I just recently purchased a home here in El Paso. Fort Bliss is really nice and it has all the comforts of home. The commissary is really nice and if you enjoy German foods check out their deli. Have a great time at Fort Bliss.
As a former El Pasoan, and Fort Bliss Post Security Officer, there is no such thing as Enlisted/NCO/Officer housing now, they removed the name and rank from the homes and have interblended it as part of the new quality of life standard. They also closed the Enlisted, NCO and Officer Clubs on Fort Bliss as part of that new Quality of life thing as they felt it bread division and hostility toward the ranks. Love that they cleaned up that Japanese Garden. I always liked Fort Bliss, they have really done a lot in recent years to give the soldiers and their families entertainment options and a better quality of life. Thanks for your service and the walk about.

Greetings Fam! Freedom Crossing was under construction when my Son was stationed there and deployed to Iraq where he was wounded. I drove back and forth from East Texas a couple of times when he was in and out of the hospital there. Great to see the “finished product” of all the “under construction”. Many interesting things to see and visit in the surrounding areas. EXCEPT Juarez. Wouldn’t recommend that at all. 👀. Use an abundance of caution if you are anywhere south of the Interstate. Enjoy
OMG you took me down memory lane. My dad was station there in the 60s. It has really changed. I saw the house we stayed in. If you had kept straight you would have passed it. The Red Brick district. Thanks for the memory.

I was sent TDY to Bliss from Benning in April 1981 to drive General Officers to various locations during Borderstar 1981, a joint forces exercise similar to Reforger in Germany. I was a PFC at the time and my MOS was 44B (Metalworker/Welder). I still don’t know how I got selected for it, but it a great detail. I’d pick the generals up at the El Paso airport and take them to the General Officers guest quarters (very nice!!) so they could change into their fatigues (OD Green at the time). From there, I’d take them to various locations on post (helipads or drive them to White Sands or McGregor Range across the border in New Mexico). I stopped by the PX once and saw the reserved parking spot for General of the Army Omar Bradley. Of course, he was retired then. He passed away around the time I left and returned to Benning. He had lived there for many years after he retired. Anyway, the post has changed a lot since 1981 when I was there. It looks great!! I’ve never seen so many civilian restaurants on one installation. The new enlisted quarters look great too!! I retired as an E7 in 2000 with 20 and a day or two. I’d promised my wife 16 years earlier that I’d go with 20. After Drill Sergeant, Recruiting, and Instructor assignments, I was ready. I’m glad I left when I did. Can’t look back! Forever Forward!!

Hey fam I lived there for 3 years working for the VA. It’s a diamond in the rough. I had so much fun. I love it there. A popular food is Chico’s Taco. You have to try them. I always tell them not a lot of juice unless you want them soggy.
Question: (or questions) Do you have to b a vet to stay in those trailer pks? Are mobile home the same to live in as a regular home would b? Are they less expensive to buy and maintain? Love the vids and places.
FYI, El Paso is a HUGE military supporter. You can get military discounts off base, however the gas prices is the same on and off base-- no big discount there .
Not to stir anything up (LOL), but how are the 5th wheel camper and new truck plans coming along? I think both of you will be a lot happier with the change, especially if this is your long-term planned lifestyle.
