FMF FATTY VS SHEARER PIPES 421 SERVAL BANSHEE 2018

  • Testing out the FMF Fatty pipes. They are a lot more ridable in the trails with a huge improvement in midrange performance. Perform very well on the ported serval. I'll probably throw the Shearers back on to do another seat of the pants comparison. I think for more wide open riding less tighter areas the Shearer are better. All personal preference of course.
    Thanks for watching please comment on what pipe setup you are running and why.

    I ran fmf fattys before on my stock cylinder, a great pipe that is underrated in my opinion, best of all is that you can find a used set for cheap! I now have a 4mm cub on 39mm pwks, and shearers, I dune and drag, so that setup is perfect. If I ever ran a dune ported stock cylinder, I would consider fattys, but believe it or not my builder set up my engine and jetting to where it has almost the same initial snap as the fattys, it’s pretty crazy, but of course they scream up top, a lot of people say that shearers have no bottom, but if your builder knows how to port, jet, set timing, compression for them, they hit hard.

      The Fatty's were recommended by my engine builder for my setup. They come on sooner than the Shearers which I like and pull great in the Midrange. The Shearers pull way longer on top which really don't help me for dune open riding.... maybe if I was in Glamis where the dunes are longer but in Oregon everything is short hill climbs. Fatty's are a great pipe on a Banshee and cheap!!

      @STILLNIGHTPEARL 5 лет назад +1

      That’s good man, cameron knows his stuff that’s for sure, I forgot to tell you that I’m on 18cc domes, so I’m on straight race fuel, another reason why my setup has more snap as well for having shearers.

    • @WestCoastRoller
      @WestCoastRoller  5 лет назад

      I'm running 24cc pump gas domes so yeah more compression makes a difference.

      West Coast Roller you should look into slp pipes, they come on hard, but almost make as much hp as a Shearer and CPI pipe, but they make that hp much lower in the rpm curve, so not much overrev, but the power is there, perfect for your style of riding. I only ride a couple times a year at most, so the expense with race gas is no big deal, but if you ride a lot, I could see why you went with a pump gas setup, but the torque curve is much stronger on race gas. I don’t have those clearance issues with my 39mm pwks when it comes to the stinger tubes, I think it’s because I’m running the billet intakes which keeps some decent space between the filters and tubes, they seem to be angled lower, so no melting issues there. My builder is Eric Friend from empire industries, he knows Cameron because Eric started in Oregon back in the 1990s by the name of white knuckle racing, I believe he was out of Boring, now he does custom pipes for 4 strokes, he’s in lake havasu now, that’s pretty much his work now, no more engine building, but he sure knows his stuff if he ever had to do a build again. He left my bike running real sharp, engine so balanced, jetting spot on, great build overall, now I just need to get my gearing dialed in, but that’s all test and tune. Dumont dunes is my spot for riding, smaller than glamis, but not as many people, better for hill shooting, the dunes are dangerous though, horrible angle with the razorbacks, plus it’s about 100 miles away from Vegas, so you’re for sure getting air lifted if anything major happens, no hospitals nearby there.

      I've heard good things about the SLP. Haven't tried them. Sniper seems to be the all rage pipe on a serval but all that matters to me is that the pipe makes power where I want it. Thanks for the tip on the billet intakes. I tried a Chariot briefly but ended up returning it due to some crappy design with the crossover plate I didn't like. I would buy a Mattoon next time. The UPP's rub with the Shearer pipes & K&N 6 inch filters. No rubbing with the FMF's.
      My buddy had a cub built by Eric when he was in Oregon. Cam is my go to guy but he is only 2 hours from me. Never rode Dumont but I have been there. Wouldn't want to get injured there that's for sure!

    Did you go from stock cylinders to the 421? If so how much of a difference did you notice? Thinking of porting the stock or buying the assasins 421’s

    • @WestCoastRoller
      @WestCoastRoller  5 лет назад

      If your budget allows it go straight to the 421......otherwise ported cylinders are best bang for your buck.
      A ported 421 serval will be more torque and power than stock cylinders....a wheelie machine.

    Thanks for the video. I have fattys now and am debating on whether or not to keep them when I build the 421. Mostly a trail bike but will see some drags/sand. Where were you riding in the shearer clip? Looks awesome.

    • @WestCoastRoller
      @WestCoastRoller  3 года назад +1

      I think I was in Florence oregon riding in that clip. I would definitely try the fattys out on the larger motor. Mine rip down low and have a very good top pull as well. I'm still experimenting with both pipes mostly jetting to get the best performance. I'll do an updated video eventually with what I decided. Thanks for your comment

    Ive run pro circuit and snipers on a serval and the snipers had just as much low but way more top
    Its more the jetting than the pipe
    Found the cel needle on the 2nd lean but with the top end of the needle sandpapered in a rotary tool to 1 stage richer(as if needle was in mid clip )was better than anything
    That way the needle cleaned up bottom end but didnt lean mid top and then ran 152 main and 48 p
    The dyno confirmed with a 12,5 af

      Air screw 1.5 turns out from seated.....you can fine tune the air screws from that setting in or out when tuning off the bottom performance and reving.......make sure your carbs are synced up with each other or it will throw everything off. Buying a syncrometer tool is money well spent to set your idle....slides generally can be set by visually looking to make sure they both open evenly. There are also sight windows on each carb. If you don't mess with anything other than just changing main jets you shouldn't have to do the following. South Texas Banshee youtube channel has good videos showing how to do all of that.
