lot of the other music being released today. Does it hold up to their older stuff? I can't say because I haven't heard the album and the rest of the songs. Band members grow older and their views on subjects change. You can't expect a band that's 15-20 years old to have the same views now as they did when they started out. Honestly, if you're going to stop listening to them because their sound has changed, it shows how much of a fan you are. You still have their old stuff and aren't being forced to listen to the newer albums.

To the people hating this just because it's different: Fall Out Boy experiments TONS with their music. They never release similar albums twice. They're constantly growing and changing. I hate to sound elitist, but if you even listen to all their singles chronologically, you can hear the differences. Why must Patrick overproduce everything? The bridge in this song is honestly one of the corniest I've ever heard lyrically, this is terrible music! These guys used to stand out, now they are another PANIC! where everyone obsesses over Brendan! This isn't anything new, just really cheesy lyrics with a terrible backtrack. I've supported so many other bands "change" Paramore, Linkin Park, Green Day, even Blink is different nowadays! Fall Out Boy is just doing it wrong, if you weren't around back in the TTTYG. days then you just don't get it.

Brandon Powell Not true at all. It's not all on Patrick anymore. That's the main reason the band split in the first place. Pete, Joe, and Andy have a lot more say in production now than they ever have. This in all honesty is the best song since the hiatus. Musically it's theatrical and epic. Lyrically it's still great. "I'm the opposite of amnesia. And you're a cherry blossom, you're about to bloom. You look so pretty but you're gone so soon." That's reminiscent of Folie a Deux lyrics which are arguably a collection of Pete's best. And Patrick's voice has grown so much over the years. If you've heard Pax Am Days (which is still great), then you know Patrick's voice doesn't really fit that type of music anymore. A vast majority really like this song, and these guys aren't going anywhere any time soon.
