I'm guessing some type of non residue spray adhesive. I have used "Odif 505 Temporary Adhesive for Fabrics" I picked up at a big box craft chain. To be honest, I usually just stick with masking tape (pun intended)
I use 3mm wide double-sided tape. Depending on the type of leather, the adhesive strength may be lowered to prevent the surface of the leather from peeling off.
