I have some of the most beautiful fabric that I purchased in East Berlin (before the wall came down). It has a delicately hand embroidered bottom on a silk fabric that’s meant to be made into a long skirt. I’ve never used it because I’m afraid to ruin it and I know I’ll never have such a gorgeous piece of fabric again. I just bought larger bins for my stash, and after I moved my yarn over I told my husband "look, I can now fit it in 2.5 bins instead of 4!" He was like, does that include all the yarn in vacuum bags under the bed?....ermmmmm 😅
My grandma would crochet blankets in her recliner and my grandpa used to knit blankets in his recliner. She would make glorious tight crochet patterns of 2-3 colors each. My grandpa would make his simple striped patterned soft relaxed blankets out of my grandma’s yarn scraps. Those two would sit there for hours at night just working away on their blankets. ♥️
It makes sense to create a small version of your project. Some would call it a swatch gauge. I do that for my baby blankets and I still have some of them. Every so often I take them out and think about who I made them for. ❤️

Lmaooo this is a great explanation of exactly what’s been happening to me..I’ve reached the hoarding phase and never finishing projects phase and I’m like 3 months in 😂
😂 i love the emphasis added on those last 2 words, and the way I read that in my head made it so much funnier- but also, because I too have a serious problem (not yarn... nail products, acrylic pots - theyre fucking EVERYWHERE!!!! AND I WANT MORE! Gotta collect em all, right? 🥺)
My husband told me I have too much yarn. I vehemently disagreed. He said prove it. I said fine. So, I have been going from room to room getting my yarn out of my yarn stash locations, and putting them in a large tote. Tote is full to bursting. He said, 'See! You have too much yarn!' I took a picture and sent it in a group chat to his mother and aunt and all my crafting family members. All sent back confirmations that I, in fact, DID NOT have too much yarn. That there is NO SUCH THING as too much yarn. And threatened to send me more. 😅 He conceded, after I made a shirt saying 'It's not hoarding if it is yarn', that he was wrong. But we made the agreement that I need to use at least HALF of my yarn stash before I can buy more. 😅 lmao
It's comforting to me to know that I'm not the only one who feels they may end up on the show Hoarders just for the amount of yarn in my stash or the number of projects sitting in storage.
This is exactly why I make mini crochet patterns! I cannot sit for more than an hour or 2 crocheting the same thing, and I want to be DONE with it by the time the movie is over! Every crafter has a huge stash...no shame! You're helping the economy when you purchase yarn AND think of THIS: without hoarders there would be no pickers to find treasures (future antiques & archeology)! So you're really part of the great crafting- thrifting-antique-archeology pipeline!🎉❤
I had neighbor with same "mini" issue😂 she ended up sewing them all together and created like 4 really beautifully cool couch blankets! Awesome gifts. She let each person pick the one they'd like to keep and she kept the last one. It became a regular "mini" thing😅😂

I started crocheting only 2 months ago. I bought a woobles kit and I’ve bough 1-2 every week since. On top of every single color of yarn (sometimes more than 1) I have multiple books with patterns. And my entire Google search and bookmark pages are patterns lol I seriously don’t think ppl who don’t crochet know how incredibly addicting it is. I have so many amigurumis that I literally don’t have anywhere to put them. It’s time I start a bigger project lol
I'm in my mid sixties and recently was diagnosed with ASD. Crocheting is such a blessing for my mind/brain. It makes my life calmer, easier and happy. Plus, YARN!!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
I feel the same way. I have a habit of letting inspiration and motivation lead me to starting projects. Unfortunately, once the passion dies down, or a distraction appears, the project gets shelved until I can remember to finish it.
That’s actually how you’re supposed to crochet. Most patterns have instructions for it. It’s called a gauge. It’s not usually so big (5x5 in most I think) but it helps you determine the right tension to match the pattern. So you stumbled into the proper technique actually. 😆👌
It's an addiction! I found this adorable pumpkin pattern and just HAD to make a blanket out of it. Now I'm half way through the blanket and realizing that I don't actually want it, I just wanted to try it........
You remind me soo much of my wild, young-acting texan Memaw, it's so comforting to watch your videos! As someone with ADHD, you give off relatable vibes
How many ppl would love your beautiful crocheted blankets and also the minis for the little kids that cover their stuffed animals and dolls. My mother use to sew mini outfits for my Barbie dolls. Sweet memory for me. Elyse your brain is brilliant. And you are very witty!
I’ve heard of someone keeping a swatch of their work along with a picture of the finished product with its giftee and keeping both in an album. That way you might only fill up a bookshelf instead of a whole room!
The struggle IS real. I feel your pain as I sit amongst all the pretty yarn I’ve bought, fated to be unfinished projects… It is what it is and it could Definitely be worse. ❤
And when I go into a craft store I have to "check out the yarn" and 'I promise I won't take long" meanwhile 2 hours later I'm still there smiling and dreaming of playing with the yarn
I use to work at Michael’s and restocking the yarn was always such a mountain to climb because it would always come undone and you would have to somehow have to make it look shopable again. 🤣💀⚰️
I used to work in a nursing home with a veterans and if you make lap blankets enough to cover your lap in your legs then you can donate them there to a nursing home for the residents at Christmas time they always love to see the different colors

While we frequently find ourselves in the hoarder category, we also know that we frequently can’t remember what we did yesterday or our spouse’s name - I fully support a mini library of your works.
@@itslinziwalker Do you think making prototypes would work? So if something goes wrong with an idea, you can fix it then instead of using up the nicer fabric. At least if it's more of a "don't want to waste it" instead of "save it, maybe I'll come up with an even better idea for it later"
this is the most relatable thing i have ever seen in my life. from the giving someone my money for pretty yarn i saw to having mini versions of every project i want to do. i fear i am also capable of being on hoarders.
Elyse. As a full time crocheter you have my and all the other crocheters blessing and permission to go buy more yarn. There’s a whole empty wall behind you for yarn shelves. Go shop, you just pushed a whole human out of your body. You deserve it. Call it your push present.
Soooooooo as an avid yarn rescuer (crocheter) we call those mini versions a sample!!!!! And it is a fantastic piece to add to a binder or something along with the pattern, so that when trying to decide what to make next, you can go back through all your patterns and the accompanying sample to see what tickles your creative fancy!
OMG that's exactly what I've been doing for years 😂 I always make a mini blanket of all the blankets I make 🥰 I can make another blanket out of all the mini samples I have and I can remember the blankets I've given away 🥰
Girl I feel you, EVERY time I go to Joanne’s I’m always wanting WAY MORE yarn, 😤EVEN though I’m supposed to get safety eyes, or something else. Either way, I never leave a craft store without just one ball of yarn😅😫
Highly relatable! I have your same issues with adhd and ocd and I bought so much yarn and got into crocheting, my thing is I can’t finish any projects. I get all these great ideas, start them and get bored. But I have a two huge bags full of yarn under my bed and one in the closet. They have to be stored in something with a zipper that the cats can’t get into cause my cat ate yarn once cause I left it out and it was a $4,000 vet bill 💀😀
@christykaderman6484 no. That's not the problem, but thank you for the help. My problem is literally the finishing, almost like I have a pathological avoidance of it.
My husband is a minimalist and I... am not. I was raised by abusive hoarders who never let me throw anything away because "you never know when we'll need it." That gave me a false sense of scarcity that still plagues my every decision despite years of therapy. But it's okay, because I found a loophole: if I just turn everything into artwork, I can put it on the walls and call myself a "maximalist." Bonus: everyone thinks I'm so creative and artistic. Turning lemons into lemonade! 😂
It never ends. I have so much yarn, and I keep buying. Then, I found a hoodie on Etsy that says, "I collect yarn like I'm immortal." I barely restrained myself from buying that too. Add to that my jewelry making supplies, miniature painting supplies, dice collection, and costumes... I'm already there with you on hoarders.🤣 P.S. Somebody please stop me, but really... don't.
It gets worse, too! I couldn't find a color I wanted so I got into yarn dying. And then I couldn't find the appropriate blend of cashmere and silk, so I learned to spin. And weave. Then I needed to learn leatherworking to get the straps and belts just right. And somehow, over the course of the last 30 years of fiber arts, I have ended up with multiple rooms full of spinning wheels, looms, sewing machines, fibers, and crafting supplies?? My advice is just to accept your fate and acquire an understanding spouse.
The fact that all the yarn you own fits in thar small bin shows great self restraint, in my opinion. 😃
right? my sister has a bookshelf of the fabrics she bought, and that's AFTER she cut down on adding to it. pretty sure she even sold some.

You know you're screwed if you do both sewing and crocheting, because you have double the stuff laying around😂
it resonates with me, a visual artist, too ... on so many levels ❤❤❤
Same 😂
It’s adorable that your stash fits in one box you can lift with both hands😉😉😉
Loooool... so true
I keep mine in vacuum bags...so I don't really have That much lol
Right? She’d be on the show mini hoarders
I just bought larger bins for my stash, and after I moved my yarn over I told my husband "look, I can now fit it in 2.5 bins instead of 4!" He was like, does that include all the yarn in vacuum bags under the bed?....ermmmmm 😅
😂😂😂😂😂 I have an ottoman full and I've recently sold loads too and more around in other storage boxes and bags in the cupboard. Help!
As someone who probably has like 12+ garbage bags of yarn, I truly think that you have great signs of restraint. You are now my role model xD
Now that is relationship goals.
Need me a freak like that
That's true love
That’s adorable 🥹
@@thefudgemsdid you just QUOTE CHIKN NUGGIT?!!??!!! CAN WE BE FRIENDS?!???!
It makes sense to create a small version of your project. Some would call it a swatch gauge. I do that for my baby blankets and I still have some of them. Every so often I take them out and think about who I made them for. ❤️
The face of sheer glee about displaying every mini project, i felt on a deeply person level

You are all of us who are learning how to crochet. First week is a crisis over counting and a few months later, we are swimming in yarn and ideas.
I've been curious to learn to crochet but now I'm scared to, I'm not sure I can make that much commitment to start collecting yarn 😂
Been crocheting for 20+ years... the yarn makes great bedding... just saying 😂
Been crocheting since I was 7... Have some yarn that I purchased 20yrs ago 😂
@@phoenixl7948find a project and ONLY buy for that project. When you're done, repeat.
Lmaooo this is a great explanation of exactly what’s been happening to me..I’ve reached the hoarding phase and never finishing projects phase and I’m like 3 months in 😂
Aw that tiny basket of yarn is adorable. You don’t want to see my yarn CLOSET, ELYSE.
The stack of space-bags full of yarn in my closet 🙈
😂 i love the emphasis added on those last 2 words, and the way I read that in my head made it so much funnier- but also, because I too have a serious problem (not yarn... nail products, acrylic pots - theyre fucking EVERYWHERE!!!! AND I WANT MORE! Gotta collect em all, right? 🥺)
Or all my yarn!!!😢😮😂😂😂❤
😅 lmao
@@PaymeinTacosI need a shirt that says this, but with garden/ canning supplies
The “not buying more yarn until I use up the ones I have” is exactly like me but with books instead 😂
I have so many mini triceratops now it’s insane but ALSO have all my Xmas gifts done for everyone in the entire neighborhood now!!
Christmas tree ornaments??? It would be so cute😊

This is why we have the term SABLE (stash acquired beyond life expectancy). I am in that category. I love the sensory experience of the yarn itself so much, it's a hobby in itself.
Also, I love you, Elyse.
I like that term. It really hits home. 😂
It’s my longevity plan (screw exercise and good diet). I can’t die until all of my projects are done! ICDUAOMPAD
My mother felt about yarn the way some people feel about homeless animals. She had a whole bedroom dedicated to her yarn rescue efforts. 😆
Your words hit every part of my soul. 😂
The fact that your yarn can fit in one bin is impressive. I’ve got 3 drawers full with some in some bins for later 😂
She'll get there. Slowly, with patience, like we all did😅🫣
And now i have a closet full. 😂
Relatable 😂😂😂
I can't stop buying yarn lmaooooo
Being an adult with adult money is a mistake
Closet bin here.
Mine is in a whole bunch of drawers in my 12 drawer organizer (3 of which have a purpose and are staying that purpose and 1 that’s empty rn but will soon be full) and also has spread to a basket on my desk
Girl, don't say that, that's only fueling my problem and emptying my wallet 😭😭
When she held up the little blanket I thought “oh my goodness that’d make such a cute top!!”
That was my exact thought, too!
Same!!
I thought she’d made a crochet bustier.
Me too! Reminded me of the 70’s.
I totally thought it was intentionally a top at first!
My aunt has walls full of yarn.... I never judge her, but I also couldn't understand..... until I recently started crocheting😅 now it makes sense.
I had neighbor with same "mini" issue😂 she ended up sewing them all together and created like 4 really beautifully cool couch blankets!
Awesome gifts. She let each person pick the one they'd like to keep and she kept the last one. It became a regular "mini" thing😅😂
I love that you've accepted your craft fate. Knowing is half the battle. 😆
Welcome to life as a crocheter! You're following in our collective footsteps. We're all here for you.

glad the algorithm brought this video back to me a year later so i can once again laugh at myself and my problem hoarding beads and other art supplies 😭🤣😭
Your happy face at the idea of minis brought me so much joy. All the joy. It resonated with my soul.
Yarn Hoarders!
You are not alone.
I do this with quilt fabrics, too.
Great blanket!
Yarn Is Peace. ☮️❤️
Girl you just don't know the amount of joy i get just by listening you talk about literally anything... Love you and i think it's a great idea to have mini versions of each piece you crochet---->>>pure genius
Take a 📸 of your finished projects you can then make a SCRAPBOOK with pics, descriptions, yarn samples and thoughts before, during and after each finished project. 😀
Crotchet is one hobby. Buying yarn is a second hobby ❤
😅
Exactly
And rolling around in it all after you buy it is another 😁
You are hilarious, love your logic of non - logic brain chatter , I thought I was the only one who goes through such back and forth brain banter. Now I know iam not alone. Warms my heart and gives me permission to be creative on all levels

Yesz but you cant touch a photo. Different experience
That's what I do with my kids 'art' they love the book and my fridge is clear
@marcellafernandez2166 she could put scraps of all the yarn she used In the book though.

Look up random crochet kindness, There are many different sites. You leave little crochet toys around for ppl to find and brighten their day.
You could always crochet cubby boxes to put all of the amigarumis you've made ..? 🤷♀️
My dear Elyse, if that basket of yarn is all you have- you need more yarn.
Sincerely- enabler of all things yarn related.
I'm in my mid sixties and recently was diagnosed with ASD.

Hey welcome to club 🥳
You just don’t understand how much I feel every single word of this so deeply in my soul!!! 😂
I feel the same way. I have a habit of letting inspiration and motivation lead me to starting projects. Unfortunately, once the passion dies down, or a distraction appears, the project gets shelved until I can remember to finish it.
I feel your pain. You are obviously a lovely person and will not left on the shelf.
I never felt liked I had found a lost sister so much, thank you.
Why is this so relatable?!
I feel this way about my art supply hoard, and all of the stuff I make. It's going to eat the house. 😂
That’s actually how you’re supposed to crochet. Most patterns have instructions for it. It’s called a gauge. It’s not usually so big (5x5 in most I think) but it helps you determine the right tension to match the pattern. So you stumbled into the proper technique actually. 😆👌
I have never crocheted in my life yet this is the single most relatable video I have ever watched….. 😂
It's an addiction! I found this adorable pumpkin pattern and just HAD to make a blanket out of it. Now I'm half way through the blanket and realizing that I don't actually want it, I just wanted to try it........
Perfect, now you have a gift for the next holidays :)
There has never been a more relatable video from someone of the crochet community that I've seen
Girl just invented swatching….👏👏👏
the concept of having (and for that, actually making) everything youve made as a mini version.... i truly relate to the way your brain works
The best blanket I ever made was single crochet "I'm using all the leftovers" it was beautiful. Can't wait to see yours
You remind me soo much of my wild, young-acting texan Memaw, it's so comforting to watch your videos! As someone with ADHD, you give off relatable vibes
Because she's ADHD too
😂 Can I just point out how good you are at this? All the stuff is perfection. Not one mistake in there. Everything evenly and nice and in order.❤❤❤
Elyse, it has been an absolute joy to watch you get so into one of my favorite hobbies. I hope it doesn’t stress you out too much!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
How many ppl would love your beautiful crocheted blankets and also the minis for the little kids that cover their stuffed animals and dolls.
My mother use to sew mini outfits for my Barbie dolls. Sweet memory for me.
Elyse your brain is brilliant. And you are very witty!
You seriously could be an actress! You have a beautiful presence and are a ray of sunshine! God bless you!
I’ve heard of someone keeping a swatch of their work along with a picture of the finished product with its giftee and keeping both in an album. That way you might only fill up a bookshelf instead of a whole room!
Perfect 😊
that's me with fancy notebooks. I have 21 unused notebooks sitting on my desk.
The struggle IS real. I feel your pain as I sit amongst all the pretty yarn I’ve bought, fated to be unfinished projects…
It is what it is and it could Definitely be worse.
...and stroking it gently while murmuring sweet nothings?
I love you and anyone who has crocheted for more than 10 minutes can completely relate to what you are saying or is in total denial. ❤
❤❤❤❤
I find no problem with this.
The ‘happy’ I got when you said make minis for memories.
It supersedes everything else.
I love that idea of making miniatures of all your crafts and yes, I’ve been told I’ll be on hoarders. Do it anyways, it’s a fabulous idea!
I used to work in a nursing home with a veterans and if you make lap blankets enough to cover your lap in your legs then you can donate them there to a nursing home for the residents at Christmas time they always love to see the different colors

I just want to acknowledge how much I like your blanket! Colors I never would have put together, in that pattern, and I love it! I also love the minis idea! While we frequently find ourselves in the hoarder category, we also know that we frequently can’t remember what we did yesterday or our spouse’s name - I fully support a mini library of your works.
I love this idea. Imagine having all your mini projects hanging up just under your ceiling. I love it
I had a relative that made dresses and made a small version for a doll each time. They're super cool to see with such detail.
I have soooooo much fabric for this EXACT reason

Yup.
I buy it cos it's so pretty... then I can't use it cos it's too pretty to waste 🤷🏻♀️🙈😂
I second this! 🎉❤ Buy a mystery bag of yarn for yourself. Mary Maxim is my favorite for mystery bags.

Hahaha push present; I love it!
Of course, the yarn shopping trip will be her second of the push presents -the first was her baby! 😆💞🧶👶❤️
Did you just make up "push present" because I LOVE IT!!
Nice 😊
Justifications don't make it right!! Hahaha 🤣 (totally kidding!) 😂
OMG that's exactly what I've been doing for years 😂 I always make a mini blanket of all the blankets I make 🥰 I can make another blanket out of all the mini samples I have and I can remember the blankets I've given away 🥰
Yarn is by far one of the better things to hoard. It doesn’t rot or decompose and it looks pretty.
You’re a crochet designer in the making girl! I have ADHD too and crochet designing SAVED MY LIFE ❤❤❤❤
Def use the mini branket and turn it into a corset or a tube top. It already has the heart shaped line and it’s stunning
Girl I feel you, EVERY time I go to Joanne’s I’m always wanting WAY MORE yarn, 😤EVEN though I’m supposed to get safety eyes, or something else. Either way, I never leave a craft store without just one ball of yarn😅😫
Me, but clay. It’s just one little brick per visit though! _adds to waaaaaay too big a bag of color sorted bricks and self mixed wads_
You have soooo much energy! With all you already do and a family! Do your thing as when you get older, it gets harder.
Welcome to the community! We're glad you're here 😊❤😂 we'll all be buried in yarn and projects together
Yep, with my ADHD and OCD/perfectionism, I never finish anything.
Lol that's just funny. I've got about 5 projects that I can remember going on right now.
That's a lot of money 😭😭😭. I hope your cat is fine after that!
U just gotta find something u like making or do something smaller and easier to finish
I'm already there with you on hoarders.🤣
P.S. Somebody please stop me, but really... don't.
Just accept your fate 😌
It gets worse, too! I couldn't find a color I wanted so I got into yarn dying. And then I couldn't find the appropriate blend of cashmere and silk, so I learned to spin. And weave. Then I needed to learn leatherworking to get the straps and belts just right. And somehow, over the course of the last 30 years of fiber arts, I have ended up with multiple rooms full of spinning wheels, looms, sewing machines, fibers, and crafting supplies??
My advice is just to accept your fate and acquire an understanding spouse.
I resemble this remark 😮
I’m giggling over here thinking, hallelujah there’s other people like me out there lol
Are you me?I don't remember writing this comment, but it sounds like me!
