  • Wrexham FC go into EFL League one as one of the favourites to reach the top 3 or at the very least reach playoffs. The kop stand is not built, we don't have a proper training ground. Are Wrexham FC, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney ready for the EFL Championship?

    Sounds like either option is a winning situation for Wrexham FC and the fans. Just hoping the club has another great year of play, with minimal injuries to the players. On one hand if another promotion does not happen, then as you said, there is time to build the infrastructure and maybe get the issue of a new stadium or an upgrade build of the current stadium resolved and maybe even started. If promotion does happen again, then the rocket ship keeps climbing and interest in the club and the series grows. Pretty sure the folks behind the scenes working with Reynolds and McElhenney are up to the challenge either way.

      As for the series , I am pretty sure it was only ever going to be 4 but if we do get promoted again or interest does not wane then they may do a season 5. We need to get the kop deal done because if we don't we could lose the gateway money from the council. Its a hard one, everyone wants the club to go up as high as they can but you don't want to go up and come back down again either.

    This is one of those situations where I think Parky brings in the best players he can to fill the holes and upgrade the released positions and we let the chips fall where they may. A treble promotion would be amazing, but the Kop and especially a training ground really need to be sorted right away. I don’t think anyone would be mad if we had a mid table finish or even made the playoffs but stayed in league one for a season or two to let infrastructure catch up before pushing for the Championship and Prem.

      Exactly, 100% everything you just said, Phil. I would be ecstatic if we went up again and would be over the moon. Just worried if we made that leap then just came back down again , it would be terrible for the club. I am pretty sure by the time we've reached halfway through the season that it will be somewhat clear how well we are doing. If we are sitting in the top 5 for example, I think alarm bells will be ringing about the need for more investment , work to begin and for those dragging their feet to get moving. The Kop has to start soon, its very concerning.

      Quite ... naive Americans unused to promotion/relegation would be turned off by TALK of "consolidation", but if the club makes a push for the playoff spaces and falls short of sixth place, or is not the one of the four that punches their ticket, that won't be any disaster.

      We already got promoted out of the national league which was huge for us. For us one season later to be promoted again is beyond anyone's dreams. Every fan wants promotion but I am just hoping that if we do its not a flash in the pan and we end up back down again. Championship wages alone combined with improved infrastructure would be incredibly costly.

    While i'm not sure we can get another promotion this coming season, I think we need it. I'm not sure if we actually getting any type of payments from the documentary, this is not really clear, but what we do get is influence and merch sells across the world. i also don't think the show can carry on for too much longer, and I would like us to still have the show when we get to the championship league.
    money wise, I would really hate seeing outside investors coming in, cause you never know what would happen to the club if they do come in.
    money wise going up to championship, I think we could very well within one season in Championship get the funding from sells and parachute payments and sponserships to be a force in it. prob with staying in league 1, is getting the proper players with skill and proper young age. being league 1 would make players at the level we want think twice before wanting to join us, when they can go play at a higher level.
    so... making it all a short version.
    we need to get promoted and than stay in Championship league for 1-2 seasons to build ourself/turf/training grounds etc. up to standarts.

      if we do win League 1, my prediction would be that we get stuck in Championship around the lower or middle for the first year, than top half second season, than I think we going to have a change in Manager, than maybe a year more and than go up

      @@WrexhamAFCfanzone Yes, it would be unsustainable to build the documentary revenues into the club's financial report, when any year could bring the news that the following series is the last ... but in effect the money that R&R have put into the club to date have far exceeded anything that they could have earned from the doco. But the doco generates the bulk of the sponsorship, and the next financial report is when we'll see how substantial that actually is. And it's the upcoming season when the merch is likely to move to a company that can keep up with demand, and fully tap that income source. But the cost to be a mid-table Championship club and the cost to be a top six Championship club are two different levels of outlay. To be sure, being a mid-table club brings with it the real risk of relegation, but there is a difference between a real risk of relegation and more likely to be relegated than not.

  • @brucemcfarling6594
    @brucemcfarling6594 4 месяца назад +1

    Not yet, they need to replace the players not re-signed first. But as far as "consolidation", in Wrexham's peculiar situation, the Championship is a better place to aim for consolidation before making the push for the highest reaches than League One is, since in the Championship, Wrexham can be seen in the US on general streaming site ESPN+, so that US fans are not at the big ticket iFollow or nothing, making it easier to maintain US interest after Welcome to Wrexham itself closes up shop. Further, the loss in the second year of the National league is likely to be larger than the loss last year ... I am guessing that when the next round of financial reports comes out, people are going to be less panicky about the prospect of being unable to sustain a Championship consolidation campaign, mid-table or better, than they may be at present. Plus the live prospect of relegation at the start of a series of Welcome to Wrexham, and it's own particular edge of the seat suspence, is just the ticket to getting season six approved as season five is going to air.

      I think they had one or two games on ESPN+ but I agree a move away from iFollow would be a huge thing for American fans. The price is not too bad though if you go for a season ticket. @@WrexhamAFCfanzone It's not so much a move away from iFollow to having a "taste test" option that is independent of the documentary. @@WrexhamAFCfanzone The thing is, I expect the club finances will support a payroll in the 7m pound range this coming year, and from that point, a mid-level Championship payroll (#12/#13 in the payroll lists) is somewhere around 15m pound. The difference between the two is close to the difference between League 1 and Championship TV money and solidarity payments. As far as the infrastructure investment, that looks to be going ahead as fast as practicable either way, so whether the club wins promotion or not doesn't substantially change that. The discussion of the big stadium capacities is likely to be like a lot of US college sports stadiums at the lower levels, where the stand actual HAS "X" seats, but "it's expandable to Y", normally by building it so a second deck can be added later.

    Wrexham has been... frustrating. As good an achievement as promotion was and as much as they've scored some great goals, their defense was atrocious if you look at goals conceded. Tbh, I understand that Tozer is a favourite, but his pace is lacking for higher leagues, he gets burned for speed 9 times out of 10 allowing attacking teams free shots. So, unless they get their defense sorted, they might end up all the way at the bottom, or relegated again.
