  • To determine the pH of lemon juice we'll use pH paper. Before we test the the pH value for our lemon, we'll make sure our pH paper is accurate by testing it with Hydrochloric acid, a neutral buffer solution, and an alkaline solution of Sodium hydroxide.
On the pH scale the HCl is red, the neutral buffer green, and the NaOH is purple. When we test the pH of the lemon juice we get an orange color. This corresponds to a pH of three on our pH scale. So lemon juice has a pH right around three.
When I tested lemon juice with a pH meter I found it to be 2.76 which is similar to our finding with pH paper. This value likely varies depending on the age of the lemon and the characteristics of the particular type of lemon. But these numbers are close to the reported values for lemon juice in the literature.
So in answer to our question, lemon juice has a pH of around three making it acidic.
