By far Carguru's best journalist. Pacing goes a long way in a presentation. When I watch Mike's reviews I feel as though we are having a casual conversation about the car, as opposed to it feeling as though he is going through a list. His pacing and timing such as his pausing between thoughts is top notch. I believe this guy when he reviews a car! Thank you!
For those complaining about auto-start stop, the module is located in the trunk , under the lid, behind the spare tire, I’m sure. If I remember correctly, you can unplug it.
It's rare for me to comment online. After listening/watching his review, this guy really is negative about all cruze models despite the engine type. Your vibe was way off...like you have a bad agenda. I have both a cruze and civic. They're both very good cars. Interestingly, most people seem to like the cruze better when comparing the two side-by-side. They say the cruze is simply user-friendly. Not a lot of difference in ride comfort. Both engines do fine in their own right. I tend to agree.
Michael Perkins Wow! Thanks for your reply. Since you seem to be sincere in your comments, I'll leave it at that. My apologies for insinuating bias. Take care. P.S.: What do you think of GM vehicles? I've noticed quality up and down their brands.
Of course! My first vehicle was a GM. GMC Sonoma that I put over 100K on. I've owned many GM products over the years, and I've loved them all. Quality isn't something you can really assign to one brand overall any more - there's far too many factors with regard to materials, build location, etc. Even model to model and trim to trim. I grew up in a Ford family, but I still remember when the national sentiment was something along the lines of, "What's good for GM is good for the country." I guess what I'm saying is, I really want GM to be great, but I'm not willing to overlook shortcomings either.
Damn, I have to say, you are easily one of my favorite reviewers. I can't emphasize enough, how much it's appreciated that you truely state your opinion and not kiss up to manufacturers. Your takes are always spot on and elegantly worded. Thank you for this fantastic review
Let’s not bag on the reviewer guys. He’s at least nice enough to read and calmly and nicely reply to comments. He’s not a GM hater. Unless he’s fooling everybody, I think he’s sincere in trying to be honest.
I luv my Diesel hatchback Cruze. What I found is that if you dont gun it or slam on the brake in start-stop city driving. It wont trigger the Start/Stop system to come on. That also doesn't mean you have to drive like an old person. You just need to be less aggressive in your driving habits.
Was your dog in the car with you, haha? I get frustrated with the Chevy options. I wanted fog lights, but you can only get that on an RS version. I wanted the 8” screen, but you can only get that with the sunroof and sound system upgrade. It makes it difficult to get your perfect one that you want, so you settle for lesser features as long as it has the core ones you want.
No Gasoline engine can be more efficient than the Diesels. you can even see 60 MPG (3.9 litre/100km european measures) if you are super careful on the highway with Diesel compact car. But diesel engine produces more hazardous gases and in future maintenance is like $$$.
We have a Mazda 3 2.5 and a base cruze. The cruze is just as quick, altitude here in Idaho. Cruze is quite, way more than Mazda. Gets 10 mpg better. 40 average combine. 50 plus on highway at 70 or below. Auto start wont work if you put it in low, or manual shift mode. Info center is better on chevy even though it's the cheap model. But no cruise control?? Don't know what they were thinking. We prefer the Chevy no problems so far. Cost 17000. Mazda 28000.
You can override auto stop.... switch to L mode, and switch all gears, the transmission will still change gears just as it does in regular drive. Auto stop will not engage. I drive a 2017 LT 1.4 turbo, and it's far from slow, you don't know what you're talking about sir....
Kenneth K that’s cool but there’s also the issue of excess wear and tear caused by these start stop systems. They’re pretty new so it still remains to be seen if this outweighs any gas savings.
The manual diesel does not come with start-stop. I didn't mind the start-stop when I had it on the manual I rented in the UK last summer, but I think it would be kind of annoying day in and day out ... esp in the US you don't get an amber light before green to get the car in gear and go.
I certainly don't mind the auto stop start feature, I think it saves a ton of gas cause every stop light I arrive at just so happens to take the longest. I would love it more if I could turn it off for when I don't feel like having it on. Also I can't imagine the wear it puts on the starter. They better start building them stronger if this is going to become a standard thing in every car.
Auto stop is the worst. However, on 7-29-18 Chevrolet announced the 2019 Cruze will have a switch/button to turn off auto stop. This will be a huge selling point.
Slowest whine in the segment. Mmm hello! It goes 0-60 in 7.4 seconds! Now slow for a 4 cylinder! and besides just because it has a turbo charged engine doesn’t mean it’s gonna be fast. They did that to make more fuel savings more efficient for Chevrolet to put out. If they would’ve put a 1.8 naturally aspirated engine in it would be at 138hp. And if it was a naturally aspirated 1.4 liter it would have 100hp. So hate why hey made it into a turbo so you can get the speeds without having to fully sacrifice the gas mileage. The seats are comfortable in them. I’ve been in one. And the layout for the radio is easy and simple so you won’t be getting confused and it doesn’t look cheap when you have the LS trim. You can’t really tell unless if your so into cars
Typical gm cheapness. Not worth it at all. You can't even get HID or LED beam headlights. Weak engine compared to the Civic, Elantra Sport, ect. Reply new2000car 1 second ago true about the cheapness for the huge sticker price. That's what big government and unions get you. Thousands of dollars per car have to go to benefits, etc., and cannot be spent on better design and interior. TheSolitaryObserver Thanks, man! Appreciated!
Great video! The Cruze is very popular with Kentucky drivers. We like it
You can't have everything. very proud of chevy for making improvements and listening to its comsumers.
I got the LT Cruze with black logo . My first car . 2018 white color. Cost me 23k total with tax and i put down 3k
For those complaining about auto-start stop, the module is located in the trunk , under the lid, behind the spare tire, I’m sure. If I remember correctly, you can unplug it.
The sound on the video is way too low. Felt like he was whisperings sweet little something about the Cruze In my ear
Antonio Avila Wasn't I?

My manual can get 66 on the highway. I love it...
I just purchased a 2018 LT gas sedan for $8250 off MSRP thanks to huge rebates and dealer discounts. Now that's a bargain at $16,935.

She's always with me. And yeah, I hear you on the options. But not just for Chevy. Most manufacturers organize it in a frustrating manner.
Great review as always :)
Malcolm Scott Thanks!
0-60 in 7.6 seconds is slow for the gas model???
That's what I'm saying its also modible and it takes corners fast as hell

Yea very efficient, but Diesel smokes produces cancer
Great review im testing one tomorrow. Hoping its better than the impreza sport 2.0i

you cannot drive a diesel any place with traffic. never get up to the rpm's required to burn off the exhaust particulates.
Get a used Ford Fusion hybrid or Plug in for that price. Same MPG or higher. Much roomier too.
K P and used...
along with the failing transmission and ford lack of empathy after sale.
Is that in San Francisco? It looks like the streets where the movie "Bullitt" was filmed!

They should note in the review title it’s diesel. Anyone know if the manual has start stop? Two birds, one stone if no.
mfmf100 I don't think th e manual trans has auto start stop

Tenho um Chevrolet cruze turbo Ltz sedã 1.4 153 hp Sedã muito econômico anda bem estou muito contente Brasil 👍
The previous generation looked better
This Cruze has a quieter ride and the seats are more comfortable.
Looks good

Why you talking about carbon emmissionz?
Californian
Not worth the money. Better value for you dollar elsewhere in the class. Not exactly a beauty to look at either. Dull.

“Man made climate change”? You just lost ALL credibility.
yes meaning we are significant contributors to climate change did you misunderstand something?
