It’s not great to get laid off just before the holidays but I’m sure you’ll be fine. It’s a good time to work for yourself or get a job in the defense industry, that’s what I just switched to after 28 years in graphic design in the printing industry.
The B16 will yank pretty good (definitely the best fitting as the B18/20 have taller deck heights and may require minor hood/mount adjustments), but folks also underestimate the power of certain single jingles, like the D16Y8. Quite a fun engine paired with a tight ratio 5 spd and light platform/build.

The tech industry is fickle. That was the very first swap I did: 1989 CRX to B16A cable tranny. That was back in '02. I kept that car for a while, and after getting pulled over a couple times for "loud exhaust" I got rid it. I was in my late 20's and two things made me walk away from the "Honda/import scene": #1 I felt like was getting too old for it. I didn't want the "boy racer, ricer" image associated with me, though my car was stock looking with the exception of Eibach springs. #2, it was getting passé at that point (mid 2000's); the import scene reached its peak, and was going downhill. I guess it's kind of coming back. I'll reach out to you in the near future, if you're available and willing. I have a Z32 short wheelbase, like the one you had. But I'm swapping in a LS3 erod crate engine. I'm doing things by the book.
