- 'Bike' is a song written by Syd about his current girlfriend, Jenny Spires (as well as 'Lucifer Sam'). He's showing her his things such as his bike, a cloak, a homeless mouse named Gerald, and a clan of gingerbread men, simply because she understands it (fits in with his world). Towards the end, she offers to show Syd a room of
"musical tunes."
The sounds you hear at the end of the song are assortments of percussion instruments and violins, as they are in the room of "musical tunes." At the very end, you hear not 'duck noises', but sped up laughter.
The end of the video says Random Noises. These noises are not random. They are the chimes and jings most of them are clockwork. They just went into the other room and made them work.
Jonathan Buel Hahaha :D I guess so :D
That outro creeps me out first the song starts out nice but than children's nightmare I love this song
The other room was occupied by the Beatles recording Lonely hearts
My dad is disturbed by the end, he says it sounds like someone going insane and laughing maniacally,, which is creepy because syd went off the deep end soon after this was published, almost like he knew
my grandmother loved this song!
Oh well,What can I say?I love the song to.Did many trips while playing this song!!!!
if I had a song that perfectly described my mental state, this would be it. ^_^ thanks for the lyrics!!!!
You are in good company my dear friend
I somehow convinced some of my friends that this is my favorite Pink Floyd song. this song is in my top 5 though.
I bought a bike today and this song was in my head the whoooole time. Then I came home and my house mate told me we have a mouse in the kitchen. "IT'S GERALD!"
Haha XD
Tchikanii lmao!!! I just looked this up to show my husband because we have a mouse in our bedroom who taught himself how to actually play my son's guitar, and of course I named him Gerald 😂😂😂
I soooo want that sign!
Gerald has joined the server.
Strange song!! But I like it! I must admit the weird laughing at the end freaks me out!!!! = D
Syd is offering to show a girl his bike, cloak, mouse, room of musical tunes because she fits into his world. All of the randomness at the end is reffering to the "other room". And that "duck noise" people are commenting about is actually sped up laughter. It was written for Syd's girlfriend. Sorry if i was too late on that ;]
It's about a Boy and girl. She on acid, describing what she knows, while Syd, or the boy, is awestruck by her beauty that he can't even listen. Until they enter the clock room. Then they're just going insane.
The people who say it's not good just don't really understand it.
Which makes sense if your new to Pink Floyd.
Steve-0-tron Actually it was the first pink floyd song I ever heard and I loved it to my core. I don't why Syd is hated on so much, I love Piper At The Gates Of Dawn probably as much as any other mainstream PF album.
Love the song
Love to the videos with lyrics in a timing. Nowadays everyone with an device including a mic is aware of the heavenly favour these videos provide.
love this so much esspecialy the last verse. so very pink floyd.
The ending of this song reminds me a lot of the ending of a day in the life by the Beatles in which it ends with a repetition of something
Yep
Seeing how Syd loved cartoons so much...Gerald...Tom and Jerry? Waters et all lifted this finale and slotted right into the intro to "Time"
listen to the song backwards
Hard to think of this song without thinking of Albert Hoffman's Bike trip
I like this song mostly because my name is Gerald.
I Love Gerald.
I see your usernames is Seamus, another Pink Floyd reference
I don’t like seamus too much probably my least favorite of the album
I bet you’re a good mouse too
I remeber finding this song on my iPod... three years ago i was ten lol... i FREAKED out because i was OBSESSED with the name Gerald!
I looked this up to show my husband (& so he could finally hear it lol) because we have a mouse in our bedroom who taught himself how to play a guitar and I thought he deserved to be named Gerald lmao... Oh... And if the only damn Floyd songs that you know are "Shine On" and "Comfortably Numb" then you should not be allowed to comment on anything associated with the band. Just saying...
Alana Moreland LOL don't you know about the Rh O negative bloodline Tuatha de danann, Monotonically gold Ormus annunaki, check out the bloodline of Charles B Davenport, careful with that axe eugine, C60 carbon you know that do you ???,, Nikola Tesla vortex maths 369 you know that do you???.... gotta love Crowley invertion of everything I call monkeys like you WETWEAR.....better call the pole ice , not that you will have a clue what iam on about 😂😂😂 LOL do you get it , money keys 😂😂😂 Gotta love gingerbread 99

This makes a person sit down and think about it.
thanks man !
when i first heard the song i thought it was weard,
but its just different..
Hehe I love this song
I was a little surprised this was voted the second worst Pink Floyd song. Its weird but a good weird.
i think its just people who listen to pink floyd dont listen to syd's pink floyd
Daniel Siegel What? This isn't bad. Those people just haven't tried LSD before.
Loved this song since I was a kid .
some people are phillistines when it comes to music ,they are better off on the wand erection channel
What was the first worst?
And of course the great Fortran 5 did a cover of this in 1993 where they sampled loads of Sid James speech snippets to re-create this song with Sid James 'talking' the lyrics that Syd Barrett once sang....fitting tribute it was too
i love this song it sounds like some little kid is saying about everything he have
the Endings not random the ending is what they're doing because he said let's make them work so that's what they are doing that is the noises your hearing
Thank you all for Teaching ME to READ Spell & SMILE. I was TORN between a Rock & an Island in the streem… xXx
why do none of these bike songs on YT have the bicycle bell ringing at the beginning? !?!?
i love the part about the gingerbred men
Awesome
Yay! That's an awesome thing to do a report on! ;] Great Job MalLover12-San.
gerald brought me here..
Me and my friend were playing hockey at school and we called the ball Gerald
You know i love Pink Floyd and Syd, but sometimes i have been like man why all this fuss about Syd, is it because he was schizophrenic and his story is sort of mystical? but then i listen to a song like this written by him, and i realize, damn his simplicity and uniqueness is quite awesome, fucking rocks! i dig, Syd, i dig man... RIP
This is coming from a true, true hard fan of Pink Floyd, when i was 17, i worked just so i could buy all their albums, and bought them all (;
Thanks Pink for leaving a nice wake on my lake.
From one true Floyd fan to another, I understand your sentiments concerning Syd's Floyd. I intend no disrespect but feel that the Gilmore/Waters/Wright/Mason version was far superior. I feel sorry for the way Syd's life turned out but I'm schizo as well and no one cuts me a break when considering the art I produce. Understand I'm not feeling sorry for myself. In fact, I wouldn't want my condition to affect a person's opinion, good or bad, about my work. But, unlike you, I can't get on board with this song and others attributed to Syd. So, why am I here? My best gal does like this song and other Syd compositions. And for that reason I can say with all sincerity, Syd rocks!
Jason Sheppard Actually, neither Pink Floyd lineup is better or inferior. They're just different with a different approach. I'm a 60s kid who saw a lot of different psychedelic bands in SF from 1965-69 and none were the same. The latter lineup had a more serious polished sound whereas when Syd ran the band, it was more childlike and fairy tale sounding. I love both, as both are excellent and full of creativity. As for me, I wish I could be back in 65 much more than I wish I could be back in 75, but that's just me.
I won't call myself a true Floyd fan, but fact is, that Syd brought PF to fame quite before his schizo kicked in, long before there was anything mysterious about his life. Me myself enjoy his work very much, deffinitely more than last 3 albums with Roger at helm
I just played this to my 🐁Gerald I think he likes it 😎💚🤟
What up Gerald!!!!✌ He's a good mouse
this is syd barett
the spiral of coming off of acid in the end
Haha.
Yeah well Pink Floyd is very strange. O.o
Especially with Syd.
Well and without him too. =]
LOL thanks xD But this song is awesome! Only Syd could get away with writing this "I don't know why I call him Gerald!" if I get a mouse I'm anming it Gerald
20 people don't ride bikes.
Fucking great song, fucking acid is the cause of having such great songs....thank u acid lol
@MalLover12 i also did a report of Pink Floyd in english and my teacher also liked this...
I actually like this song!! So much hate -_- but... I love Syd!!!
Yeah miss syd
Lol...Yaaaay! =)
Where would we be without acid, man!?!!
=]
wie maakt nog eens zo iets geweldigs
@945pie
Syd Barrett, the guy before David Gilmour and the person singing this song ...
Gerald
Totally reminds me of the Beatles
Peyton Olson believe it or not, the Beatles were inspired by Pink Floyd and not vice versa.
And so he went into the other room and got lost among clockworks, nobody saw him after that, do you think he is still playing in the other room?.
Syd's mouse lives on Twitter.
Down the dish !
fucking amazing
careful with that ax eugene. careful.
Solid advice. 🪓
Lol no it's not ducks. It's sped up laughter. Haha.
@killer1055 Yeah, and what made Syd go crazy :(

at 2:00, they really are just random sounds...

i have to know it for my class..
pink floyd makes my world go round. ...
=] they wouldnt be the same without the acid.
and all the other drugs. :D
@MalLover12 you said you had to write about what the lyrics meant... i'm just curious... but what did you say? i cant really think of anything that it could mean... :/
@pownzor93
it's musique concrète
