  • Is our sexuality and gender identity fixed? Or flexible and responsive to others? At TEDxBloomington, Danielle McClelland introduces a new model for gender identity, sexuality, and relationships. She believes we each position ourselves sexually and to consciously embrace the process gives us all more freedom and ultimately, more power to live fulfilling lives. McClelland's twenty years of work in the arts as a playwright, director, and administrator has been augmented by time as professional cook, organic field hand, and union organizer. Danielle has written and produced two short films and is currently in development on a feature length screenplay set in Bloomington. She has presented her one-person show, the girl stories, in cities from New York to Portland. In her spare time, she serves as the Executive Director of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, and founded and produced the PRIDE Film Festival for ten years.
About TEDx, x=independently organized event. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Having friends is awesome because true friends let each other explore who they are, were and want to be. You guys want to know more about your sexuality, so you discuss it. You've showing a kind of friendship by leaving this comment to encourage others. Nice work.

I feel like TEDx is more Trans/Interested in gender than the average Trans-specific youtube channel, it's like they approve any talks that use "gender" in the first sentence. (Not to say any of them are poor quality, they are all quite good, there's just soo many of them.)

Good talk. Could have included asexuality, agenders, and non-binaries though (they don't fit anywhere on the Kinsey scale, or the proposed circles model).

    • @dynav6517

I mean. It's a bit outdated lol. I'd argue we need to do away with the kinsey scale because it doesn't leave room for those identities

I totally agree with the idea that what defines a man and what defines a woman are broad. There are no clear things to define the two genders. Why do transgenders act like there are? "I never liked sports so....I can't be a man". Gee, I didn't know that was what defined a man. There are different kinds of "men": more masculine, more feminine, unique, those that fit the perfect stereotype, etc.. There are different kinds of women: girly-girls, tomboys, sterotypical, unique, more agressive, etc. A female brain and a male body(or vice versa) doesn't make any sense. Accept yourself: A man/male or a woman/female.
