The most tragic character in the entire franchise; went to Japan to win and get money for his mom's treatment, lost the tournament, has to leave the country, his mom dies and he is abandoned by his own gym. Jesus.
He had his redemption in the manga though. If you don't know it, spoiler alert: He is a World Champion now in the USA, possibly top 3 P4P in the series along with Takamura and Martinez. He almost killed Ippo on a sparring to show him how Sawamura would exploit his weakness on the JBC title fight, and is being trained by Dankichi Hama
He picked himself up in the right direction eventually (he went on temporary hiatus from active boxing when he returned to his country, but seems to still continue to train), Hama Dankichi is his coach as of now and he is the current IBF junior lightweight champion
Spoiler alert : I love how when being the 1st ranked contender for the world champion title(ibf), he’s asked to fight on 1 weeks notice, and even the referee cheats against volg helping the opponent up to his feet and counting slow, but volg still goes onto win it all. Characters don’t have such back stories anymore

Satoshi Nishimura's Hajime no ippo taught many of us and others out there the meaning of true victory, desire for personal growth, self pride, and many more. The look on Takamura's face when Ippo becomes world champion made me realise how triumph means . That truly inspired me to set foot on my journey of self growth. Everything about this anime was in perfect proportions be it the music, the VFX the songs, the plot. But the best part about this anime was the way Satoshi Nishimura presented the thought process and mentality of all the charecters. Ever since I watched this, I have waited for an anime that would match the standards which Hajime no Ippo has set.

So i don't think Miyata is better than Volg. Volg was the amateur world champion bro. That counts a lot to separate him from the rest of the boxers.
+Anime Catz Meow Actually, yes, even Kamogawa says that. Even fighting as an in fighter (take into account that Sendo and Ippo are infighters) he went out of his fight with Ippo walking, while Ippo went to the Hospital, and he should have won against Sendo, but the accidental fall he had and the fact he was fighting in Osaka caused his defeat.
