So I'm just here to say my 05 king ranch fx4 just rolled over 367k miles. Took it on a 200 mile trip yesterday and she never skipped a beat. Still going strong after all these years and I drive it almost daily. Not bragging, just saying with proper maintenance it can be done in these engines.😎✌️
I have a 2007 crew cab 6.5f box FX4 . Picked it up in 2010 with 24,000 miles on it. First thing i did was a CAI and a superchips tune because these trucks have torque management that makes them pathetic off the line. Now it feels like it has 300hp. Next thing i did was pull out the plugs before carbon would lock them in and break and did this every 2 years up untill now never had one break. Next thing I did was had the front bumper wrapped with a impact resistant film up until now no ugly rust spots. As with any vehicle things start to break . Did struts due to a broken spring upper control arms lower ball joints radio coil packs. And now manifolds dont leak but have broken studs.I am a 30 year diesel mechanic that worked 15 years at a Ford dealer now at a Freightliner dealership. Going to get my old colleague at the Ford dealership to tackle this job does them all the time. AH now ac evaporator is leaking He says a walk in the park going to tackle this myself. And when its all said and done with my recent change to 5w30 in over serviced oil changes that I have done 3,500 miles since purchase to keep those cam phasers alive now with 120,000 miles engine as quiet as the day I bought it. And in 2021 getting the same with a 5.0. My friend wont leave me alone he wants my truck should I bite the bullitt and take it up the ass trade it in or sell it to my friend.
So just to clarify, you have a King Ranch that someone threw a front skid plate on. You don't have the FX4 package, because on that gen truck it was its own trim level, not a package.
Tip for bringing plastic trim pieces back to life, rub in smooth peanut butter. It replaces lost oils and lasts a long time. Pulls the black color back like factory.
I’ve always liked these trucks. My dad back in the day had a 2007 Ford Explorer sport trac truck which always reminded me of an f150. I loved how his back window slides electronically too. Thanks for the awesome review!
That's a very nice truck. Good friend of mine just brought a 2006 just like yours with 108,000 miles. It had a new engine put in at only 80,000. I have a 1996 Ford F150 XLT all original with 108,000 miles and a 351 Windsor engine which is a 5.8L. I run no ethonal gasoline in it and it does really well. The older engines hate this gasoline with ethonal in it. As far as the liner goes I'm not sure which one is better. Mine is plastic. Great video!
Those older engines really do hate that ethanol fuel nowadays! I also have a 1996 F-350 with the 7.5L 460 and that thing HATES ethanol fuel, it's the one that i finished putting an engine in about a month ago, maybe I should do a video on that thing here soon. Thanks for watching!!!
@@beneminger3666 your welcome. It was a great video. The 460 is a great engine! Yeah would love to see a video of that 96. I really like the 92 to 96 trucks.
I think I'll do one on it here soon, last video on the 96' was from early may after the truck sat for over a year, I'll be driving it later today so look for a video here soon!
Antonio Claudio Michael people need to stop accusing Ford. It’s the person behind the wheel. A lot of bulletproof 5.4 3v engines out their. I haven’t had any issues with my engine with over 268 000km.
Antonio Claudio Michael 9/10 times if it’s a reman long block the distributors have fixed all the problems these engines had from factory, spark plugs, timing chain and tensioners, oil pump etc
Nice, mine is 05 lariat same color as yours, for many years I drove it with 315/70/17, it now has 285/75/17, mine has had rhino bed liner since 06, live in Texas so no rust, Ive done spark pugs twice none have broken yet, Gibson makes shorty exhaust manifolds for this model truck haven't decided yet to go there, my passenger side manifold leaks, so at some point I will tackle this issue.
Casting flaw in the oil pump, it's actually quite astonishing it made it to 170k without dying beforehand. Keep up with your maintenance and use synthetic oil & you should be just fine!
All the oil pumps in the 3v 5.4 are bad. If you're not having phaser rattle or timing chain slap, replace the factory pump with a Melling oil pump ASAP! 90% of the engine problems with these trucks are caused by the weak oil pumps. If you are keeping your truck for a while replace the pump or you'll have to replace the engine.
Kyle Prysmont Well, not really. My 04’ Lariat had a rattling noise due to the timing chain losing its tension. Common problem on these 5.4’s. The chain rubs against the timing chain cover that’s where the rattle comes from. Bought the complete timing chain kit on amazon installed and it’s as quiet as a Lexus
I used rustoleum professional grade Berliner kit at Walmart! Runs about 80 bucks! I put it in my 06 f150 king ranch and in my 02 ranger and it turn out great!!
Does your steering wheel controls still work with that aftermarket radio? That’s the only thing keeping me from swapping mine. I like being able to control it by the wheel.
Ben Eminger what does it the radio need to come with in order for them to work? My lariat has the volume and memory buttons. The brand of the radio to me doesn’t matter I just want something my can quickly connect my phone too and play my music
@@ghilliemanreviews it needs to have the wiring harness to plug into the steering wheel controls, that's how mine came, I had it professionally installed though.
Excuse me you can help me with few pictures from the motor ' the think is I buy a 2004 Lariat but is coming in part out from the motor and the battery wiring harness was cutting and I will know how is going connected right
Nice truck! I personally would'nt bother with a new bedliner, I mean its got over 200k. Why bother now? Plus for what you use it for it will do just fine for many more years.
My dad had one of these except it was a Lariat from 2007. He bought it used around 2013 or 14 and drove it until he traded it in for an F-350. He now has a Tacoma with a 6-speed manual.
Do any of you guys have the 5.4 triton ( 04-10 ) that has not had to have the timing chains and phasers replaced?. Mine has 90000 miles on it from 2005 and it started rattling last week.

How's the gas on it? I heard they are gas guzzlers

I pulled windshield cowling off and spray painted it black along with wiper arms, looks brand new. New nozzles $15 and windshield $140.
That is one well used box you have definitely used this truck 👍
Hey for the faded trim. You can buy some spray at an auto store and it turns it black like brand new.
