Aki was an institution within the great University of Ghana. He was the Vice Chancellor when I was a student. He is a great man for sure. I recall the 7 pm deadline very vividly as if it was like yesterday. That was a day I will never forget in my life. Noel Tagoe was the SRC President during my first year at Legon. Kwaku Paintsil was the legendary student leader for the bulk of my time. He is a lawyer in Accra at the present time. 1986, 1987 and 1989 academic years were interesting times in the life of the student movement. Try and speak to the student leaders of that era.
He was not only our VC but our father on campus.

I love to listen to intellectuals like this, who have made Ghana proud nation. I heard of the name when i was very young, his intellectual fecundity had butterfly effect on young people in my area.

If Prof Kuami (KNUST) VC at the same time is alive, can you please interview him too? This is another leader that needs to be celebrated.

1985-86 at Legon were hard and rocky days. Food was scarce and we for sometimes had meat pie and milk powder for lunch.

Everything Aki said was true. Aki was very popular with students. I remember vividly when we had to return to campus for exams after having been sent home.

I was in Tech but I admired Aki very much. I admired his relationship with the students and the government. His principles were great.

He was a simple man. Long before he became VC I saw him walking barefoot on the street near the Makola law school. I was shocked but when I retired after 60 yrs of public service I also occasionally walked barefoot as a form of exercise. Sorry Prof for my earlier impressions

    Did I miss something?
How could Prof Akilakpa Sawyerr be interviewed on his life and works without his life in Papua New Guinea?
(A great insight that should guide us in challenging times!)

At about 32:40, Prof Aki was describing students marching towards the Legon Police Station and sat on the grass in front of the Police Station.
Which time was this? I think it might have been around December 1982. It was an internal aluta. Yes we went to the Gate (main entrance of the University on the Madina-Legon-Accra Road). We DID NOT cross the road to the other side where the Police Station was. In fact, during those days, our anger was not towards the Police or the Army. It was towards the lying Rawlings and his bloodthirsty PNDC

Who else has seen the Joynews interview of Tsatsu Tsikata? When he was asked about the same question about how he was able to maintain a beautiful garden in his home...he said it was his wife's achievement not his. Prof. too just literally repeated the same thing. Me right now: Marry well!!!! and let her make your home a therapeutic haven!!!!
