Isle of Whithorn is one of Scotland's southernmost villages and ports, not to be confused with the similarly named Whithorn village, which is located a little further north. Locally, it is almost always referred to as "The Isle" and almost never the Isle of Whithorn. Actually, its name is a bit misleading, because today it is not a real island, but it is still listed as an island on older maps. At that time, today's main street was a causeway, and the harbour was located on the island.
