  • To determine the pH of lemon juice we'll use pH paper. Before we test the the pH value for our lemon, we'll make sure our pH paper is accurate by testing it with Hydrochloric acid, a neutral buffer solution, and an alkaline solution of Sodium hydroxide.
    On the pH scale the HCl is red, the neutral buffer green, and the NaOH is purple. When we test the pH of the lemon juice we get an orange color. This corresponds to a pH of three on our pH scale. So lemon juice has a pH right around three.
    When I tested lemon juice with a pH meter I found it to be 2.76 which is similar to our finding with pH paper. This value likely varies depending on the age of the lemon and the characteristics of the particular type of lemon. But these numbers are close to the reported values for lemon juice in the literature.
    So in answer to our question, lemon juice has a pH of around three making it acidic.

      @@cillavalene9288this comment is mostly true because it can only be alkaline after digestion due to the activation of pepsin which makes the lemon alkaline/neutralized

    Thank you your videos are so helpful, I have a question what elements or equation would give you the products of ammonium sulfate and tin (ll) carbonate

      Looks like a double replacement reaction so you would must switch the positive ions (the NH4 + and Sn 2+). But make sure you charges balance with the new compounds.

    Hi Dr. B! I ran across your video while researching some conflicting reports on lemon juice...mainly it is acidic but becomes alkaline in the human body once metabolized. Do you know if this is true? Or is this "internet fiction?" LOL

      Skin whitening?? Useless!😂 Why use nature to dilute what you are? Your Skin is the color it is, for a reason.😂

    Mainly acid citric acid, so pH should be close to pKa

      I believe 6-7% of a lemon is citric acid, so quite a bit.

    I hv a question if lemon has ph 3 i.e highly acidic then why doesn't it burn our tongue when consumed ?

    • @cyanide-e2b
      @cyanide-e2b Год назад

      It is 3 so it will take approximately 1 to 2 minutes to burn your tongue....put only lemon drops into your mouth till it is full then wait for 2 minutes the result will appear
