    think as you wake up,
    I am alive,
    I have a precious human life,
    And I'm not gonna waste it.

    I guess I'm a lucky one because I don't struggle at all to stay sober and don't get strong cravings, but I know how easily I can return to drinking again if I just get drunk that once. I'm only 3 months in but I'm enjoying life without everything that comes along with drinking like: hangovers....guilt....shame.....wasting money....trouble with the law.....trouble with relationships.... the feeling of knowing you are doing the wrong thing for yourself....wasting time, the list goes on and on. I see the benefits far out way any positives of drinking alcohol and once you get your head around societal pressures I think it can be quite easy to stay away from this poison. Just do it people, you won't regret it at all!

    I'm 59 years old. I started drinking young, like 15 years old. I never really drank every day. Just on the weekends. I seldom drank anything during the week, due to my job. But, this weekend drinking went on for 38 years. Then, in September 2013, I decided to completely stop drinking. I've stuck to my promise. I've not had even a small sip of alcohol in about 7 years. I'll never go back to drinking. In my youth is was fun to share drinks with friends and party. However, as I grew older, it was more me drinking by myself. It became depressing, so I gave it up, thankfully no detox required, I just stopped. It was easy for me because I was never addicted to the alcohol. Best of luck to you, alcohol is not needed to have a fun time.

    Thank you for sharing your experience with alcohol. It sounds very similar to my story. After many relapses & me thinking I could learn to drink moderately,……I finally realized that was impossible for me. I am over 2 years sober now & I am so grateful & happy to have my life back in order . I hope everyone that is having problems with alcohol & is watching this video is inspired by it & realizes that there is hope to get sober & have a much better quality of life . 👍❤

I've never experienced physical withdrawals, it's all mental. & I can't have just 1 or 2, it's all or nothing. My husband is getting sick of me, I'm sick of drinking every day! Alcohol is THE WORST drug of all time. It's the only drug that can kill you in three different ways such as
    1) acute alcohol poisoning,
    2) chronic organ failure (cirhossis,liver/pancreas)
    3) alcohol withdrawal (seizure/delerium tremons)

    It gets really scary when you become indifferent. When you know you can't consume alcohol normally and yet you don't care

    • @abby_stewart
      @abby_stewart  7 лет назад +2

      Absolutely. When I drank every day to the point of drunkenness, I knew how much I was drinking compared to the others around me and I didn't care. I used to compete with other men whom I was drinking with too. Some found it impressive that such a tiny young woman could throw back so many drinks. But it's nothing to be proud of anymore, for me at least.

      Chantelle Hart girl, I’ve been in some dark places with booze. I’ve blacked out for nights on end, wet the bed, slept with people I never would have even spoken to otherwise, been violent, and more. I understand the struggle and I understand how alcohol can change your entire way of being. If you really are DONE, then you’re done. I’m just about two months sober currently and I’m never going back. It’s too much of a risk and it’s never worth it. Alcohol has the potential to destroy. It robs you of YOU. It’s never worth it to me. Never.

    0:18 My problem with 'I dont put any mind-altering substances into my body...' is that the statement doesn't make sense, partly because opening the front door and going for a walk is mind-altering. What are both edges (for example: is running 'mind-altering', is food, is sex?) of your description of 'mind-altering' ? Thanks.

      x..2nice4life..y This isn't to put you down, but maybe you are scared to hangout with people who don't drink for fear of being judged. If you surround yourself with people who share the same behaviors as you, you have no reason to question those behaviors. People who don't use anything mind altering probably are doing so so they can grow and focus on more important things. Not to say alcohol can't be used appropriately. But many do not. If you drink alcohol it should not be the focus of your fun. Coming from someone who is about to go into alcohol detox, it can get out of control pretty quickly.

    • @abby_stewart
      @abby_stewart  7 лет назад

      Things can definitely get out of control with alcohol. Thank you for commenting. I was most definitely using it to escape a life I wasn't happy with, feelings I couldn't understand, and a marriage I wasn't happy in. We all have our reasons and our potion of choice. But for real healing, we can't simply abstain from alcohol, I've learned.

    2 months sober for me as well. I went through the cycles too. After a month or a few weeks of no drinking I would convince myself I could moderately drink. Then it would just spiral completely out of control. Over and over again. First time in my life I finally opened up and am seeking help. Each day is different, sobriety sure is a journey. What keeps me away is reflecting back on all the damage I have caused and the HORRIBLE withdrawal phase. That alone is enough to never look back. Slowly discovering the real me. Thank you for this! My thoughts are with you. As a recovering alcohol who switched teams, returned to college and became a certified addictions counselor, the best advice I can give you is that the key to recovery is honesty. Addictions are all about escape, either from ourselves or our worlds. You can rebuild both as long as you are honest.

      Be careful trying to detox from alcohol without medical assistance. The withdrawals can kill.

    I really like you and your story especially because you say you are before 30 and I can relate being around the same age. I have a few friends that are so dismissive about my problem because "you're too young for problems" lol. Leaves me nowhere to go and little do they know I'm a morning starter :( anyway well done and thanks for the video. I shall keep trying!

    Thanks for sharing, I had a very chaotic life in and out of prison, drug dealing, violence etc but I came out of prison a few years ago and my family got me into a teen challenge rehab centre and I have now been sober for 20 months, God bless you. If anyone reads this and is struggling and feels they can't go on then phone a teen challenge centre and speak to someone. There is so much more to life and things can change and you CAN get better, stay safe people.

      Alcohol lowers inhibitions. Many of us break out of our shell and express things we feel at such a core level. My best recovery tool has been tracing back pain and sadness to its root. And the more it hurts, the more I sit with it.

    When I first started AA a few years ago it would bother me when others used the term "Disease" to describe their condition. It seemed to me at the time to be yet another excuse to drink, like it wasnt their fault. Well, IDK about that diagnosis to this day, I don't consider myself diseased but I am an alcoholic. Sobriety was the best thing i ever did and Im proud of it but it is a daily struggle
    Every day sober is one day closer to the next drink. Cunning, baffling and powerful.

    yeh like if you ask me it's "worse" when ppl have got problems with any "drug" (alchol, smoking or heavier drugs) before age of 22.. cos there is no "normal" life to lend back on, like if a 40 y old would start drinking and evolve alcoholism she/he has a "normality" to fall back on. and like a bit easier to say stop to the madness.

    • @abby_stewart
      @abby_stewart  3 месяца назад +2

      I’m not blaming my ex partner, but he did have influence in my life, being that he was 6 years older than me and I was a teenager when I met him. It’s never wise to assume when you don’t know someone’s whole story. I’m only sharing pieces in this video. 😁

    • @ajb7460
      @ajb7460 25 дней назад

      Oh the irony. Sharing some of the underlying stressors that she used booze to cope with is not "Blaming". Quite the contrary, understanding what she was trying to run from, is the most important piece to getting free of the escapism mindset that leads to substance dependence. Clearly she is taking responsibility for herself. "Blaming" is what you just did. (With a lil dose of shaming thrown in for bad measure). Judging a total stranger, who is here trying to help others as she enjoys the process of exploring the new possibilities sobriety unlocks, is cruel. Take responsibility for yourself. Stay in your lane.

    I can totally relate with everything that you're saying in this video. I've been suffering for 10 years. And for the last two years I've been trying desperately to stay sober. I'm on one week sober. And I am determined not to turn back. Because of come close to losing everything. Stay strong. I think to stay sober we have to change our belief system about alcohol and what it truly is. An addictive drug that destroys people's lives

      Try naltrexone. Google LDN, just to slowly get started. AA is not opened minded yet to this. Which anything that can help people get well from addiction should he embraced by all 😀👍 I have started with LDN because I'm very sensitive to drugs and it made me feel I'll. So I started on 5 ml everyday before bed, now I'm at about 15-20 ml at bed. I can't explain it.....it is giving me a choice regarding drinking...where I didn't for a very long time. Im even able to make better food choices. It going very well. And if I do choose to drink I would take 25 ml an hour before. The Sinclair method. Please all people out there... consider Anything to help with recovery. God Bless, I wish all my best.
