  • I made an experiment and measured the fuel consumption of my boat #Reinell2250 with #V8marine Ford Windsor 351 at a constant slow speed. Just 1000 RPM. Actually I made exactly the same experiment last year just at constant 3200 RPM. Here I show how it went and the results.

The cushions look great! Thanks for the fun video. I think I have that exact motor, but mine has a smaller 2 barrel carb, and though I never have measured like you, it doesn't seem too bad. Maybe 30 dollars for an afternoon of fun. I'm sure a newer fuel injected smaller motor would be much more efficient. But, these old boats run well, and are quiet, and don't mind going slow if you just want to putt around. Yours is in such nice shape. You did a great job on her. Where I live people don't usually like these boats, and they end up in the junk-yard or smashed at the dump. I'm glad you fixed yours up! I need a new impeller in mine at the moment. Maybe next week I'll get on that.

Thank you for your comment and good words. I was expecting something like that fuel consumption when buying this boat. It's not cheap to spend weekend with those petrol prices. But I most of all like my boat to have a possibility of sleeping on the water. it's not necessary to go far or do long distant runs. Just enjoy staying on the water. It's like camping. Good luck with the impeller replacement. Check out my #38 part on OMC 235 repair video. Maybe you'll find something useful

@@Dasiukas Thanks! My boat is smaller (Sea Ray SRV190) but, you motivated me to try sleeping on it. It has a full cover if I want but probably wouldn't use, and there is a nice bay close by. I've wanted to do it for a few years - so, you just motivated me to camp - thanks! I think I've seen your video #38, probably a few times. I also need to pressure test the upper, as it gets water passed the seals I think. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm mechanical, but work a lot too, and don't have as much time as I'd like to fix everything. And, summer is short up here in the mountains, with a lot of fun things to do. Gas is expensive here too, so I usually just go to a beach, and kick back for a while, and then go back. Also, my kids are gone, so no tube pulling or water skiing/wake boarding anymore. Take it easy!

@bennyblanko3 You know, we have here a fridge, toilet, gas stove, tap&sink + 70 liter water tank, bow cushions for 2 person and that "sun bed" at the stern + small table, few USB chargers, power inverter DC12V->AC220V. Just all is a bit undersized. It would be a challenge to live there for a week, but great for a weekend. Anyway I encourage you to try sleeping one night in your boat. As you have to choose the right place, anchor properly and spend the night listening to water splashing, rolling on those waves and worrying about all those strange feelings you get. Won't be a deep sleep, but lots of impressions :)
I'm curious what part of the world are you in?

That is a valuable info. To compare I did 55km on 7m boat, 7 people, max 4500rpm, mostly 2800, on 150hp new outboard Evinrude => 70 liters and the waves were 40-50cm.

Your Evinrude is economic beast! My vintage Ford couldn’t catch you! Thanks for your comment

@@Dasiukas :) Evinrude was from the rental. I own 305 V8 5.0 ongoing build on it for the next summer.

@@biuroiprom My Reinell just barely gets into plaining with 6 persons on board. When it gets it goes ok.
