- In this realistic Minecraft animation, we see the new Minecraft mob, and also winner of the Minecraft mob vote, the Sniffer. This Animation is pretty wholesome, and Sniffer’s are adorable so that helps a lot. It would be great if RTX did this to Minecraft, but it will be awhile before that happens. Although with the advancement of AI who knows what Minecraft will be able to look like.
Hopefully Sniffers will be added in the new update v1.20, but we’ll have to see. It seems like the main additions to version 1.20 will be camels, signs, and bookshelves, although I’m sure those will all be really interesting too. I’m also looking forward to seeing the Lore Implications that the Sniffers bring to Minecraft. Honestly, between Minecraft live, the new Update, and things like Dream’s face reveal, the Minecraft community has had a lot going on recently. This one was a little bit more rushed than my last one so if you look closely you’ll notice a few issues I’m sure. I tried making this in the same style as my realistic warden animation which you can check out below.

The Sniffer is like the Platypus of Minecraft.
It's a mammal that lays eggs, it looks very strange like a mix of a duck and a hairy cow species, sniffs out plant seeds, has 6 legs... And is the size of a bloody bison which I think is the most horrifying aspect. A platypus is already creepy being the size of a beaver now imagine a giant platypus.
Put a little hat on it and it becomes Perry the Sniffer

I think the sniffer may actually be a highly derived echidna species, pretty similar habits of searching for food, both are mammals that lay eggs (yes, echidnas are in the same family as the platypus, their both monotremes!), and both the sniffer and the echidna kinda have the same sort of body plan, of course the sniffer has 6 legs, idk how it would develop that trait over its evolution.

@@Keeperofsecrets93737, They are a sort of platypus, unlike they're small relatives, they didn't eat insects anymore but they eat planet materials.
I love the sniffer's design. With so many dinosaur or extinct creature designs in fiction artists don't often explore the creativity that you can have with added features that could never be preserved in a fossil. For example if the sniffer were real and if it were discovered fossilized you'd never realize it had floppy ears, a symbiotic relationship with a plant on its back, or its vibrant colors, and its behaviors around seeds, those things wouldn't be preserved very well. And if it were fossilized paleontological artists would make its skin bone-tight considering only the minimum amount fat and muscle around its body, probably making the artist rendering look thinner than it actually is. The sniffer would probably look like a more staut stegasarus without the back spines and a bigger head with a beak in the sketches of paleontology books. Overall a great design to represent extinct species.

@gianmarcoc7186 I wouldn't say "got wrong" but rather we have ideas we can no longer recover so we created assumptions to fill in the gaps. This is true for most extinct species. With the ankylosaurus, we actually do have a pretty well preserved fossil that pretty much shows us almost exactly what they look like, but there are still things lost to time. Such as their behavior, although we can create theories, even the well preserved fossil wouldn't be able to give us all the information we need so we still need to fill in the blanks ourselves.
@portiac6097 I think we would know about their diet of seeds through the fossil record (if we get a lucky fossil with the seeds still preserved in its belly) but not that they have a behavior to dig up seeds like pigs to truffles, or that they have a symbiotic plant on their back. The plants look like a variant of grass or moss, so I doubt it would preserve very well on tar pits or swamps.

Never thought I'd see a sniffer that was both adorable and terrifying at the same time
The first video of yours that appeared on my feed was the Warden one, which I didn't even watch with sound on and it was already super creepy. This one is a very wholesome contrast! Both are absolutely fantastic work, you did such an amazing job translating the funny blocky pixels into realistic looking creatures, not just by making it realistically textured but giving their proportions and anatomy thought as well!

I love paleontology and prehistoric animals and when in that poll an incredible prehistoric creature appears I had no doubts, sniffer automatically became one of my favorite mobs

You know this just dawned on me, Considering the Leaf like fur on its back and the six limbs, what if the Sniffer is a missing link of sorts between mammals and insects
For starters, Six limbs are a common trait among many insects (Excluding arachnids of course) so it could be possible that through natural selection, the sniffer could have grown fur to survive colder climates, Develop a beak to dig in the soil for seeds and slowly transition its exoskeleton into a normal skeleton system.
Only traits that managed to remain is the additional legs and it’s bush like fur used to hide from predators, much like how some insects have developed wing and exoskeleton patterns that look like leaves to blend in with their environment and hide from predators.
this is a really cool theory honestly, like you make a good point that they don't seem to just be normal mammals, and the leaves being a kind of camouflage makes a lot of sense. I'm not sure what the evolutionary advantage of the extra two legs would be though.
@@voxelrainstudios6210 Well I figured that since the Sniffers probably went extinct some time during this evolution, their extra limbs were just a part of their evolution that just never had time to evolve to get rid of the extra limbs from their insectoid ancestors.
But a more logical reason could be that the sniffer’s legs are so stubby that the extra limbs allow for it to support the additional weight.
ok gotcha, that reason definitely works, the weight at the center would probably be pretty rough to carry with out the middle legs. Another possibility is that with out the middle legs they'd probably drag along the whatever surface they're walking on somewhat since they're so low to the ground, and you don't see that much in animals with legs, especially this when they're this large.

It looks like a early version of an already existing animal,kinda like a mix of two animals then throughout evolution they got split making two separate animals, it would honestly be believable if you told me, that this was at some point a real thing, looks cool i like it
