    To put a finer point on it, VR isn't ever going to be mainstream in its current form. There's just too much of a leap. AR on the other hand has at least some potential albeit it also suffers from the obtuse nature of the bits that make it up like the headset or glasses and the raw compute power it needs to produce a compelling experience outside of enthusiast gaming simply isn't there. Maybe in a couple decades but even that's a stretch. Here's a milestone to look out for. When school children are using VR and/or AR in their daily routine with cheap commodity wireless hardware; then it might work as a mainstream idea outside of R&D, professional applications and gaming.
