- In a dramatic turn of events, the military government in Niger has thrown French energy giant Orano into turmoil by slashing its uranium supplies. This abrupt decision has left Orano reeling, ending the first half of 2024 with a staggering loss of over €133 million, primarily attributed to challenges in its mining activities in Niger. Adding to the tension, a recent power outage in Paris during the World Olympics has highlighted the fragility of France's energy grid as state energy agencies grapple with the reduced uranium supply from Niger.
