    This is truly a great video ! I don't think I've ever seen any other videos of the engineer at the controls operating Caltrain. There are a lot of Caltrain videos with the railfan window up front, but definitely not many around showing the people actually behind the controls. Awesome stuff !

      There's a train sim that has realistic Amtrak and NJ Transit routes but I mostly use Trainz, I'm mostly using 2019 now, and also have 12, TANE, 22, and a free year of 22 Plus which is normally a subscription. I live on the east coast in eastern PA but I have two female cousins in California, one of them owns a restaurant in SF with her husband, and their parents moved to northern CA they lived in San Jose before and Los Gatos before that. My uncle was my late father's brother, he also had three half brothers who are living. My father passed March 8, 1986 and I lost my mom June 14, 2022 in the hospital because her lungs got worse and they had her on a vent for several days. I never went to California or west of Ohio.

    It is weird watching U.S. cab rides versus Euro rides. The Euro rides are really quiet. You don't have people chattering on the radio. Everything is fairly automated and the rides are smooth and quiet. These rides sound like you are driving a truck down a state road in need of some maintenance.

    Interesting to see an engineer at work. Just a shame that the view outside to the front is a bit restricted, but ok, you can not do anything about that. Did I check it correct that the engineer calls the dispatcher at every signal to say the aspect it is showing? Thanks for sharing.

      The reason this happens is because in the very front there is a door on the first floor, which has a small lock on it, which the wind passes through causing a howling noise, it may also be because the drivers window is open

    Every kid wants to grow up to drive trains for a living. I know I did. But to get job that permits a normal social and family life while not destroying your health is nearly impossible. Whatever they pay, its not enough unless you want to be married to the railroad or transit system. If you are young enough to do it early in your career and then earn promotions, maybe ok though.

    Why do US Train drivers have to keep talking to Dispatch every 2 mins? Aren't they following the Signals? & Can't Dispatch see exactly where they are on their panel or screen? & why are the radios like CB not secure digital radios like they have had in Europe for decades? US Commuter rail is so antiquated!

    • @Orlando_Rails

      That’s a really good question.. I don’t know the answer

    • @average_joe8905
      @average_joe8905 2 года назад +4

      It’s necessary for engineers to call signals especially on commuter lines like this because yes the dispatcher knows pretty much exactly where the train is but now also do other trains and possibly work crews on the tracks ahead. It can seem a little redundant but it is for awareness and safety especially during the rush hours as Caltrain often has several trains running right behind each other.
