      Power and speed are the ones that go away last when you get old. Look at Floyd's father for exemple, his hands ar still fast even tho he is in his 70s

    • @lincolnpascual
      @lincolnpascual 4 года назад +8

      Tyson has him beat in terms of raw punching power, but Jones ain't no slouch either. If he can control the ring and use distance to his advantage, Jones can take this fight easy. Even in his age Jones still moves fast enough you'll think you're surrounded. Tyson never knew, but he STILL forgot.

They got me reconsidering how to throw the hook, and thanks for the insight at the end. I’ll keep all of this in mind. Tom is a gem when it comes to online coaching, I recommend him to any fighter. Deep boxing knowledge and no gimmicks or BS. Great video and good luck to Roy Jones Jr 👊

    I first learned the left hook years ago from my taekwondo instructor. He taught me to throw it with my palm in and subsequently developed a very good left hook throwing it that way. When I transitioned to kickboxing I had an instructor tell me to throw the hook palm down. Rather than being arrogant and tell them I knew better, I decided to keep an open mind and throw it the way they taught. What happened was I ended up jarring my wrist and had to stop training for more than 3 months. Needless to say I never returned to that gym.

    Shane! Thanks for having Tom and Roy on your channel. Please just leave it with what the time tested experts said and keep the thumb up. Great vid and then you finished it off by saying the palm down is harder? Everyone can make power many ways, but to say that GGG throws a hook like that for power purposes might not be accurate. From my experience as a pro Boxing coach I believe he uses it as a way to come over the guard and slip in hooks that land in unique ways. I would say that is the most definitive use of the palm down as well as just what a fighter does sometimes.
    Watch the top boxers of all divisions (Top meaning the tip top not simply champions like GGG) about 95-99 percent almost exclusively use the standard palm facing you hook and that is the hook we teach.
    Never the less your videos are a great source of content on youtube that are far above the majority of the pack and your contribution to combat sports and boxing is appreciated. You have built a phenomenal brand and much respect!

    I switched from palm down to palm inside after I injured my thumb (mma-gloves with no padding for the thumb) against my partners forearm. I started analysing the pros and cons of both versions and found the palm inside/thumb up to be the best choice for bareknuckle, self defense. The biggest point for me though was that the structure is the same throwing the hook as a palm strike; just open the hand and land with the base of the palm. Same strike.

      @H-town281 A I agree your better off learning both I think when you throw palms down it can give you a chance to frame off your opponent and then maybe even switch stances since you already landed and then throw another shot with your full weight behind it I think Roy’s hook is better for if your just trying to make sure you land your more likely to land if you throw multiple then that can lead up to a combination they both good

      Everyone goes through this. Especially in These times. Focus on something else for a little while and your motivation Will come back. I have went through this about 3 times. I had my first boxing match some weeks ago. It is on my channel check it out if you want to. Keep working hard champ🥊

    • @Au5t1n345

      Honestly motivation is just for the short term. It’ll get u to workout a few times but consistency is key. A lot of people don’t “want” to workout. Just drag yourself through it. Eventually it’s part of your routine.

    • @ethangriffiths7802
      @ethangriffiths7802 4 года назад +1

      You’ve gotta find your spark again. Have a few super light workouts, remember why you used to workout, listen to your favourite music if you have any, think about how good it will feel if you get some consistency back. We all go through especially at a period of time like this but it’ll come back. I believe in you man

      Had a similar feeling today, just get ready for the workout and start doing it. Even if you don’t want to. You’ll feel a lot better. You don’t have to go all out immediately. But once you start you’ll feel so much better afterwards and you’ll want to do it more. Eat some carbs, drink some coffee or something and get your workout stuff on. Put on some music and get going my friend. Good luck 👍

    Makes perfect sense.. because when you’re doing chest fly’s on a weight bench or on a sit down machine, when your thumbs are up you’re working the chest, back, shoulders, & biceps much better than dropping your thumb to the side both the negative & the positive!👊🏼

  • @JeseSavignon

    Thumbs up is also good for getting in between the shoulder and the glove of a high guard and palm down is good for going above the gloves.
