Here in California, even junky-ish ones with tons of differed maintenance can go for upwards of $4,000. More often than not, they're being sold by some methhead.
The transmission might have straight-cut gears for economy instead of helical gears that are quieter but have more friction. Early Plymouth Barracudas had vacuum gauges in the cluster labelled "economy" on one side and "performance" on the low vacuum side. Mid '70's Dodge and Plymouth compacts could be ordered with a fuel saving device that would light up the left turn signal indicator when engine vacuum got low (heavy throttle use).
Nope, all d series have helical gears in their manual transmissions. Straight cut gears are both loud, and not as forgiving to shift compared to helical
I bought a 1992 Civic VX brand new and still have it. It is in excellent condition and is completely stock. I have cold AC in it, Amazingly enough it has 612,000 miles on it. You can see it on Honda High Mile Club if you google it. I drive it every day and hope to hit 1,000,000 miles on it. I have found the transmissions last about 250k then give up the ghost. I am on the third one and it is completely quiet. They only made about 12,000 of these from 1992 to 1995, which was just over 1% of the total Civic production during that time. These are virtually impossible to find. I may have the only one owner VX in the world, but my guess is that there are others just sitting in a barn somewhere.
Damn that sucks to know about the transmissions crapping out at 250k. Did you end up rebuilding or buying reman? Also any maintenance tips? Have a VX myself and just hit 210K
Out of the gazillion cars I’ve owned. My VX is my fave. Amazing economy but still super fun. The EGs have the best front suspensions of any Civics. Ridiculously light weight and toss able. Mine got stolen and cut up. Otherwise I would still own it.
I still have have my 92 VX, original owner, 206,000 miles, great shape, have immediately repaired anything needed. New battery and tires. Got 60 mpg in 94 from Lancaster, Pa. to south of McDonald NC heading to Fla., with 3 passengers and luggage. It’s very quick. Last time I did a highway drive I got 54 mpg. Asking $10,001. Wife is making me sell it. Really don’t want to sell it but i just retired and unloading overhead. Lancaster Pa. area.
The wheels were so nice for such an economy car. The HX in the next generation (which had a CVT) also had similar cool wheels. They were pretty sought after for a while since they look nice and are light
Dang! Seeing "old" cars like this one, in good shape, makes me miss the PNW! There is one ca. 1990 Civic sedan in my neighborhood...it's about half-rust, and looks in danger of breaking in half on any speed bump. My 1986 Mazda 626 sedan had an upshift light as well...it was heavier, and sportier, than my '84 Accord, but got better mileage...
I have a 92 si hatch,red,5 speed sitting in my driveway right now. It’s a little rusty and it’s engine is tired and has 462 thousand kms on it. Trying to decide what to do with it. Wouldn’t be cheap to do bodywork and paint but I sure would like to keep it. These are the best little cars, tough as nails as I’ve put this thing through the wringers in the cold ass winters, the only thing that ever failed was the original fuel pump crapped out at 449 thousand kms but it was a super easy fix. Love these cars🚗. Greetings from British Columbia
these are not 16-1700 pounds, closer to 2000-2200 depending on trim level. si's are the heaviest. They made the "eg" hatch with the split tailgate from 92-95
those uphshift lights were pretty common on eighties cars. my friend had an ford escort pony that had one. just another annoying light on the dash flashing at you. id pull the bulb on it
That noise in the transmission happens when the gear oil in there gets too dirty and plugs up the little holes and passeges that the gear shafts have and the bearings run dry. I saw it explained on a epsiode of wheeler dealers when they were dealing with a noisy manual transmission in a old 1980s Ford Fiesta. Manual transmissions need to be flushed and serviced too at least once every 100k
The upshift lights take throttle position into account as well. If the throttle is down pretty far, the car assumes you are accelerating and it won't trigger the light until you get to higher RPMs; if you have a very light throttle opening it assumes you are cruising and will prompt you to shift to get to a much lower RPM. It seems to use a similar kind of logic to that used in automatic transmissions.
I had a white 1994 DX. Miss it everyday. Regretted it. it’s hard to find one in good condition nowadays. The ones I saw for sale are rusted here in Midwest.
I really wanted this exact model for my first car, but my parents wouldn’t let me get a two door/hatch “for safety”. I did end up getting a ‘91 Mazda 323 hatchback for my second car which was very similar but less cool. I averaged around 32MPG with my foot on the floor, definitely using the five-speed for fun and not economy.
My ‘87 Jetta had an up shift light also. My goal was to get it to come on in fifth. Then my goal was to make sure my ex-wife got it in the divorce. One out of two ain’t bad...
I own two Honda Civics, a 2003 Honda Civic EX and a 2012 Honda Civic Si. They are great cars regardless of year, although some are probably better than others. This '92 will likely still be on the road in 2032 with reasonable maintenance.
Had a 93 Si with a B16. 170hp in that thing is something else. Hated the car itself mind you haha. That tailgate is stupid. Those wheels though, they are like 9lbs each. I have 2 sets for my Honda Acty truck. Awesome video.
Has this car been in any accidents? it looks just like mine except its crashed from the front it has the exact same seat covers and the booster is stained exactly like this one
LOL, for a fan of PFI Speed and the Boosted Boiz (who tune and race Civics like this but with 1000+ HP) the contrast couldn't be bigger 🤣🤣🤣 I like the trunk, never have seen it before...
Wow thats just like my dads crx HF only with a different body it even has the shift light too the only problem with my dads is it surges and bogs a bit its got over 300k
This body style is not an EF, it's called an "EG" to enthusiasts, but correct me if I'm wrong they're actually EH's in the US because we don't deserve anything cool
You don't see these in unmolested condition. Usually some kid has cut the whole interior up for a stereo and ruined the suspension with 45 degree rear camber.
@@2stroketurbothat’s insane. Demand for a stock one is huge. And with media even more 30 years later so I’m not surprised. Now we know why he had 3 alarms… poor Civ deserves better it’s a classic car nowadays and they’re disappearing fast because of crap like this
you said EF body style , it is a EG hatch back chassis sir but im sure someone has corrected you already and there is no HF body style EG , only EG & EJ & EH , HF is the CRX body chassis
also the tail gate eg hatch was in production for 3 years not 1 years. eg’s were in production from 1992-1995. not tryna brag , im just a 92/95 Honda civic enthusiast
Only car I ever had that had that idiot shift light the 1985 Mercury lynx brand new what a piece of crap you don't need a light to tell you when to shift if you don't know when to shift you don't need a manual
The EG Hatchbacks are getting impressively expensive. I saw a clean low milage one sell for nearly 10,000 a couple years ago on Craigslist.
this one is an EG hatch. the EF generation is 1988-1991; EG is 1992-1995. he misspoke in the video by calling it an EF
Here in California, even junky-ish ones with tons of differed maintenance can go for upwards of $4,000. More often than not, they're being sold by some methhead.
@@srinivasaniyer407 I'm about to say that is EG and a damn clean one too
I had a 1995 Honda Civic CX. Bought it new. It was a great car and kind of wish I still had it. Loved the hatchback.
Ahh...almost forgot about the old "clam-back" hatch on the 1992-95 Civics!
My daughter owned a 1986 Renault Alliance that had an upshift light like that.

I should have read down first before I commented like you did on the straight-cut gears.

I have a VX that I’m currently K swapping but it had 360k on the original tranny. All highway miles so I’m sure that made a difference.
250k give up the ghost? ive seen others say they have 400-500k on original manual trans? did you change to a high quality synthetic fluid?

Nice! I have a '99 HX MT. 45-50 mpg. I was looking for a bone stock VX, but absolutley none avail, all heavily modified. Great cars! Very under-rated

You are correct, the VX weights 2094 lbs. I have one.
Nobody knows about the upshift light and I've been looking forever. I need a wiring harness and vx cluster for the upshift light. So cool
those uphshift lights were pretty common on eighties cars. my friend had an ford escort pony that had one. just another annoying light on the dash flashing at you. id pull the bulb on it

this car absolutely ridiculous expensive on my country 😁 collectible car
All eg hatch models from 92-95 had the tailgate like that!
Two of the exterior features missing on that low spec model are the rear wiper and body side mouldings.
Dude thank you

These are great cars, so lightweight. Pity most have been used for modified builds. Even a dual vtec b16 makes it move like a rocket.

This is actually an “EH2” civic. The USDM “EG”... most people call them EG. Not unless they’re RHD JDM are they actually an “EG”.
True true
Beautiful car
From the era when Hondas were really good looking cars. Unlike now.
I agree, Chris. They were beautiful back then. I think the new ones are ugly.

I know....
My 1997 Saturn SL1 has am upshift light. Thing gets 40 MPG on my 2-lane country roads when I'm not running the AC.

The upshift light in my ford focus makes no sense. When im coasting to a stop and letting the rpm drop down it tells me to upshift??
I had one amazing just needs side mirror
also just a tip you should probably blur out customer plates in your videos, especially for cars like this. very desirable to steal
Do you still have this car ? If so do you want to sell it ?
92-95 EG 👍

A little WD 40 will take care of the door creak
No,don’t use wd40. It’s not a lubricant at all,it works in a pinch if it’s all you have but get a silicone lube spray,it lasts way longer
There are lots of things better than WD 40. A locksmith I used to know loved the stuff for the work it gave him.
Never saw one for this versions of the civic, quit unique, maybe those were never sold in europe...
