      That thing will be HUGE! Will Tyler need a special permit to fly this one? How heavy do you think it will be once it's finished, 40 kg or more?

    • @rjung_ch
      @rjung_ch 10 месяцев назад +1

      With an engine with EDF being over 3.5 kg, that plane will be way over 40 kg. I will be shocked if it's more than 60!

    Love this build Ramy! I lived in Long Beach CA where the C-17 was manufactured and never got tired of watching them fly.

      Cg is simple. Calculate the mean aerodynamic chord location and put it at around 25-27% to start, then tune as required once you start flying.

    Your work and attention to detail is amazing ! I was lucky to have watched the full-scale mockup (made mostly of aircraft-grade plywood IIRC) of the C-17 fuselage as it was being constructed in one of the massive buildings at McDonnell Douglas/Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, CA. This was ca. 1986-1989, as CADD/CAM was still considered to be not fully mature and so they constructed a full-scale model to ensure that systems like the wiring, plumbing, landing gear and all that would fit. It was so impressive to see these master fabricators constructing the massive fuselage, and your work reminds me of that.

      Back in the mid 1980s, I found a book with detailed cross section drawings of an F-16 which I enlarged on a copying machine to build a 1/6 scale model. I traced all the sections onto thin plywood, cut them out, and used them to hotwire all the left and right side sections. Glued them all together to make my 8 foot long fuselage plug. I spent weeks comparing and finishing it so it matched pictures from every angle. It was so rewarding to create. The good old days. Then I saw that companies were using CNC machines to create super detailed models. That knocked the wind out of my sails.

      Looked up the EDF, max current is 500A! I don't know what the battery will be but just guessing that at 18s 66v, these will output 31Kw each. So 166hp for all four. That's the same as a Cessna 172.

    What an awesome project!! I made a small EDF C-17 out of foamboard several years ago, its one of my favorite planes. My father was in charge of the ground test program for C-17 in the late 80s and early 90s, I very much "grew up" on the C-17. Can't wait to see it fly!!

    • @icin4d
      @icin4d 10 месяцев назад

      @rcnfo1197 It is a head scratcher. He already patched the wing where the wires fit under and soldered/heat shrunk the wiring. If you cut into the nessel support, you weaken that. Severely I would think.
