Picked up a copy this week, this is an absolute belter. Highly recommended to anyone.
I rolled a solo 4 player game, just to learn the rules, finished, then immediately set it up and played again. Played 3 more times straight after.
    Looks absolutely gorgeous too.

Your excitement in this run through is really palpable. Love the theme and artwork as well. Thank you!!

The janitor is an homage to Roger Wilco of Space Quest fame. We bugged the designer until he added it as a stretch goal :P

FishofMuu haha I didn't know that but was wondering if it's the case.
      Love both games

The owner of Thegamecrafter, JT, is the desiger of the captain is dead. He is very active on the tgc chat, and been very helpful for myself and others publishing on tgc.

    The general priorities I use:
    1. Try to fix the core
    2. Enhance crew skills
    3. Put out fires
It is always about how many actions I spend (cost) vs how many actions I would lose if I do nothing (benefit). Actions is the currency of the game.

Color me surprised... I thought there was a good possibility that this might dethrone Pandemic for you. But you've rated it almost 1.8 points lower (out of 10)! In my mind this blows Pandemic out of the water because of the absolutely stellar theme (hehe), branching narrative, and character variety. Also, if you want a harder but not longer game, just randomly remove some of the alert cards from each level (which can increase uncertainty tension) or lessen the number of aliens since running out of either means defeat!

I am considering buying this game after this review but would like to learn more about buying this version versus the original as I would love to also get the expansions down the road.

based on its popularity, you should expect to see expansions for the reprint as well.

New to board games, trying to decide between this, Pandemic and - completely different - Everdell.
Just not sure which one to go with!!?

i'd say pandemic is the best of the 3 (plus it was our gateway game). but everdell might make more sense if you prefer cooperation. captain is dead is a lovely game too, but it is a bit on the long side. if you're SUPER into star trek, it would make sense to pick it though

Since you are on a co-op streak, would you review please "Escape from 100 Million B.C. board game"???

sorry, from what i've seen, that's a game we definitely wouldn't enjoy

Really? If I may ask what exactly turned you off? Was it the theme or a specific mechanic you saw? The game seems to be flying under the radar and getting lots of praise. Thanks

too much dice rolling skill checks for our tastes, i'm afraid....

Reduce game time by setting the Jump core to a higher starting position. Should speed up the game. Granted it should make it easier then too but you could discard some yellow alert cards to increase the difficulty a bit.
One slight negative is that if this is played a lot the Deck could get predictive after awhile. Discarding. I wish there where a few extra cards in each deck which get randomly removed before play, this would keep you on your toes and add some fog to the events.
Anyway this is a great game I've had the Game Crafter version for awhile and wondered when this would get picked up by a bigger publisher.

Seems very similar to Star Trek Expeditions, does it scratch the same itch (how do you justify keeping both)? Only thing that stands out to me is the board, makes my eyes bleed...seems like boardgame designers too often overlook the value of good UX design.

as co-op games, they've got pretty different feel and mechanisms. ST:E is surprisingly ameritrash-ey, while CiD is very euroey

I can't watch Rahdo before bed, but he's one of my most trusted (if not most-aligned, taste-wise) reviewers. RUclips is pretty good at suggesting people to watch, but off the top of my head, I like Slickerdrips, shut up and sit down, no pun included, jon gets games, man vs meeple, and drive thru review (my personal fav.)
