The figure is vert clearly an Angara and doesnt match any other race than Angara. You're not wrong that the game is set in the Milky Way, but its not ONLY set in the Milky Way. It will start there clearly, with the Council receiving word of the Andromeda Initiative's distress beacon and choosing to do nothing because they are no longer under the jurisdiction of the Council. Liara will clearly disagree and likely recruits this new N7 operative to gather together a force to send to Andromeda, likely through a newly constructed and improved Mass Relay, thus making the journey significantly faster than the 600 years it took the Initiative to reach Andromeda. This force will arrive shortly after the end of Andromeda, potentionally on top of the Quarian Ark, rescuing it from the Kett. And yes, the Hanar were onboard the Quarian Ark. All the races that did not travel on the other Arks were on the Quarian Ark. The reason it left later than the others is because it was being refitted to accommodate the needs of the various other races and not just Quarians. We also never get told whether or not the unseen Milky Way races were also on the Nexus and merely still in cryo. The game will likely still continue a good bit after saving the Quarian Ark so that we can get caught up to speed on the situation in Andromeda, discover more new races that weren't in the previous game, and form a more effective defense against the Kett while discovering more about the Jardaan.
My mind went to the same thoughts with the outfit, the whole thing is to highlight the N7 nature, but with that aspect and this actual design of the outfit, my extension is that this trailer and art is to show that the N7 program has advanced. Somebody with more biotic nature would suit this outfit completely, for example, rather than just an outstanding soldier like the default Shep and Vega. It could show that the universe has now made Biotics so much more integrated with Humanity, that Humanity is taking a role that could, in time, equal the Asari in terms of quality of biotic potential. So we could get a whole set of new Roles to play, all of them integrating Biotic powers to a greater or lesser degree. What would do a proper nostalgia bait would be an actual descendant of Shep. This would allow them to make it all about Shepard's legacy, but at the same time allow them to tell a new story. We could have a Shepard that now has to not only live up to the reputation, but also live with the fact that nothing they do will be better, similar to Ashley's story, but with either a villain or a hero depending on the save file. Liara would be a mentor, and the new Shep's N7 nature would prove that they didn't get favouritism just for being a Shepard (because N7 has respect for the designation). What could be even more 'what a twist' inducing is that somebody had the exact idea as Cerberus and wanted to recreate a Shepard, and so the original trailer of Liara finding an N7 badge is actually her tracking down a group that's trying to create the exact kind of formula that gave birth to the Shepard we played. Back-story, danger, all of the qualities that would make an N7. Failed tests where the potential replacement Sheps died, being tracked by the one person left with the intelligence and connections to do so (Grunt would be alive, but wouldn't count), over all the planets they were trying to hide on. And then Liara finds the player character... who really is a Shepard. And watches them like a hawk until they prove themselves.
Pretty sure I saw some Krogan in that bar picture too It seems like probably not Shepard - the whole trenchcoat and silenced pistol vibe really deviates from Shepard's style, which generally seems to involve a considerable amount of direct violence whichever way you go. Honestly the outfit and the bar sort of gives me ME2 Omega vibes, which could be an interesting place to set something, albeit not suitable for the grand scale of previous ME games. Starting place though, maybe. Very different from Shepard's origins. The Geth in the bar scene is... interesting. That pretty strongly restricts the possible setting, since Geth were not exactly commonplace or accepted prior to the ending of ME3 - I don't see any of them being welcome in most bars, and as we know, Geth do not (intentionally) infiltrate. On the other hand, after ME3, we could have Geth being accepted... unless Shepard hit the big red Destroy button and killed them all. Not seeing a lot of cyber nonsense in the bar scene, so probably not Merge. The Abdicate ending leaves everyone getting Reaped, which leaves Control as the only way for there to be a Geth in a bar. Unless of course the Quarians rebuilt the Geth after Destroy, which would not be very respectful to the main reason the Destroy ending hurts so much. Control also means Our Hero in the trailer can't be Shepard, since Shep's stuck as an AI overlord and not a flesh-and-blood-and-Cerberus-technology human anymore. So that leaves us with cyberpunk/noir N7 sneaking around under whatever got built by Shepard the AI Glorious Leader. Possible revolt against a Reaper-enforced dystopia. Could be really cool. Doesn't feel very Mass Effect.
I do like the sound of the Shepherd AI overlord as the antagonist idea, especially if is only revealed halfway through the story, but you are right that it isn't very Mass Effect and I don't think most players would really vibe with it either. The main character in ME has always been very frontline run and gun and I think the shift to a noir sneaky gameplay style would bounce a lot of people off, especially if the plot is as said as well.
Okay, here comes my prediction. This is 100% shepherd. Absolutely no doubt. The thing is you're not going to know that when you play the game. You're going to play a character with a mysterious past and unlock memories as you meet these people. The character that you're playing is a hybrid of reaper and human. It's a merger of AI, tech and humanity but without purpose. The quest of the game will be whether you embrace your AI side and become a reaper or embrace your humanity and save a crumbling Galaxy. As a hybrid of reaper and human their body can be sleek and powerful and wheeled biotics and tech and weapons without any problem. Synthesis was an option, and it was by far the most disruptive to the status quo. But that also makes it one of the most interesting ideas and I'd be surprised if they did nothing with it.
This is a really interesting theory. It could also work with the Synthesis or Control endings as well. A lot of people are suggesting that a corrupted Shepherd AI could be the antagonist for a Control ending continuation as well. Maybe even some sort of left over Cerberus tech that got overtaken by Reaper Tech?

Fun video. I like deep dive sort of stuff personally. Though I can see it being a strange fit for the channel. Also.. Shepard touched the marker?! Uh oh. Time to fight the necromorphs. lol. One thing that stood out to me, and maybe this is just my personal bias, but the N7 character has a very thin and slim body which to me looks more feminine. Which seems kinda strange since every ME game let you pick? I donno maybe that is just a marketing thing. It looks good and I like strong female leads. I played through the ME series as both and they felt like very different experiences to me which was nice. Maybe the next teaser will have a more large and masculine form with maybe the assault rifle look to balance it out? But ME as a series has long been over for me. I bought all 3 with every DLC years back on ultra mega discord before the legendary release and I only managed to play through the first game again due to it being my personal favorite. There was a lot of extra steps for get ME1 and ME2 running on a modern system, plus we have the options on PC for modding for better visuals. But after ME3's ending back on xbox release and the subpar ending without the patched content. Even years later I just, can't get back into the game knowing where it all ends. And sadly, to finish off. I don't trust current bioware to have the skills, or talent, or drive to release us another classic bioware game of the past. They have had a few chances already, and we all know how they turned out. I'll be sad to see this revival flop, obviously. I loved ME for its world, the lore, the writing, there really isn't a lot out there like it! But. Saying that. I love to be proven wrong. Just maybe, we will get another great game for the ME series. With ME3, Femshep became canon after the fanbase voted on her appearance (redhead, green eyes, athletic, soldier.). However, Shep's gender is always up to the player. Our personal games are always alternate universes to the Bioware-canon (Femshep x Liara, destruction, survivor).
Yeah I know it wasn't my normal thing but I felt like taking the time to do it. Turned out to be a ton of work and I wasn't super happy with the end result.
Why must the shown Character be the new MC (or PC). When the try to distance themselves from andromeda and the first three games, they might have chosen to not show the new MC but maybe the antagonist. In this way the other races wouldn’t be ruled out by default and a N7 that decided to go rouge could be an interesting opponent.
As long as this game is more like the first three games and less like Andromeda, I’ll be happy. Also love the fashion of the character showed. I’ve always loved the long coat with a collar look and there isn’t enough of that in games
The high collar coat is very cool, and I agree with you say. I think we can't avoid a fluid combat system like Andromeda but honestly that is the best part of the game really. Hopefully we get a more grounded RPG with less open world elements...
Why do people keep thinking this could be Shephard him/herself? It was made clear in previous teaser/trailers that Liara is in the game and she's in her matriarch years. The dead/frozen reaper she walks along is also a huge clue to the time distance. It also makes sense to set the game FAR into the future to get away from issues arrising based on what ending they make canon. But also with this latest picture, we are seeing Geth, Salarians and Angaran together all in the same room. There's also someone else that's clearly wearing Andromeda Initiative armor. Now, either they spent another 600 years on one of the arks to get back to the Milky Way galaxy, or more likely, studying the technology on Meridian, a massively advanced structure created by an extremely advanced race, the Jardan, they likely came up with technology that allows travel at faster than light speeds, allowing a return trip from Andromeda to the Milky Way in less than 600 years. No matter what, it's NOT Shephard. I'd actually LOVE it if the player character was A Shepard, the Shepard child that he had with Liara in my game. And then the player character could drastically change depending on who you romanced in ME1-3 & Andromeda.
It needs ot be Shepard. Bioware can't gamble on another none Shepard story and let it ride. They would be very stupid. People still haven't forgiven ME3 and still become irrationally angry over Andromeda. Bioware is not in a place where they can arrogantly deny the fanbase Shepard.
I don't normally click this sort of content, but I knew xenonaut commander Phrosphor wouldn't waste time insisting that some 12-pixel blob is a Reaper. I too hope for playable aliens. I've been told many times after mentioning this that Mass Effect is about humanity (something Bioware themselves have said), but I disagree. The story arc of humanity finding its place in the galaxy is over and has been since ME1; humanity went into ME3 in the same political situation as the turians. Just as long as it gives more freedom, not less; if there is to be only one playable species, it should be human. The idea of the main character as an investigator has given me a new thought about a story possibility. I'll just put on my logical leaping shoes. Main character wears a trenchcoat like a noir investigator. Investigators find things. Liara went to some backwater frozen hellhole to dig up a piece of armor that is Shepard's signature. The Investigator and Liara are looking for Shepard together. They need to find Shepard because there's a crisis for which Shepard would be helpful, but Shepard has been MIA since ME3. They find only dusty bones because Shepard wouldn't run off and become a hermit with the galaxy at stake (unlike a certain jedi) and realize they need to save the galaxy themselves. So begins the second act.
Ashley, could have the requirement to be a n7, but hard to tell from the apparence, seem to lack some form, for a female character. Hope they do a better job whit the facial animation, than andromeda... A clone of sheppard's not to dismiss through.
I love ME but I already know this is gonna flop or at least it's not gonna be the same. Sure people will be fapping about the game when it comes out, they will defend it to the dead on reddit but when the waters calm down we all going to agree that resurrecting the main character is not a good idea. I'm a Buffy fan too, we all know how bad it was to bring Buffy back it destroyed absolutely the character and not only Buffy but all the scooby band too... it is better to let the dead stay dead.
EA will do what EA does. Play it safe. We will only able to play as a human. Not a male or female human but an androgynous one like in the trailer. They will try to make the game accessible and appeal to everyone to attract new players to come into the Mass Effect universe. At the same time making it appeal to no one. Same schtick they always do. Inb4 EA make this a "games as a service" game like Anthem. I hope I'm wrong...

Sure people will be fapping about the game when it comes out, they will defend it to the dead on reddit but when the waters calm down we all going to agree that resurrecting the main character is not a good idea. I'm a Buffy fan too, we all know how bad it was to bring Buffy back it destroyed absolutely the character and not only Buffy but all the scooby band too... it is better to let the dead stay dead.
EA will do what EA does. Play it safe. We will only able to play as a human. Not a male or female human but an androgynous one like in the trailer. They will try to make the game accessible and appeal to everyone to attract new players to come into the Mass Effect universe. At the same time making it appeal to no one. Same schtick they always do. Inb4 EA make this a "games as a service" game like Anthem. I hope I'm wrong...
