The amount of Riyaaz you need to do and the sacrifice. I wasn’t allowed to have tea, coffee, soft /cold drinks , have ice cream or have paan. The practice generally started early in the morning before starting your regular chores. Mind you I wasn’t even learning it For professional purpose but purely extra curriculum. That’s why most Indian singers who are trained classically do not lose their lungs until the very end because of the kind of practice you had from the get go. I wasn’t allowed to sing anything which wasn’t Raag based. I am good in singing and most people would ask me how I do it when I don’t practice regularly now & I am 41 years old. I’d say all those restrictions and Riyaaz is still helping.
