Despite the controversies around the nominations, I think 2024's been a underwhelming year with many studios being closed, massive layoffs and the gaming releases wasn't as accessible or innovative to sone degree compared to last year which 2023 felt like the year of 2004 for video games. Aside from that, the games I truly enjoyed this year was Tekken 8, ASTRO BOT, Persona 3 Reload, Dragon's Dogma 2, Animal Well and Stellar Blade. Personally however, Stellar Blade is likely my #1 game of 2024 mainly due to the fact I'm a sucker for the art direction, soundtrack, visuals, gameplay and the environments are truly stunning made by a small studio. Looking forward to more games in 2025!
No Man's Sky has amazing community support. The devs actively engage with the fans and update so consistently usually adding content along with big fixes. Also, you can finally have cross-progression. Have the Switch port? Well now you can continue your save on the PC port. NMS deserves the award.
Xenoblade 3 future redeemed should of got nominated last year. What a expansion pass it was. 30 hours n feel like a new game. In my opinion it was better than the main xenoblade 3 game
Having my game of the year not nominated in anything is somehow very liberating. Other than Shadow of the Erdtree, I will be happy to any other games winning. Was also really happy that Unicorn Overlord got some recognition. Other than that, Granblue Fantasy Relink and Romancing Saga 2 Revenge of the Seven (my own game of the year) were the outstanding games that made my year.

FF7 Rebirth, while a remake, offers an expanded and different experience as an actual complete game. Erdtree is just a DLC which you need the main gane to access.

I typically agree with most people on the ELDEN RING DLC! But here is the thing it's SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE! Its a new map, new story, new bosses, New weapons, and even new weapon types. Another thing is shadow feels different is a vertical connected map. I really don't have an issue with it being nominated for game of the year. It's feels like elden ring 2 to me. They spend two years working on it. It was one of the best games dropped this year . My game of the year is black myth wukong.
If you loved Dragons Dogma I highly recommend Divinity 2 The Dragon Knight Saga for the Xbox 360. It is a solid game made by Atlus. The game is a completely different gaming genre compared to other Divinity games in the series.

I played almost all the nominated games for GOTY and I think FF7R is going to take it. It is my favorite for the first third of the game but then it felt like a chore to complete it. My GOTY would be SH2, I don’t get why SOTE got nominated but SH2 didint.

I can see that it's not for everyone. For a former poker player or math/statistics person, Balatro is like crack. It's so fun. Also, the game gets updated at no additional cost or real money involved.
I don't think BO6 has that good audio design, footsteps are barely audible even without ninja perk. This is especially an issue in Warzone but also in MP as well. I wish we also got an FPS or even shooter category, no idea why game awards doesn't have one when it's one of the oldest genres in 3D gaming. I also wish game awards had a ''flop of the year'' category since it became more and more common in recent years for high budget games to fail.
