I was on the first cruise on the Regal Princess out of Galveston. We had an absolute blast. The buffet was excellent both in terms of quality and selection. The MDR was very good with professional and very good service. The entertainment throughout the ship was good and we really liked the enrichment talks. These Galveston cruises are real values.

You mentioned so many reasons as to why Princess is my favorite cruise line. The age demographic is a good mix with people still looking to have fun without being too rambunctious. The crowd also consist of many traditional cruisers that adhere to a certain standard of decorum which I find so much nicer than some other lines. Everyone fits in!
Princess delivers great food and service. I can't wait to sail again. New Years 2024 to 2025 so I have a loooong wait!

We will be on this ship November 17 2024 out of Galveston! It's our first time on this ship. Our past cruises were on Carnival. We are in our 60's now and this year I think its time to do away with the rollar coaster, sky chair, and bungee rope attractions. I came home so sore from our last cruise. Amusement wise I was COMPLETELY satisfied but RELAXATION wise I was not 😂. I felt like I worked all week 😂. Now I'm retired and decided to find a ship without all those "Temptation" rides and plan on relaxing! Hopefully 😂.

Very interesting review. We were on the cruise with you (Riviera Deck 14 midship). This was our 6th cruise with Princess and my wife and I have decided that we will be skipping Princess for at least two years. We found the cruise WAY under standard for Princess. The buffet was fine, except for closing sections early and removing those food selections they had available. Many times we went at 1:30 for lunch, and the items we were looking for (and were available at 12:45) were taken away at 1:00 for "dinner set up." We too were in the Allegro and found the food VERY disappointing. Most of the people dining with us sent multiple items back, and the wait staff really didn't care to ask why it wasn't eaten...including the Maitre 'd. Three of us ordered the Blue Cheese Wedge Salad on night, and all three of us got different dressings, NONE of which were Blue Cheese. The waiters had no idea what were complaining about. And for a Caribbean cruise, there was no island, or Caribbean, feeling to the sailing at all. Several times we happened to end up in a lounge where Tyrone was playing the steel drum. He has a wonderful selection of Glen Campbell songs, but NOTHING that made us feel we were in the Caribbean.

Thanks for sharing this! I'm sorry that your experience was subpar. We've found we LOVE the older Princess ships and tend to have a more traditional Princess experience on those. May I ask, why two years to skip? What do you think will happen in that timeframe?

We were talking with another couple at dinner in the Crown Grill one evening when they mentioned their disappointment in both the quality and preparation of the food in the MDR. They were in the Concerto Dining Room. The Maitre 'd in the Crown Grill over heard us and asked us about our experiences in the MDRs. He said that the problem Princess is having currently is that all their provisioning suppliers for the MDRs went out of business during COVID and they are having a VERY hard time in sourcing out new ones. The Crown Grill and Sabatini's are provisioned differently, and their needs are far smaller than for all the MDRs. He said they hope to have it all rectified in a year or two. The being said......good friends of ours emailed us last night they they want to take their first cruise in 2024 and asked if we'd go with them. They want Alaska (I would honestly do an Alaska cruise EVERY year), and the wife absolutely wants to go on Princess! so I guess we will be on them earlier. Our friendship is worth a lot more than a few bad meals.@@CruiseTipsTV

On the Majestic Princess, I had to go downstairs and let them check my luggage. They thought I had a power board and it was my flat iron. I'm surprised you were able to get through with all the surge plugs. They also sent out a notice stating no saving seats and they will be watching to make sure this is carried out. We went from LA all the way to Sydney and were in a Cyclone close to Auckland, New Zealand great cruise. .

We are on the Regal Princess now. Probably our 17th cruise, but first on Princess. So far, not impressed. Cabin dirty, bed not configured correctly, both apps (old and new) only sporadically working, dinning reservations confirmed on app not showing at the Concerto dinning room, etc…. When calling trying to correct issues, I was hung up on with no greeting twice, and when finally reaching someone was told do you realize I have 19 cabins to attend to? I realize these are first world problems, but when you get a vacation once a year and save for it, you should have a good experience. Perhaps things will improve over the next 6 days.

If you’re new to Princess, Mini suites on Princess are “normal” cabins in that they don’t have suite perks. However they have separate seating areas, bathtubs, walk in closets, couches two TV’s and extra square footage- none of those things are found in standard balconies on Princess.

Interesting. Just came back from a cruise on the Regal Princess last month for a UK cruise just before her repositioning and I must say I wasn't very impressed. The food was.. fine, definitely NOT above average, IMHO. I do agree that the crowds usually weren't too bad at the buffet and a decent variety, but still plenty of things that were pretty mediocre. My morning suggestion is the omlet station, but they usually only have the one so it does get busy.
On passenger mix my friend, who was also with us with his wife and we're in our mid-50s, definitely commented that it skewed older (at least on our cruise) so not many our age or younger, mostly at least 60s and older, not a lot of entertainment (some was fine some, like one of the comedians, not so much) and almost no separate places to go do things like listen to different live music and the like. The bigger problem, I think, was just the service. It was usually quite slow at some of the bars and even in the main dining room. To be clear I'm not at all averse to taking time for dinner service (I spent a lot of time in Italy for folks that know how Italians tend to dine) but initial service can be slow, and even with reservations we stood in a line to wait to be seated while right next to us was a line for anytime dining that actually would seat faster than those with reservations. Not a great look, if you ask me. Very different experience, it sounds like, from what you guys had.
Oh, and for tea we couldn't get unsweet tea. In fact the sweet tea apparently isn't even brewed tea at all, it tasted like the powdered stuff with way too much artificial lemon flavor in it. Not pleasant at all.

Just returned from a Regal Galveston cruise. A beautiful ship, but the main dining room experience was pretty bad - lackadaisical staff, limited choices, and small portions. After using the Concerto room for our first dinner and breakfast, we went to the Horizon buffet for the remainder of the cruise. We also found that the Horizon’s choices, while there were a lot of them, many were a bit too “exotic”. Not only that, it was hard to see them because of poor lighting and hard-to-read signs.

Sorry to disagree. We had a very disappointing experience. Leaving Galveston port was terrible, had everyone loading at the same time and arrived at 11:15 on the ship at 1pm. People running into everyone, no direction. Ordered gifts before sailing, never arrived. There is no organization on leaving ship in port, 2 hour lines, waiters rolling their eyes at individuals taking too long to figure menu out (considering the average age on the ship).
Received an email stating that since things went so wrong, we would receive $75 credit per person in my onboard account, NEVER happened. It is my conclusion that as a large corporation, they have no customer service, make statements, and don't follow through. Their words mean zero. It is also my right to choose whom I do business with, and it won't be Princess....

@expediterguy16 We are in our early 60's and sailed on the Carnival Vista the last several years but they moved that ship out of Galveston and replaced it with this ship. It seems to me this ship is mainly for slow pace elderly people who don't need any excitement. For people who just want to relax all the time which is totally different from the Carnival Vista. The Vista is so packed with entertainment that I caught myself making a schedule to go enjoy the events that were going on all over the ship. Maybe this is God's sign for me to act my age 😂..May I ask what it was that you disliked about this ship so I can take that into consideration before I choose what ship I want to go on next?
