This movie surpassed all my expectations, which were pretty low. But I’ve been enjoying every new fact about the making of this film because it is so clear that the cast and crew care deeply about the story and the fanbase! I am eagerly awaiting Part Two!
To be fair at first I sort of ignored Wicked, but thanks to you guys I went to see it yesterday (saw it in IMAX) and I had tears in my eyes several times. It truly is phenomenal movie! So thank you! And thank you for this interview, it is just briliant!
EVERY TIME a Wednesday episode drops, I have to take a moment thinking its Friday, and I've lost a few days in the week, LOL Great interview ! Jon M. Chu is an amazing guest, I love it when the interviewees are very generous with their answers and it becomes more of a conversation than an interview.
I was so upset when “In the Heights” didn’t make more money in the box office. It was a beautifully created musical filled with a true love of music, dance, and great storytelling. It really deserves better and I hope the support for Wicked trickles over to In the Heights being rediscovered in the long term.
@@mattiyap i'm on twitter a lot. they make comments about everything. they're going to point out the stereotypes in Africa, the white savior complex, disrespecting religion, etc. I know the musical is very self aware and addresses all that, but fake wokes would ruin it with the lack of critical thinking and performative comments
Wonderful interview… very much looking forward to part 2! Also, that whole Spielberg screening thing is wild! Considering Spielberg mentioned years and years ago that he wanted to remake West Side Story (which he did) and Singin’ in the Rain… I wonder if Spielberg feels time is ticking, and he still has his eyes on remaking the latter? A Singin’ in the Rain remake with Jonathan Bailey as Don, Zendaya (who can sing and dance) as Kathy, Mike Faist (who has a love for tap dancing) as Cosmo, and Margot Robbie/Ariana as Lina would be an interesting cast.
I rewatched In the Heights it’s not as complex a story as Wicked but it’s really nice movie and as a boricua it’s so nice to see all those familiar aspects of culture on the screen.
i really need john m chu to explain the disconnect between elphaba crying in the ballroom scene and her relationship with water. also, it is so frustrating that so few people will know how much went into this movie (though the millions of tulips seems excessive, especially for how little screen time they got. hopefully there are more scenes with them in part two.). like if haters watched this, even they would have to admit it was impressive!
yes and at the same i think they’d have to make substantial revisions to the source material for it to fly with todays audience. the show is reeealllyy dated
I hope wicked 2 have elphaba & glinda makeup & decides to agree to disagree & still be able to coexist in oz town! Fans would like those 2 to be back together in the end.
@camduhn That's actually really smart. It allows the awards campaign for the Oscars to take full effect and so that the marketing for the sequel doesn't affect the overall potential of awards acclaim for the first film. They're being smart with their marketing, the first film will also still be in theaters by that point and isn't set to be released until March 31st. It's going to be around for a while and might make a billion by that point.
This interview was so much fun to watch! You two asked great questions, and Jon is a class act. Bless him and his family as they welcome their new addition! Wicked is already making history and changing lives…for good. 💚🩷
This movie has been feeding alot of souls.I laughed,I cried .I sat in my seat sobbing for 10 minutes after the movie ended. I love watching reaction podcasts with fellow Wicked addicts and one of the responders couldn’t understand why so many people were affected that way so I asked him would you like to know why? He said “sure”.I am in the midst of responding. The authenticity of the entire movie in every facet is overwhelming.

so so happy he's all about making more musicals - imagine getting quality movie musicals for literal decades

As a lover of musicals, this makes me so happy. And gird your loins for Part 2 lol
This interview was outstanding, I learned so many new things that I haven’t heard from other interviews so I really appreciate your questions

Loved these questions. I’ve watched so many of his interviews and this was something new.
His attention to details is insane for a top guy.
I would love to see him direct a movie of "The Book of Mormon".
YES!
oh with the current society i think it better stay in the theaters. i dont want the too woke crowd to ruin that musical for us...
@@bullsharkTMhow would the ‘woke crowd’ ruin the Book of Mormon

@@bullsharkTMyou’re hilarious. The Book of Mormon is literally a satirical musical that makes fun of the religious
OMG thank you for asking about Wicked witch of the east!
Congratulations ReelBlend on this amazing interview!

Great, GREAT casting suggestions
Wow! I'm late to this podcast! I'm a huge fan of Sean, Jake, and Kevin's interviews. Finding out they know each other makes my week!!
Welcome to the show! Subscribe and follow along! Happy New Year
we owe so much to this man... he's a genius
Love how he is backlit during the interview!

A “small world” type ride would have done wonders to inspire a ride at Universal.
Appreciate hearing more in depth of Mr. Schwartz composing the cameo songs.

Great director. Wicked was far better than I expected
What a great interview! Was bummed I missed the concert in Chicago. Bet it was great!
I can’t wait for more!! 🔥🔥
Wow what an incredible moment for him! Them! 9:44
3:42 is good advice on positive thinking
He’s one of the best!
Would love to see him tackle “Miss Saigon”

Miss Saigon is long overdue for the big screen adaptation.
Love the wizard of öz Love the wiz Love wicked ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great interview! Oscar nom pls!

Has there been any official response to why Elphaba's glasses disappear?
Part Two Super Bowl spot loading ...
They might pull it because of part 1 doing so well at the box office and not leaving till after the Oscars.
unfortunately the universal marketing director said that they won’t be doing it at the super bowl “you cant miss us if we’re never gone”
