The gods were with you @ 2:12 lol. 9 times out of 10 that attack will kill you. I'm in NG+ with 50 vitality and it killed me even though I beat him in 2 attempts.

VulkanRaven1 the guy right next to where you walk through the fog door. On the left. You ring the bell and he'll help you fight and if you stop moving he'll come up next to you and heal you. He's another hunter or something. Sorry don't know his name. You have to use insight for his help.

If you go stop close to him or let him come to you don't move and he'll will heal you. He usually doesn't make it past the second phase. He will throw magic or something at the little spiders and help kill them. Most the time he seems to target the one your locked onto. But if they get close they will kill him so work together.

this fight teaches patience more than anything else. The bait and rush method works perfectly but it is high risk. in the end, i just cleared the spiders 1 by 1 while dodging his hail attack (its easy after you get the timing). then take him on, rinse and repeat, its not hard. extra tip, his spiders can be one shotted if you hit their back.
Vikram Dandekar Seriously. After dying 10 times, I changed my tactics. I focused on killing the spiders one by one, made the fight a lot easier. I only used one blood vial the whole fight.

Thanks! I have, I actually got 1/2 through last year and then life happened and I never got back to it. I think I like BB a little more... but DS3 is totally worth it. More loot, armor, and builds. Plus your character can actually take a hit haha.

What the purpose of choosing a hair style if you always have to wear a hood or hat. It should be like Dragon age, where you can hide the hat and still get the protection.
You can choose to not wear the hat. Imo, the defenses the armor sets give you aren't that big of a deal if you know how to dodge enemy attacks and parry at the right moments. If anything, I see armor as more of a fashion statement/character customization feature.

+WolfsWorld the blood starved beast was such a lovely design. I honestly wish I came up with it. The back skin peeled over the head to look like a hoodie. fucking GOLDEN. I almost felt bad about killing it. all the monsters in this game are amazingly designed. I guess Rom is the way he is because had he been like an actual spider the fight may have resembled the giant spider from dark souls too much.

Agreed. It just looks like a big dumb larvae. Also the fact that they made Rom and its spiderlings initially passive, and then cowardly, makes me feel bad for attacking them. I was waiting for a Shadow of the Colossus style "you're actually doing the wrong thing" twist to happen.
I beat Rom on my first try, grant I am over level when I was playing, maybe close to 85-90. Just Whirlgig saw it to death.. But you did this at level 45, nice
@Ben Fritchley ROM was one of the few I beat on the first try on NG and NG+1 (grant NG+1 was easy as you know the moveset). half the other bosses took me over 20-40x first play thru. Either they are really easy or really hard round 1. Got the whirlgig saw before rom, as I got the dlc right after I got the game.
while i couldnt do it as fast as you, the weapon did help out in beating this boss. was hard as hell to get close to rom in phase three. kept spamming meteors and rocks shooting up and everything else, barely had a window to get in. i thought i met my wall for the game but i smashed through. feels good to beat a boss thats been giving you trouble

I used to think the ROM fight was tough but wasn't too bad.... until I fought it in the cramped challice dungeon. Holy crap, that was my biggest test in patience. Until I then got to the defiled challice and didn't know how good I had it up until then 😂

It's kinda fair to call her hardest boss before next bosses though. Unless you roam around (Hemwick, Old Yharnam, etc) before fighting her. For me, the hardest boss is Amygdala, then Martyr (easier because took me like 10 tries to know how to cheese him), while i struggled a lot against the spider bastard...
I killed him even quicker than this 3rd try. I summoned the mage just outside before the fight. Straight away used a Bolt paper on Ludwig's holy blade, and then hit each small spider twice from behind to eliminate them all. This was very easy with an ally, as they were often facing the other way. As soon as the last one was killed, i popped another bolt paper and ran straight to the side/back of Rom, i then just spammed R1 and kept hitting him, moving around to keep my attacks away from his face, and in one extended, broken combo i got him from 100% to 0% as my constant attacks and placement at his side prevented him from teleportation. Rom did not teleport, nor cast a single arcane attack, or do any damage at all. I couldn't believe my luck. Would love to hear if this worked for others!
Those friggin homing ice shards just one-shot me every time. I swear even the little spiders can just one-shot me sometimes too and my vit is in the 20's. Idk why most guides say to take the little spiders out before hitting him, you'll just get destroyed by Rom's ice attack in the process.
If you are having trouble with this method, just kill all spiders at all time. Usually, the spiders are going to kill you, not Rom. Learning his attacks patterns isn't that big of a deal. Keep your eyes on him at all time and TAKE YOUR TIME. I had a lot of trouble cheesing him like in this video.
During phase 1 (and phase 1 only) kill all the spiders before going after Rom, he will politely wait while you do so and this will mean fewer spiders to dodge in later stages.
Yeah, it just depends on playing styles though. Some people are a get in and trade hits kind of style and others hit and run. Some people just need a little guidance on how to handle certain bosses.
to think I suffered so much with the f***er, and found out he was weak to electric, and indeed thought about Tonitrus... And still didn't use it 😅 will sure give it a shot from now one
its weird because as i was trying to beat this boss and always die at phase 3, once it just got stuck on phase 1 and killed it easily as it was just watching me kill it. best glitch ever.
On my 2nd try with Rom, i was almost dead with 0 vial bloods and shot the cannon and almost we died together. I could’t believe it until i saw the blue screen prey slaughter. After that I died as soon as rom died.
i was really surprised to find that people found rom one of the hardest bosses in the game. I started the fight and just tanked hits whilst beating his ass. I had enough hp to survive all of his attacks so I could run and heal up. Just like that I beat him first try.
You know, I came here after beating rom last night (which took 30 tries) because I wanted to see if there was any trick method to beat him that I missed. Funny thing is I ended up doing exactly this minus the weapon. You just gotta play "tag & keep away", and not allow the fight to drag on. Reminds me of how I killed Nito before learning how to stop the skeletons from respawning.
What I ended up doing to kill this boss was killing all the Spiders in the first wave, taking a beast blood pellet and just hitting him with fully charged attacks with the Hunter Axe. Then I did hit and run tactics with the beast blood still in effect and killed him pretty quickly.
I found it easier if you kill the spiders. I died too many times because of them. I also thought Rom is one of the hardest until I killed the spiders. The annyoing thing is not the AoE, but that meteor shower he can spam if you are not close enough and if you don't do a mad dash in a direction, you will most certainly die. Keep an eye on Rom at all times. But if you kill the spiders and there is no one else to bother you for a whole phase, you can just bash Rom. To me he was one of the easier bosses.
Rom was so easy in NG+ for me because I knew his attack flow from playing the first time. He has 3 phases Phase 1: Rom doesnt attack you, Kill all the annoying spiders first then whale on him till he teleports. Easiest phase Phase 2: Kill all the spiders again before going at Rom. Now from afar, he will only do two attacks. One where he sends homing icicles on you, and the other he flips on his back and sends ice up from the ground . The latter is easy to dodge. Just back step 3 or 4 times and you'll be out of its proximity. The homing icecicles are the ones you gotta watch out for. They are dodge-able if you lock on to one of the spiders or rom and side step each one. Once all the spiders are killed, go for rom. Up close he has various attacks that'll do damage if you're too close. So go in, hit , go out Phase 3: Exact same as phase 2. Do this and you should kill him easily . Worked like charm for me.
Huge tip: when he rears back and drops arcane daggers run AT him and attack. Diagnally works but when you run at him you have time between his attacks to get close and do damage. Killing the spiders can help but past first round there isn't much of a point. Arcane resistance is huge too, gear up with it.
When he rolls as well. My last hit on him was an L2 with kirkhammer just as he had rolled. It was mostly out of desperation because it was the farthest I had got on him, I was in too close and low on hp. Took the last quarter of his hp in one swing. one of those holy shit...fuck yeah moments.
I found my Ludwig sword and bolt paper also works. Sprint in do swing at his side, Sprint/roll out. Rinse and repeat. Although lure the spiders away for the first phase, for a faster fight
I like how people say it is an easy boss. It is one of the worst. And the hunter is stupidly way overpowered by Romshit. Far from a fair or satisfying boss battle.
the hardest boss I ever beat. Another key advice, on the first swarm, Rom doesn't hit you, so take your time to kill all the spiders. Then, hit him from behind, as soon as he turns, hit his head, it seems to prevent him from disappearing, then you get a second shot at him. Played well, you can chunk off 3/4 of his life before he starts attacking you
Those that still work everytime I try it I get his health down bout 1/4 an he still teleports away no matter what. Have you done it recently or has it being patched
It took me five tries but I finally got him. I am not going to lie, I got quite cocky at first- thinking its going to be a walk in a park, but no! its a lot more of a challenge. I had an a lot easier time with Cleric Beast and Witch of Hemwick.

Ignoring spiders led me to nowhere. What helped was to kill them first while dodging Rom attacks and only then kill the Rom itself.

If you are having trouble with this method, just kill all spiders at all time. Usually, the spiders are going to kill you, not Rom. Learning his attacks patterns isn't that big of a deal.
Keep your eyes on him at all time and TAKE YOUR TIME.

During phase 1 (and phase 1 only) kill all the spiders before going after Rom, he will politely wait while you do so and this will mean fewer spiders to dodge in later stages.

Yeah, it just depends on playing styles though. Some people are a get in and trade hits kind of style and others hit and run. Some people just need a little guidance on how to handle certain bosses.

I just beat him for the first time yesterday, hands down my favorite boss.
its weird because as i was trying to beat this boss and always die at phase 3, once it just got stuck on phase 1 and killed it easily as it was just watching me kill it. best glitch ever.
I was stuck with this damn spider for 3 months, I used the flamesprayer and I finally killed it.

On my 2nd try with Rom, i was almost dead with 0 vial bloods and shot the cannon and almost we died together. I could’t believe it until i saw the blue screen prey slaughter. After that I died as soon as rom died.
I love watching these after i beat the boss. I just waited for an opening and fucked him up
i was really surprised to find that people found rom one of the hardest bosses in the game. I started the fight and just tanked hits whilst beating his ass. I had enough hp to survive all of his attacks so I could run and heal up. Just like that I beat him first try.

You know, I came here after beating rom last night (which took 30 tries) because I wanted to see if there was any trick method to beat him that I missed. Funny thing is I ended up doing exactly this minus the weapon. You just gotta play "tag & keep away", and not allow the fight to drag on. Reminds me of how I killed Nito before learning how to stop the skeletons from respawning.
What I ended up doing to kill this boss was killing all the Spiders in the first wave, taking a beast blood pellet and just hitting him with fully charged attacks with the Hunter Axe. Then I did hit and run tactics with the beast blood still in effect and killed him pretty quickly.

I found it easier if you kill the spiders. I died too many times because of them. I also thought Rom is one of the hardest until I killed the spiders.
The annyoing thing is not the AoE, but that meteor shower he can spam if you are not close enough and if you don't do a mad dash in a direction, you will most certainly die. Keep an eye on Rom at all times.
But if you kill the spiders and there is no one else to bother you for a whole phase, you can just bash Rom.
To me he was one of the easier bosses.
Rom was so easy in NG+ for me because I knew his attack flow from playing the first time. He has 3 phases
Phase 1: Rom doesnt attack you, Kill all the annoying spiders first then whale on him till he teleports. Easiest phase
Phase 2: Kill all the spiders again before going at Rom. Now from afar, he will only do two attacks. One where he sends homing icicles on you, and the other he flips on his back and sends ice up from the ground . The latter is easy to dodge. Just back step 3 or 4 times and you'll be out of its proximity. The homing icecicles are the ones you gotta watch out for. They are dodge-able if you lock on to one of the spiders or rom and side step each one. Once all the spiders are killed, go for rom. Up close he has various attacks that'll do damage if you're too close. So go in, hit , go out
Phase 3: Exact same as phase 2. Do this and you should kill him easily . Worked like charm for me.
Huge tip: when he rears back and drops arcane daggers run AT him and attack. Diagnally works but when you run at him you have time between his attacks to get close and do damage. Killing the spiders can help but past first round there isn't much of a point. Arcane resistance is huge too, gear up with it.
When he rolls as well.
My last hit on him was an L2 with kirkhammer just as he had rolled. It was mostly out of desperation because it was the farthest I had got on him, I was in too close and low on hp. Took the last quarter of his hp in one swing. one of those holy shit...fuck yeah moments.

I found my Ludwig sword and bolt paper also works. Sprint in do swing at his side, Sprint/roll out. Rinse and repeat. Although lure the spiders away for the first phase, for a faster fight

I like how people say it is an easy boss. It is one of the worst. And the hunter is stupidly way overpowered by Romshit. Far from a fair or satisfying boss battle.

the hardest boss I ever beat. Another key advice, on the first swarm, Rom doesn't hit you, so take your time to kill all the spiders. Then, hit him from behind, as soon as he turns, hit his head, it seems to prevent him from disappearing, then you get a second shot at him. Played well, you can chunk off 3/4 of his life before he starts attacking you
Or kill all the spiders in phase 1 and then flame thrower for 5 seconds and walk away
Those that still work everytime I try it I get his health down bout 1/4 an he still teleports away no matter what. Have you done it recently or has it being patched

It took me five tries but I finally got him. I am not going to lie, I got quite cocky at first- thinking its going to be a walk in a park, but no! its a lot more of a challenge. I had an a lot easier time with Cleric Beast and Witch of Hemwick.
This fight is incredibly easy if you just focus on the smaller spiders first. Dodge Rom's meteor attacks, and you're good.
Gonna try and give Rom the smackdown tonight
