I used to have a 1976 Porsche 914/4 2.0. I loved it. The 70's 914's were made by Porsche. Mine eventually caught fire. I would love to own one again. Thank you.
My friend had one of these in high school. Was always a treat to get a ride in it. If the road was clean and tires were warm he said he could take a right hand turn at nearly 90 km per hour! Not sure if he ever did that but it felt like it was on rails and you felt like you were sitting 2 inches off of the ground. Just don't drive it in the rain or the idle would be poor.
Very few came with the flat 6 and suffered from a lack of power. In a "spirited" drive up a narrow winding road in Vermont there were 2 BMW 2002's and a 914...he was left far behind even though it was a far better handling car. A short while later he got a 911.
The purist 911 owners thumbed their noses at any 914 even the 6 cylinder cars. Since the popularity now in the past few years most Porsche owners especially 911 owners have accepted the facts they are true Porsche cars. Back in the late 70's when I owned my 6 I was always reluctant to take mine to shows because there was always that one guy that would make the negative VW comment. Times have changed.
When i was a kid and they were new i always thought the 914 was butt ugly and hated them. Now i still think they are ugly but can appreciate them a bit more.
I love the idea of this car, especially the handling 😮 and I have a matcbox version of it, but my standard Isuzu twin cam 1800cc Aussie/Japanese 4cylinder rally car does 0-100kms in 7 seconds flat, so how could a Porsche 2L flat six be so slow in a car lighter than my Japanese 1070kg Gemini?
I tell you what if you dress these up a little bit and either swap the engine off a more modern one or amp up the one it came with then you've got one fantastic driver's car.
If I to spend that much 😢 I would buy a brand new Aerial Atom, that floggs that by light year, including Konigsegges...up to 250kms/h at least, but it's funny how much people will pay for inferior technology 😅 but I still like it and would want to have one, since I am an engineer and my business is about increasing performance and using turbos 😅😅lol
Once it had 6 cylinders, it was not a '914', but a "916", and it was a Different Beast at that point (although, the 2.0 914 was Very Spirited!). I know, because, my v-4 Sonnet could not catch a 916, unless it was Snowing on the Roads (or, it was Spring-time's MUD season), with the Saab's 77%G cornering, even with the Lockheed brakes upon a lighter car. The 914, I could match/catch/pass along VT's Rte 100 or Rte 30,but the 916 could 'step-away', but not easily. If the Road was 'Soft', be it Dirt, Mud, Slush or Snow, I had the better car, with the FWD and centered drive axles- [no Torque-Steer here!] -in those conditions, but that still didn't match the 916 in Power/Speed. I think the best I wrung outa a Sonnet was 117 mph, on Rte 7. The 914/6 was a fast, Great-Handling, agile car, and it is WAY underestimated to this day! This one wonders, what 'if; Audi had dropped the 5-Cyl, w/Turbo from a Quattro into it??!!
its so Fkn ugly it makes a TR7 look beautiful it's an ABOMINATION and should never have seen the light of day, a lot of these prams were converted to Harley trikes
Back in the 80's my brother got a 914 from an elderly neighbor, and I asked why so many things were labeled VW! But what a neat car!!!

Back in the 70’s I was in high school. I wanted a Porsche 914 SOOO BAAAD!!!!!
I had a 70 914.. very fun little car! .. I could take any turn at any speed pretty easily

I had the Fiat X1/9, kind of a similar looking car back in the day.
I had a 1971 911 T and a 1970 914 and the 914 was every part a Porsche.
Tried 2 of these before buying a 94 Miata. Really pretty but both the engine and gearbox feels like.... an old Volkswagen.

On a technical level this is the best handling car earth😮
The rich mans Karmann Ghia.
The two door Mazda 929 only imported to Australis. Was this car sold as a Mazda abd what was this models name?
Underrated for a reason. In Classic racing in Europe they are the slowest Porsches on the track.
1:52 That's a tongue twister alright 🙂
It reminds me of a Toyota MR2.
It should be the other way around. The mr2 came much later
@@Dumbo3.1428 sure, the MR2 must have gotten the idea of the mid engine from Porsche by that time.
I can’t justify why!?, yet it’s a good looking little car. 👌

I personally like the 914 model, but it’s a little tight in the interior space.
The interior is as roomy as a bowling alley compared to a Boxster.

It's not difficult. It's pronounced "vertriebsgesellschaft". 🌝
It should have been a VW, not a Porsche.

Cool Porsche, ❤❤❤❤great video thanks ❤❤❤❤
a 6 cyl 914 is a 914 6 not a 916 a 916 is a very rare model in its own right and has a non removable roof plus other things.
VW, Porsche, doesn’t matter, it’s a toad.
@@joshualamp2438 Kiss it!!!😂
Unpractical like hell.
im not even trying to pronounce this :D :D :D
It's a real Porsche 😅no doubt! No VW has the engine in the right place in front of the back wheels😅
K swap it with a big turbo.
AHhh.... unless its got a flat-6 in it..... its a stinkin' VEEDUB. A few did get real Porsche flat-6 motors.
its so Fkn ugly it makes a TR7 look beautiful
it's an ABOMINATION and should never have seen the light of day, a lot of these prams were converted to Harley trikes
Perché è brutta di estetica e carente di prestazioni
