How to create the BMW Digital main Key - BMW How-To

- In this video, BMW How-To shows you how to create your BMW Digital Key. With the optionally equipped features Comfort Access and the BMW Digital Key, you can turn your compatible iPhone into a vehicle key to conveniently lock, unlock, and even start your BMW. To create the main key for your BMW a BMW ID with a linked vehicle is required. To begin the setup process, you will need to have both of your remote keys with you inside your vehicle. Sign in to the My BMW App to setup your main key. In the vehicle tab select “Digital Key” and tap “Start setting up your Digital Key”. Confirm and tap “Continue”. Tap “Start Pairing” and follow the instructions. Once paired, your BMW Digital Key will be added to your Apple Wallet App. Tap “Continue” and place iPhone in the wireless charging tray. The activation process will start automatically. On the Central Information Display you can follow the progress. You will receive a notification when the digital key has been activated successfully. You also have the possibility to add a BMW Digital Key to your Apple Watch Series 5 or newer. Alternatively, after connecting your BMW to the My BMW App, an email with a link to setup the BMW Digital Key will be sent to you. Tap on the pairing link to begin the setup of the main key on your compatible BMW. Follow the steps on your smartphone and on the Central Information Display to activate the digital key.
BMW Digital Key is available on selected BMWs produced after Summer 2020 with the optional equipment Comfort Access (SA322). To see whether your vehicle is compatible, you can use the My BMW App version 1.2 or later. Use your compatible iPhone to log into the app with your BMW ID and add your vehicle to your account, if it is not already shown on your account. If you see a section marked “Digital Key” on the first tab, then your vehicle is compatible.
The following devices are compatible with BMW Digital Key: iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max or later and Apple Watch Series 5 or later. BMW Digital Key will require iOS 13.6 and WatchOS 6.2.8. or later.

When will digital key *sharing* be available on Android?
The annoying thing with this digital key plus is it takes over the key fob. Is there a way to have the key fob and digital key plus just secondary if key fob is missing?

@@debashishjena Audi already kicking ass of Tesla with their e-trons. Tesla cannot complete in quality department with European manufactures. In few years , Tesla will be forgotten as car company.
Have you seen how poorly Tesla is bolted together? Have you seen low quality of the materials (leather, plastic etc?) used in all teslas? Did you pay attention to videos capturing tesla manufacturing process?

I think for model year 2021 the 5 series is the only model to support digital key. Even the 7 series doesn’t yet.
same question, the physical manual in the car states it will have both a keycard and be able to use the digital key... but the bmw connected app has no such option. 2020 M340i

@@CristianGomez-xm3il It’s confusing but that’s for the digital car key that is like a physical credit card, as far as I know the 2021 five series is the only model that supports being able to unlock and lock it from holding your phone up to the drivers door handle and also on my car if I place my iPhone on the wireless charging tray I can start the vehicle and then once the engine is running I can remove my phone from the wireless charging tray.
@@djg1028 Thanks I just looked it up, they taxing tho $50 for a key card. Tesla gives their owners free cards even if they lose them

I am having the same problem. All of the features are there, and some of them link to the display, but there is no “digital key” tab on my app as shown. Nobody seems to have an answer.

Not anytime soon since this was an Apple idea. But I’ll look into getting some nfc tags and programming them
@@zad1429 well, they all steal ideas from each other lol. 2020 models weren't compatible with Android auto, 21 does. Hopefully Android will implement that soon. My 21 540i does come with a digital key card. Would be nice to have it on the phone as well tho.

I too have an aug 2020 g20. Although the Digital key card works, I don't see the digital key tab on the My BMW app on my iphone12 mini.

If your car was finished at end of 2019 for a 2020 sell year you can't use iPhone digital key, only the key card.

Yes it is a feature on that car, and it is an additional option also make sure your iPhone is newer than the iPhone Xs/iPhone XR and the software is updated as well as an Apple Watch if you have one

won’t be available for Android considering androids aren’t secure enough, which is why I stick with Apple too, loving the digital key in my X5

It's mostly Google's fault due to their late adoption of UWB and limited participation in the CCC. But it is coming soon :)
