  • Today we headed out to Dragway 42 to test our brand new 2024 Tesla Model S Track Plaid with a number of high Vehicle Performance Value vehicles. These included C8 Stingray,C8 Z06, Porsche Carrera T, Dodge Hellcat, and two super bikes (Kawasaki H2, Ducati V4 R) courtesy of my good friend 650IB. So, how fast is a new Tesla Model S Track Plaid? Just ask the drivers and riders of the vehicles that came to play!
    Watch and judge for your self what this machine is capable of when its not even fully charged, time did not allow for battery peak performance levels to ever be reached on any run, and we had zero experience with launching the car. Mind blowing!

      We actually did use Dragstrip mode but encountered launch issues (odd launch behaviors) the first time out because Tesla did not load the 20 inch ZeroG wheel configuration. The Track Pack software / firmware configuration did not contain 20 in ZeroGs in March 2024. It was still missing in the Track Package config in August 2024.
      Tesla updated it manually for me in August 2024 just before I did the Indy Airstrip attack on August 9th. 20 in ZeroG still does not show in pull down menu as a wheel option but I am told by my Tesla technician that he was able to manually load it in the software / firmware config.
      We set record as fastest Tesla ever recorded at Indy Airstrip 1/2 mile event on August 9th even with horrible 1/4 mile time of 10.0s on way to 180.3 mph per dragy because of 38 PSI which is still too high for GY F1 Supercar 3R race tires.
      Car seems to behave better as we had it back out at Nelson Ledges Road Course on August 28th and got closer to the track Production car record! Watch for forthcoming videos. Car still does not allow 28 PSI without reducing motor power but does allow 38 PSI now which is better!
      Telsa field engineering is supposed to reach out and has been collecting data on the car. We will do the Texas Airstrip Attack on October 19, 20 and run UGR Lambos and Calvo Vipers in half mile to see how bad the Track Plaid gets beat in 1/2 mile by cars that do over 230 mph!
      My buddy at Indy ASA with a base 2024 Model S Plaid ran a 240 mph R8 and ended up close to even at the 1/2 mile finish line doing 175 mph on 19 in stock wheels. He found a way to game the speed limiter on his base Plaid and get past the 170 mph speed limiter.
      I have now proved my Track Plaid is a consistent 5 mph faster in the 1/2 mile, even with the wheel spin that comes with 38 PSI minimum limitations, because of its 205 mph unlocked top speed. Stay tuned for when Tesla helps me run more appropriate race tire PSI and actually maximize the tire patch and grip!

      Agreed! Except for the 9.4s run those times were terrible for the Plaid and those 157mph traps were wrong too. Plaids have NEVER been recorded going any faster than 153-154mph in the 1/4.

    • @soundofspeed-sos5098
      @soundofspeed-sos5098  3 месяца назад

      We did not make up those times. We had a camera crew right next to the time displays and you can see the times displayed if you have a high resolution TV. Not sure about other plaids - only experience we have is with this brand new Track Plaid. It might have something to do with all the rotational mass we removed from the vehicle.

    Your cheating yourself out of a few tenths by not starting in the lowest suspension setting and using launch mode which lowers the car even more. The current software cuts some power on launch to protect the front cv joints unless you use launch mode.

      Any advice is welcome. We also had 44lbs of air in the F1 super car 3R tires. We wanted to see if you just drove it up to the start line, no prep at all, as if you were on the street what it would do. It also rained three and the runs you see in the videos were done right after the track hosts blew of the track with an air blower. That is why the Z06 that normally does 10.6s in the quarter mile could not get traction. However, we have an Eray being built now so when we get it we will see how that does with all wheel drive. Its should at least deliver consistent times closer to the Tesla.

    Great first visit to the track! You must be pleased with beating some very fast bikes and cars, time after time. The Tesla Model S Plaid even has the ability of beating full-on drag racers like that amazing, race-prepped Hellcat, once you get some more experience under your belt. Try not to compare yourself to the top Plaid racers on the Internet. You beat almost everyone that you raced, and with practice and experience, you will do better still. Many times it is great fun just talking about fast cars with the other racers. Enjoy!

      First time watching. I assumed the driver/ owner was familiar with how the track timing system works. Guys with high performance cars want to compare standing start acceleration but aren’t familiar with drag strips. Off to a good start. Great cars and it sounded like the track was prepped properly. I didn’t watch to the end.

    That h2 is the fastest thing there, bikes usually aren't setup for a hard dig because the just wheelie to much

    • @soundofspeed-sos5098
      @soundofspeed-sos5098  3 месяца назад

      Agreed. We will have a street match in the future and then the reality of the H2's power can be seen. We wanted to do it from a dig knowing that would be a little more fair but with that power its tough for the rider to keep the front wheel on the ground from a dig. We suspect the result will be different on the street. However, please note that none of us know what this track plaid charged to 100% with "peak performance mode" conditioning complete will actually do on track or street. Stay tuned!

    • @soundofspeed-sos5098
      @soundofspeed-sos5098  3 месяца назад +1

      It actually did! Come out to our event and watch. With the pizza pan size, super light, carbon ceramic rotors and six piston brembo's we actually made the 1st exit. We took 100 lbs of rotational mass out of the car with the track package sold and installed by Tesla. We believe that equates to almost 700lbs less mass at speed. It's awesome.

    Roads aren't setup for this kind of acceleration hahaha

    • @soundofspeed-sos5098
      @soundofspeed-sos5098  3 месяца назад

      Faster. This car should do 8.9s to 9.1s consistently once we figure out how to dial it in and get the right weather day, run with batteries conditioned for peak performance, adjust tire pressure for more grip, etc. The more exciting feature of this car is that it can reach 205 mph in a flash and it handles like a cat at over at speeds over 130 mph on track.
      The Roadster which SOS will get when Tesla actually commits to manufacture it will be way faster and more agile. It is allegedly 1000 lbs lighter, has more powerful motors, and with SpaceX technology option is claim 0-60 in less than 1s with top speed around 250 mph. We know its being tested at some private venues but who knows when they will build it.
      You are correct about the roads! That's why all the cars get wheel/tire warranties and 100% PPF including the windshields! Watch for our video on this topic.

      Agreed. Our launches were horrible but we intentionally did not mess with the car. It went from the dealer to the track with no prep of tire pressures and all runs were at less than 90% battery and no run was ever done with the "Peak Performance" battery conditioning cycle completed. Its a really fast car - believe it! We left a lot on the table.
